Calvert Caught In The Act With Prostitute, Lied, Attempted To Run From Police

calvert8972.JPGRep. Ken Calvert (R-CA), recently appointed by House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) to the House Appropriations Committee, has a history of ethics violations that is stirring up battle cries even from his own conservative base. His ethics violations also extend into attempts to dodge the law and lie to the public about his behavior.

In 1993, Calvert was caught by police with a prostitute in a parked car in California. Subsequently, Calvert repeatedly attempted to cover up the incident for nearly a year, publicly denying that it ever occurred.

But a year later, a court order forced the release of the police report, which revealed how Calvert was clearly caught in the act and attempted to run from the police. From the police report:

I observed a male subject in the driver seat…As I made my way to the driver door, a female immediately sat up straight in the front passenger seat. It appeared as if her head was originally laying in the driver’s lap. … I noticed that the male subject was placing his penis into his unzipped dress slacks, and was trying to hide it with his untucked dress shirt.

As the male subject covered up crotch area with his left hand and shirt, he started his vehicle and placed it into drive and proceeded to leave. I ordered him three times to turn off the vehicle, and he finally stopped and complied…The male identified himself as Kenneth Stanton Calvert.

That wasn’t all Calvert tried to cover up. “We’re just talking, that’s all. Nothing else,” he nervously explained to the police as he “continued to cover his unzipped pants with his hand.”

Calvert has since held onto his Congressional seat but only through smear tactics. Representing a conservative district, he put out “campaign literature implying that his Democratic opponent was gay” after the prostitution incident and was subsequently re-elected.

Hence the word “reelected.” The people reelected him. It was their decision and their vote. Heck, Mr. Clinton was bangin’ in the OVAL OFFICE and got to keep his big job because of democratic deniers in the senate, didn’t he? TP shouldn’t act as if there’s nothing to hide.

The stories of double standards, hypocrisy, and lies are neverending.
Yet, not do they continue to be elected, but their leaders appoint them to committees. Apparently the repugs, like Boehner, are unable to see moral and ethics issues among their own kind because it’s not unusual or unfamiliar to them.

  11. CompTROLLER V-1 says:

The most important question: has he cleaned up his act since? If so, why should CompTROLLER V-1 not be a system to forgive?

Clinton was dragged and impeached for saying ‘I did not have sex with that woman’.

    Good morning, troll.

You’ve made a conclusion not based upon the evidence. Did the voters even know about this? After all, he was able to suppress the evidence for a year.

Now, assuming you’re correct, and his Republican voters decided to forgive him after covering it up for a year, wouldn’t that make Republican voters just a bit hypocritical? After all, in a similar circumstance, they called for the impeachment of a Democratic President.

Or is it just the fact that as long as a Republican opposes abortion and gay marriage, s/he will get Republican votes, no matter what.

Do you realize that the Republican Party stands for just those two issues? As far as tax breaks go, those really only go to the very wealthy. How long did the averge person’s $100/year tax break go to pay for the rising cost of a tank of gas?

Fiscal responsibility? Not with Republicans in charge.

Smaller Government? Not under Republican rule.

Civil liberties? Forget it. Your life can be scrutinized with or without a warrant. You can be arrested and thrown in jail for years without charges ever being filed.

Keeping America safe? Are you kidding? Republicans were behind 9/11.

Republicans stand for out of control spending, torture, destroying international relations, endless war, governmental interference in your private life, tax breaks for the wealthy, reduced social services for working citizens, neglect of the lower classes, etc., etc., etc.

A Republican Government is one that is of the rich, by the rich, and for the rich. The rest who vote Republican are just being manipulated and used.

At least the woman in the above story knew what she was swallowing.

I’m not a holistic republican supporter. Mr. Calvert is still in office, isn’t he? You’ve stated he was able to suppress the evidence for one year. When did this happen, 1993? So that means he couldn’t have suppressed the incident from 1993-present, while being elected for several subsequest terms. He had just a one-year grace. The man was never convicted, by the way, so the standard of “innocent until proven guilty” is fully applicable here. Clinton was never charged, so he kept the title of President of the United States. Lets be fair to at least some degree.

I don’t know what point you think you are making. Clinton admitted to some philandering, and many voters were willing to look past it. The Lewinski case supposedly wasn’t about an affair between consenting adults, it was about Clinton lying about it. Clinton was impeached by Republicans for the lying, not the affair.

