Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) announced today that he will bring the Feingold-Reid Iraq legislation to a vote as early as this week. Watch it:
“The bill stipulates that George W. Bush must begin withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq within 120 days of the bill’s passage and that ‘no funds appropriated or otherwise made available under any provision of law may be obligated or expended to continue the deployment in Iraq of members of the United States Armed Forces after March 31, 2008.’” The AP has more.
UPDATE: Reid’s full floor statement is HERE.
Vote Yes!!!

This is not the way to fight Osama. We need to get out of Iraq and re-group. Our military needs rebuilding. We need better tactics.
You don’t use the military to get terrorists. Law enforcement works better.

May 14th, 2007 at 6:03 pmI think it would be a mistake to just leave Iraq without enforcing a plan and some measures that would ensure that Iraq does not implode. Our government really needs to partner with world leaders to devise an economic plan to make sure what happened in Afghanistan does not happen in Iraq. The only answer to the Iraqi and Middle-eastern problems is an economic one where Iraq can be rebuilt and thrive in the future. The recent wave of protests and escalating attacks proves that what we are doing is not working so there needs to be an alternative that is economic rather than violent.
According to the Borgen Project, $340 billion has already been spent in Iraq and we have a $522 billion military budget. What has resulted from that money? The money would be better spent on plans such as the UN Millennium Development Goals to end global poverty. Just $19 billion annually can end starvation and malnutrition. Issues such as poverty foster a lot of the tensions that exist in the world today. As leaders in this world, we really need to get behind peaceful growth rather than war.

May 14th, 2007 at 6:09 pmLaw enforcement worked just fine in the 1990s. It was when the president and his secretary of state and secretary of defense and the rest of the cabal ignored the Aug 6, 2001 PDB that this country fell into the trap we are in right now. Then the NeoCons used that moment to launch their attack on the entire middle east.
It is a republican failure that we haven’t brought al Qaeda to task.
It is nto the democrat sfault that you people have your heads screwed on backwards and can’t see anything logically.

Hmmm. I guess I would then expect YOU to get into a situation where you can help keep us safe, right? I am presuming you are writing these words in Iraq or Afghanistan, right? Your not one of those chickenhawks who continually proclaim yourself a warrior, but you never get into the fight. Why is that patrick? No snark, just a question: Why are you here safe and sound and not getting your butt to where the USA needs it the most? Maybe you have a disability – COWARD, maybe you have mental issues (whoops, sorry about that), maybe you just like to sit and yell at loyal, patriotic Americans. Or maybe you don’t know what the heck you are talking about!

The Democrats have no real legislation to pass. Instead they insist on passing veto bait to pretend they are doing something.

Yeah, I see your point, but I think the effort to show that there is a different and determined approach to the Iraq situation is important. Bush’s vetoes just further illustrate his stubbornness and failure to face reality, a character trait that appeals to fewer and fewer Americans with each passing day. And the more we get the alternative message out in sane and concrete terms before the American people, the more we’ll find people changing their minds, if reluctantly. Even die-hard Bush supporters have grown weary of Bush and this fiasco, and I believe 28% can go even lower. Yes, Bush will veto and it will be sustained, but let’s continue to push the message as the only sane option, and get it on the record that there were voices calling for an end to this debacle and they were coming from the left. It’s far too late, but the tide is shifting, I think.

Dear Mr. Insane Lunatic, Master of Strawmen,
Our buildings were not knocked down by Iraq. Your failed policy has only generated more hate and more “Islamo Fascists” in places where they didn’t exist before. Your policy is a disaster and the worst foreign policy blunder this country has ever seen, all while pissing all over our Constitution.
You are a disgrace to the United States.
Our great military has shown that when we have a clear threat to America, they can attack and destroy the threat – this is what was happening in Afghanistan until you took your eyes off the prize and let the “evildoers” get away, while you undertook a campaign to create a whole new generation of “evildoers”. You are by far the worst possible combination of religious fanatics, megalogmaniacal freaks, and f*cktard idiots who have ever run this country.
You are a disgrace to all humanity, and your days are numbered.
Slink under your rock while you have a chance, because you and your cohorts are going down, and like a snake we will step on your neck and never let you up again.
We are being patient in the hopes that it still means something to be an American, and that our political system will allow the vast majority of this nation to shut you down in a peaceful manner, no later than the 2008 elections. We hope that we can show that we have the national maturity and institutional integrity to use our system of laws and election to eliminate this cancer from our body politic. But if you insist on destroying what remains of our beloved system, we will hunt you down and not stop until you are skull-f*cked into oblivion.
Have a good day.

