McClatchy reports, “Only weeks before last year’s pivotal midterm elections, the White House urged the Justice Department to pursue voter-fraud allegations against Democrats in three battleground states, a high-ranking Justice official has told congressional investigators.”
In two instances in October 2006, President Bush’s political adviser, Karl Rove, or his deputies passed the allegations on to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales’ then-chief of staff, Kyle Sampson.
Sampson tapped Gonzales aide Matthew Friedrich, who’d just left his post as chief of staff of the criminal division. In the first case, Friedrich agreed to find out whether Justice officials knew of “rampant” voter fraud or “lax” enforcement in parts of New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, and report back.
But Friedrich declined to pursue a related matter from Wisconsin, he told congressional investigators, because an inquiry so close to an election could inappropriately sway voting results. Friedrich decided not to pass the matter on to the criminal division for investigation, even though Sampson gave him a 30-page report prepared by Republican activists that made claims of voting fraud.
While it was known that Rove and the White House had complained about prosecutors not aggressively investigating voter fraud, Friedrich’s testimony suggests that the Justice Department itself was under pressure to open voter fraud cases despite a department policy that discourages such action so close to an election.

Everyone seems to know right wrong.
May 10th, 2007 at 10:42 pmExcept for Rove and the Bushites.
For the latest news, document dumps, email archives, hearing transcripts and other essential materials in the firings of U.S. attorneys, see:
May 10th, 2007 at 10:43 pm“The U.S. Attorney Scandal Documents.”
‘Rove’ is a name that comes up way too often…in everything shady. There was a Bush with enough integrity to fire Rove from his political team.
May 10th, 2007 at 10:44 pm“Voter Fraud” is neocon/Rove-speak for keeping people of color from voting because they vote for Democrats. Rove can’t keep everyone from voting.

Every day brings more. No wonder Rove felt so good about “the math”, and felt confident that the Republicans would pull ahead in key congressional districts days before the election. This cabal of inept liers, thought that this would stay a secret? Republicans have to lie, cheat, and steal elections to win. How pathetic!
May 10th, 2007 at 10:55 pmSomeone should have been kind and told Rove they were going to get their butts kicked Nov. 6th, That way he might not have tried to sqeeze every possible vote out to try and stay afloat, and might not have put his invitingly fat butt in the pen all for nothing….

May 10th, 2007 at 11:07 pmFWIW, Rove learned his “democracy” in his college days…. See Moore and Slater’s “Bush’s Brain” for the sordid details.

May 10th, 2007 at 11:08 pmThe Italian to English translation of “Rove” is “Stoppino”(really).
The English to Satanic translation of “Karl” is “Satan’s”
The English to Satanic translation of “Rove” is “Daddy”
He was the 666,000,000,000 asshole Republican to lie since birth.
His full name is: Karl “Christian” Rove, born December 25, 1950.
If you add up all the characters in his name: 1-19-19-8-15-12-5, it spells ASSHOLE.
Don’t forget Karl “Christian” Rove, born December 25, 1950…Christian….Dec 25….the Antichrist or Anti-christ (literally: anti, opposite; christ, messiah) has come to mean a person, image of a person, or other entity that is the embodiment of evil.
Sound familiar? It’s our good friend Karl!

May 10th, 2007 at 11:24 pmKKKarl Rove is a college drop out who was constantly beaten up by girls when he was a little boy.
All crime roads lead to this worthless individual. The Bush Crime Family boss.
May 10th, 2007 at 11:26 pmthis is Rove’s source for “THE MATH” as he whined to NPR prior to the election.

May 10th, 2007 at 11:29 pmhey folks, i’ve had the easy-view jpg-images
of the friedrich redacted transcript on my
site since early evening. . .
“. . .as the house judiciary committee hearing
May 10th, 2007 at 11:58 pmwound-down this afternoon, chairman john
conyer’s office released a three-page, re-
dacted, transcript of criminal division
department of justice attorney matthew w.
friedrich’s sworn statements. . . they were
mentioned by the chairman, to mr. gonzales,
rather pointedly this morning (video coming
very soon on that, too), and i think, these are the
first under-oath, written bits-o’-evidence from
any attorney — inside the gonzales depart-
ment of justice, mind you — which directly
assert that karl rove was behind the firing
of david iglesias in new mexico. . .
Karl Rove has his dirty hands on everything nasty in Washington, DC.
May 11th, 2007 at 12:09 amI do not believe Rove totally corrupt. In the sea of sharks that he swims, he’s a chump.
May 11th, 2007 at 12:46 amcheck out Greg Palast’s book, Armed Madhouse, He lays out exactly how Rove and co. steal elections. Using claims of voter fraud and purging the voter rolls of the eligible, and not counting upwards of possible 100,000 votes nationwide. That include provisional ballots, overseas ballots, absentee ballots… And the use of caging lists.
It is one of the most disturbing books I have read recently.
This is worth the 15 bucks to get yourself armed with the knowledge of how it is going to go down in 08.
May 11th, 2007 at 12:48 amCORRECTION
I had to look it up since I had read that chapter a few days ago, and 100,000 sounded low.
here are the spoilage numbers from the book:
Official number reported to the federal gov’t Election’s Assistance Commission is: 1,855,827 ballots cast not counted.
Corrected for underreporting by embarrassed states, cities and counties, the number goes up to 3,006,380 votes cast but not counted.
This is public knowledge- “on a U.S. Census Bureau announcement 7 months after the election—in a footnote to the report on voter turnout. the Census tabulation of voters “differs,” it reads, from ballots tallied by the Clerk of the House of Representatives for the 2004 presidential race by 3.4 million votes.”
This is also not including the millions that prevented from voting in the first place.
This book is chock full of nuggets that will make your blood boil.
May 11th, 2007 at 1:07 amthe 100,000 was Ohio alone.
May 11th, 2007 at 1:08 amYou know day after day this is just getting more and more insane, can anyone really list all the investigations, indictments, etc. of these criminals….it is really troubling….and very sick, really. Makes me really wonder if I may have to move to a civilized county, this one is soooooo off track, seems to be regressive. Hope the dems can bring sanity back to this county, they repulian mafia sure isn’t doing it.
Hating the Repukian Mafia daily
May 11th, 2007 at 1:12 amPalast acquired a copy of a “caging list” from the 04 election, that was sent to a wrong email address— one of the cc’d individuals happens to be none other Mr. Tim Griffin. Sound familiar? Gee now he is a U.S. Atty looking for Voter Fraud by the “opposition”— any way to negate more votes but make it look legal by using the supposed impartial Justice Dept.
Oh, and Griffin’s title when he received the emailed caging list: Research Director and Communications Director, Republican National Committee.
Now don’t you think it’s time we got all those rnc.com emails to and from Rove? or gwb.com emails?
these f#ckers are so GD corrupt. They’ll say and do anything to stay in power.
May 11th, 2007 at 1:16 amslighty off topic, but everyone should subscribe to David Michael Green’s The Regressive Antidote. His latest:

