White House vets civil liberties report.

The White House “played an active role in vetting a new report to Congress” from the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, which Congress established in 2004, to ensure that “civil liberties were not trampled by aggressive anti-terrorism programs.”

At least Bush has not gone as far as Lincoln or FDR (yet ; )

  2. Jake says:

You know, civil “liberties” such as arresting lawmakers or internment camps for Japanese Americans again?

Please don’t try and compare Bush and his farce in Iraq to any of our great presidents who led during a time of actual struggle, because it is wrong. The Civil War and WWII can be argued to be existential struggles, i.e. the struggle to maintain existence. This current boondoggle is nothing of the sort, though they would like to define it in that way. Actually, we aren’t even legally at war.
Also, in those struggles the entire nation was mobilized to the effort. And what has been done for this farce? We’ve been told to go about our lives, so there is absolutely no comparison that can be made.

aw, c’mon, guys! jake is just thinking that, sometime in the future, say in 10 YEARS or so, _if_ he gets outta Mom’s basement and gets out into the real world, he’d like to get in on some of that Helliburton action- buy a share or two of that stock-

“this is a good lil’ ole war, good fer bidness (TM)

  6. Rick says:

So like Lincoln’s and FDR’s executive orders, these aggressive anti-terrorism programs are only temporary, right? These aren’t permanent changes to law enforcement, correct?

I mean, we’re not going to turn into a country where you’re guilty until proven innocent, are we?

We shouldn’t expect the federal government to tell us “As long as you are a loyal citizen, by our standards, you have nothing to fear”, right?

  7. liz says:

Getting damn close to 1930’s Germany and Italy here in the complacent and “christian” USA under this crew. In some cases, we are already worse. Unbelievable. 9-11! 9-11!
