VA exaggerated success of medical system.

“The Department of Veterans Affairs has habitually exaggerated the record of its medical system, inflating its achievements in ways that make it appear more successful than it is,” reports McClatchy. Among the many distortions:

– The agency has touted how quickly veterans get in for appointments, but its own inspector general found that scheduling records have been manipulated repeatedly.

– The VA boasted that its customer service ratings are 10 points higher than those of private-sector hospitals, but the survey it cited shows a far smaller gap.

– Top officials repeatedly have said that a pivotal health-quality study ranked the agency’s health care “higher than any other health-care system in this country.” However, the study they cited wasn’t designed to do that.

Why does the VA hate our troops?

  2. Jay Randal says:

VA system under the Bush Regime gives lousy health care to veterans.

    Of course they have.
They, like the rest of the Bushco cronies are habitual LIARS.

    Socialized medicine.

    You mean they LIED?

    Imagine that….

Time for National Heath – like the civilized world (I used to say ‘the rest of the civilized world’ but the US no longer belongs in that club.) And we still have 20+ months of the idiot savages running and ruining our country. Some days I think I can’t last that long.

“Socialized medicine” ? Kind of…. This article rightlfully criticizes the VA for overselling itself but that doesn’t mean that they don’t provide good service. I work in the medical field and have a decent sense of the range of quality of services and from what I’ve seen, the VA does a very good job. Of course it can do better but, I think if one were to look at how flat their budget has been vs the kind of improvements they’ve made in the last 15 years , it would help to put the whole thing into perspective. I’m guessing that if all health care systems in this country were scrutinized to this degree, we’d see far worse…

Please don’t confuse “the VA” with whoever is in office at the time. Asking “Why does the VA hate our troops?” is a cheap and ignorant shot.

Why don’t you google who has the best health care in the world?

Test at 11, so have your answer with valid multiple links to back it up.

    Wimp!

I wonder whether the whole point of this article is to stop people from even thinking of a single payer healthcare. Patrick1’s response: “socialized medicine”, with its subtext: “very bad”, would be a common response to reading something like that, especially on the other side of the politicalspectrum. And not many are likely to delve too deeply into the reasons (ie that VA, like all other federally run institutions has — over tthe past 6 years — been slowly starved of funding and deliberaetly degraded by placing wrong people in charge)

Having lived off the economy in Germany, I would say that the medical system in our dear US of A is still in the Stone Age by comparison.
When a long-term prescription was of the order, the doctor would first try it a week at a time, tracking its effects, before opening the dike. This did not merely include blood tests, but also physical and mental evaluation. Reviews were held once every six months. after that. Out of pocket costs were about $5 in 1980’s bucks – $15, today (Boy, has the dollar slid since 2001!).

The V.A. has been good to me. They are very careful and they won’t destroy you financially.