May 11th, 2007 at 2:11 amRove was executive director of the College Republicans 1972-73 and was hired by Nixon’s dirty trickster Donald Segretti. Segretti’s men did such things as steal letterheads from Democratic headquarters and print slander on Ed Muskie which sabotaged his campaign.
May 11th, 2007 at 2:18 amBased on the exit polls (which had been accurate within 0.2 %), Voter News Service estimated that Gore won Florida by 7.0% or over 300,000 votes.
That’s forgetting about the 175,000 votes that were not counted or the 57,000 non-felons kicked off the rolls as felons. Both of these two groups were heavily pro-Gore.
May 11th, 2007 at 2:24 amre #24
Because of this Voter News Service was later in 2002 and 2004 not allowed to report exit polls.
May 11th, 2007 at 2:27 amSo THAT’S how you get a “mandate”!
May 11th, 2007 at 6:24 amWouldn’t it be a hoot to see Rove acting out, acting all physical and threatening?
ooooooooohhhh
May 11th, 2007 at 7:11 amAnother fault of the dirtiest player.
May 11th, 2007 at 8:13 am“McClatchy reports,…..”
What is it with these McClatchy guys. Every new damning r elevation about the Bushies seems to be coming from them. They seem to be the only news service that is actually doing their job. Investigating and then reporting. Kudos to them.
May 11th, 2007 at 9:31 am“Every day brings more. No wonder Rove felt so good about “the mathâ€, and felt confident that the Republicans would pull ahead in key congressional districts days before the election.”
The problem was that they underestimated their cheating margin. They set it at 4% and the Democrats and Independents voted at 6%. I guess next time they will set their bar at 6%. But I suspect even that will be too low. I suspect the next election is going to be a Republic blood bath. Note to the Democrats…. It’s time to take up voting as an issue. If we wait too much longer, they will have their cheat in place and it will be harder to combat. I suggest that the first thing the Democrats should do is to outlaw electronic voting unless the voting machine is under total control of the election officials including have full disclosure of source code. One of my favorite talk show hosts, Thom Hartmann says that the minute we turn over our voting to private companies, we have done serious damage to democracy.
May 11th, 2007 at 9:35 amRove, the GOP and the neocons are responsible for wide-spread voter fraud - call them on it.
Tim Griffin, Rove’s friend, the USA of Arkansas admitted to voter suppression of 70,000 blacks, soldiers and students - go after him.
May 11th, 2007 at 10:28 amI found it curious how all those Republicans kept trying to change the subject during the hearing. If you don’t have a serious question pertaining directly to the inquiry, keep your G-damned mouth shut and let the grown-ups ask the questions! They sure didn’t seem to mind the distraction to the White House during several never-ending investigations during the Clinton Administration. They seemed to be going on for the duration of his presidency (White Water, Monica etal). I don’t recall Executive Privilege being invoked even once. Matter of fact I believe Clinton himself asked for a special prosecutor to investigate Whitewater and allowed any and all of his people to testify ad nauseum. After six years of relentless investigating, the only thing they could pin on him was that he got his pp licked. We are now investigating what could very possibly be a deep-rooted Federally offensive attempt to politicize the Justice Dept, US Attorneys and who knows what else! DO NOT GIVE IN TO THESE GOP CHEERLEADERS! CALL A LIAR A LIAR AND LET’S START IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS ASAP! IF THESE RIGHT WING LAWMAKERS/BREAKERS WON”T BACK IT UP AT LEAST THEY’LL BE SEEN FOR WHAT THEY ARE…BUSH MOUTHPIECES!
May 11th, 2007 at 11:44 amOK, Karl Rove is officially listed as the President’s Political Adviser.
Why does he have an office in the WH?
WHO pays his salary as the Political Adviser?
If he is being paid by taxpayer dollars it shouldn’t be happening.
May 11th, 2007 at 12:58 pmI’d prefer my tax dollars to go to…
…hiring Putin and the KGB…
…to feed Rove some of that…
…radioactive-rich cuisine…