Iraq had been one of the most secular states in the region, due mostly to Saddam’s rule. They didn’t attack us. We removed Saddam and, by not securing the peace because of insufficient troop strength and faulty planning, we created a political vacuum that drew in “Islamo-fascists” awaiting Saddam’s fall from power. Iran, Al Qaeda et.al., are the real beneficiaries of Bush’s inept leadership. Now, our continuing presence in Iraq is ensuring the anti-American sentiment needed to make the “Islamo-fascist” alternative the best option in the mind of the Iraqi people.
The responsibility for creating another “Islamo-fascist” state in the region rests with president Bush and his administration.
May 14th, 2007 at 7:47 pmAs does the responsibility for more attacks on American cities…
May 14th, 2007 at 7:51 pmRe: Patrick1
There were 7 buildings destroyed on 9-11 in NYC, not 2.
WTC-3, WTC-4, WTC-5, and WTC-6 were destroyed by fire.
WTC-1, WTC-2, and WTC-7 were destroyed by the explosives that turned their intact concrete into 50 micron powder in less than 15 seconds.
The picture of that 50 micron powder in the following link is the IRREFUTABLE proof of explosives, being used because there is no other way to turn an intact piece of concrete into that 50 micron powder in 15 seconds, because MILLING takes much longer and the environment of a falling WTC building was not like a MILL anyway!
h t t p : / / 9 1 1 r e s e a r c h . w t c 7 . n e t / w t c / e v i d e n c e / p h o t o s / s t r e e t s 1 . h t m l
If you can create this 50 micron fine powder without MILLING by dropping a piece of concrete and putting weight on it the sand sized particles that result, you should immediately go out and file your patent and get the billions of dollars offered to you for making expensive MILLING operations obsolete.
While you are at it you should also submit your findings to Nobel prize committe for the award that you will win for finding a way to break sand sized particles into a 50 micron fine powder in less than 15 seconds without MILLING nor EXPLOSIVES!
Imagine how much money you will save the mills that currently slowly gring wheat kernels into flour, by you simply dropping them off a tall building and dropping a heavy rock on the pieces and presto in less than 15 seconds wheat flour.
You better hurry and patent that technique before the flour mills find out!
May 14th, 2007 at 8:17 pmre: #32 After falling the link you provided, somewhat churlishly I might add by adding the spaces, I think your moniker is a practical joke.
There is nothing there indicating how the thickness of the dust; but I guess making up facts is more fun.
As for the explosives, I guess you missed the the fact that the jets were full of very highly explosive jet fuel???
What a maroon!

Your IGNORANCE of the simplest of SCIENCE concepts is amazing!
You and your post are a perfect example of why the government LIES work so well, because of the complete lack of critical thinking.
First, you think jet fuel (which is kerosine by the way), is like on the cartoons when it blows up just by striking a nearby match!
Second, you think every concrete floor of both 110 story WTC-1 and WTC-2 and WTC-7 was covered in kerosine and they all blew up into a 50 micron fine silicon powder exactly at the same instant?
Third, you think WTC-7 was hit by a plane?
Fourth, you admit that explosives were needed to to turn intact concrete into a 50 micron sized in less than 15 seconds, but you think the explosive force came from kerosine lying on a concrete floor and that force could compression fail a concrete floor?
Fifth, you think 50 micron powder is the same thing as dust from broken piece of concrete.
Sixth, you have no idea of what the compression strength of concrete is and that you can drop a slab from the 1400 foot height of a WTC tower, and it will still hit the ground with less FORCE than its COMPRESSION STRENGTH, according to Issac Newton (F = MA).
And so on…
May 15th, 2007 at 12:08 amOoo, the idiotic trolls are crawling all over this one. Hey, trolls, nobody agrees with you. You lost, get over it.
May 15th, 2007 at 2:03 amThe only way to stop terrorism is by stopping the money. Guns, bullets, bombs, those only kill and make billionaire arms dealers and defense contractors richer.
“Follow the money.” sage advise from one who helped bring down that other criminal republican, Nixon. It’s time to put the war criminal Bush out of business, and put an end to his greedy big oil co-conspirators’s record profits exceeding previous record profits by following the money and cutting it off to terrorist and suspected terrorist orgs.
By doing that we’ll reduce Laddin and his boys to the level of those rightwing wingnuts, rambo-want-to-be-s currently running around in the back woods of various states with all their plans to over throw the governement but no money to buy paint balls for their paint guns or to put their big plans into action.
Back in 71 when I was in the Navy, and George and Dick were doing all they could to avoid becoming my shipmates … I was on a working party that went into a small town in Bhrain. Small boys started throwing rocks at us. Those small rock throwing boys are now in their 40’s and they aren’t throwing rocks anymore. The hatred of us runs generations deep in that part of the world, and only reducing them to having nothing but rocks to throw again by cutting off their money will end terrorism.
As Bush as shown, bombs, guns, and bullets have only created more terrorism, not less. Follow the money!