Democrats are willing to forgive some personal transgressions. There is nothing hypocritical about it. Republicans on the other hand are outrageous hypocrites of the worst kind: moralizing, self-righteous, and damning of behaviors they themselves widely engage in.

Any Republican who complains about members of their own party getting hoisted on their own petard is just a big crybaby.

System Refresher: Mr. Clinton was impeached for lying, but those democratic senators made it political in acquitting him, though their was good evidence that he indeed lied for a conviction. If it were a civil/criminal case, he would have been held liable/found guilty.

Finally: CompTROLLER V-1 is programmed to opine that even if Clinton had been convicted by the Senate, the system wouldn’t have agreed with him being removed from office. The system didn’t even support impeachment, just a reprimand. You have a case – the Republicans overstayed their visit throughout the ordeal.

    Comment by CompTROLLER V-1 — May 12, 2007 @ 10:49 am

Do you know that for a fact? Are you privy to intelligence on “black ops” missions?

New clues have surfaced in the case of the bombing of the Golden Mosque which suggests that the claims of the Bush administration are false. An article by Marc Santora, (“One Year Later, Golden Mosque still in Ruins”, New York Times) provides eyewitness testimony of what really took place one year ago:

“A caretaker at the shrine described what happened on the day of the attack, insisting on anonymity because he was afraid that talking to an American could get him killed. The general outline of his account was confirmed by American and Iraqi officials.

The night before the explosion, he said, just before the 8 p.m. curfew on Feb. 21, 2006, on the Western calendar, men dressed in commando uniforms like those issued by the Interior Ministry entered the shrine.

The caretaker said he had been beaten, tied up and locked in a room.

Throughout the night, he said, he could hear the sound of drilling as the attackers positioned the explosives, apparently in such a way as to inflict maximum damage on the dome”.(NY Times)

Clearly, if the men were men dressed in “commando uniforms like those issued by the Interior Ministry”, then the logical place to begin an investigation would be the Interior Ministry. But there’s never been an investigation and the caretaker has never been asked to testify about what he saw on the night of the bombing. However, if he is telling the truth, we cannot exclude the possibility that paramilitary contractors (mercenaries) or special-ops (intelligence) agents working out of the Interior Ministry may have destroyed the mosque to create the appearance of a nascent civil war.

    http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article17078.htm

It is quite possible America fomented the Iraq civil war. After all, the insurgency that sprang up following the destruction of the shrine has provided Bush with the excuse to stay in Iraq, increasing the profits of the Defense Industry tremendously, while putting pressure on the Iraqi government to sign away their oil industry to American Corporations.

Yes, it is quite possible U.S. forces are planting bombs in mosques.

It’s strange and anachronistic that our laws prohibit this kind of thing when it’s pretty widely acknowleged that sex is a genuine human need.

There are lots of other behaviors that might offend some people and yet we tolerate them anyway because people being offended by something is not a reason to ban it. What is the difference after all between this and someone meeting someone in a bar and taking them home for the night?

The problem in this incident is that the GOP claims to be some sort of party of morals and family values and yet time and again their members turn out to be involved in things like this while condemning them publicly.

  90. Corky Frausto says:

Should have said he was getting a massage. That’s all just a massage.

  91. Peter says:

I’m completely shocked by this immoral behavior, said Republican congressman John Boner.

  92. clichy says:

As much as I hate these people I don’t see the relevance of trumpeting a story that’s 14 years old…I mean c’mon.

The way this is splashed across Buzzflash you’d think it happened yesterday.

Find something a little more topical and recent and I’ll get outraged; to me this is just typical GOP hypocrisy.

  93. Squeedle says:

I’ll never understand why people in the public eye do this kind of crap. They have to know eventually they’ll get caught because they are under such close scrutiny. It’s weak and selfish behavior.

  94. Housebroken says:

This guy sounds like a real dick (hanging out of his trousers).

The poor streetwalker should get combat pay for having to hummer a fillthy repug like this f**k-knuckle.

He probably made her call him “Daddy”.

  95. xenon says:

Yee-haa! Good ‘ol fashioned Republican values.

  96. Mark says:

yep, only republican voters are stupid, they elect crooks…

We get to pick the lesser or two evils, not a good person versus a bad one… anyone that thinks one party is so much better than the other is the real idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
