These terms need nailing down. If there’s one thing anyone should have learned after more than six years of Bush-Cheney and Republican rule, it’s that words mean very different things to them than they do to everybody else.

Democrats aren’t stupid people. They know Bush has snookered them at every turn, so why are they letting these very vaguely and loosely defined ‘understandings’ get reported, to take root in the people’s minds? “General Petreus will report back in (first it was) the middle of summer (and now it seems the middle of summer means) September/October.” That’s when any further real discussion about Iraq has been put off to now. “And if there’s improvement….” What’s improvement? If five U.S. troops paint a school in one of the heavily reinforced zones, that’s going to be spun by Bush as improvement. Never mind that for children to attend that school, hundreds of U.S. troops have to surround the perimeter of it the whole time school is in.

With Hillary wanting to keep a residual military force in Iraq (70,000 troops), I don’t see either party desirous of ending this farce in Iraq. Apparently Democrats support the oil law being pushed on the Iraqis, and want the multinational oil corporations in there. I don’t see the Democrats’ commitment to leaving Iraq. After all, if the war is ended before the 08 elections, what are Democrats going to run on?
