Gonzales’ classmates give him a failing grade.»

Several dozen of Alberto Gonzales’ classmates at Harvard Law School, Class of 1982, wrote in a letter today: “As lawyers, and as a matter of principle, we can no longer be silent about this administration’s consistent disdain for the liberties we hold dear. Your failure to stand for the rule of law, particularly when faced with a president who makes the aggrandized claim of being a unitary executive, takes this country down a dangerous path.” The letter stopped short of explicitly calling on Gonzales to step down.

The new phrase, coined by a Republican, is

    Electioneering via the Justice Department.

Frankly I think that’s putting it lightly.

I want justice. America deserves justice and it’s long overdue.

  5. stopthecons Says:

i give gonzales, and the entire bush administration a “failing grade” - utter disdain for the constitution would qualify for that, right?

It’s a good idea to remind ourselves of what the government can and cannot do - as codified in law by the Constitution and Bill of Rights. When reading these documents, and then looking at this criminal gang in D.C. - I can find very little that they do which is actually within the law!

What, exactly, was the f*cking point?

  19. Erroll Says:

“The letter stopped short of explicity calling on Gonzales to step down.” What further proof do they need that Gonzales is not the man to run the Justice Dept.? This is analogous to those in the military criticizing Bush’s handling of Iraq only until they resign from their position. Those generals need to emulate Lt. Watada by speaking out when they are in the military. The UCMJ says that they have not only a right but a duty and an obligation not to obey illegal orders, which is exactly what the preemptive invasion of Iraq was. Those in the military should speak out like their Vietnam veteran bretheren did by saying NO to the war machine.

Dude, I can’t imagine you even know what a syllogism is. And no, it doesn’t have an alcoholic content.

  24. null Says:

I don’t understand why with the corruption in the DOJ and the corruption of our voter rights dept. as evidenced by the emails Griffin sent to Greg Palast (poetic justice) Republicans aren’t standing with Democrats in true bipartisanship on this. We are all Americans, forget party affiliation, this is a crisis of such major dimensions we all need to JOIN TOGETHER and ferret out all the racist corrupt money grabbing criminals from our government. This will destroy the Republican party if they don’t get a clue NOW and stand up for what is RIGHT and separate from the Neocon agenda and stop defending this band of corporate thieves. Neocons are just as dangerous as Jihadists, they are all zealots out for their own agenda. The neocons do NOT care about America OR the Republican party! They care only about their religious agenda and forcing it down everyone’s throat in any way possible. Legality matters not to them. Repubs better wake up and reclaim their party from these facists. There are some who are up in arms over Calvert’s appointment and that is a good sign. Im tired of all the us and them attitude, this rampant corruption and bigotry hurts us all equally regardless of party. We need to join together in keeping the pressure on and getting to the bottom of the destruction of the DOJ unfolding. Anyone who has a problem with Congressional oversight and wants to “move on” is undoubtedly corrupt themselves and has something to hide. I don’t care what party affiliation, I want transparent honest government leadership and I want them to seek and find all those involved and hold them accountable.
Rove belongs in JAIL. Targeting black voters and stealing their votes is criminal.
They know they can not win fairly so they resort to rigging the vote. That is how we ended up with this atrocious President in the first place, they rigged the 2000 election and then rigged it again in 2004. They were well into their plan to rig the next election! This should outrage every American!

Comment by the republic of stupidity — May 14, 2007 @ 10:47 pm

Ya see, a syllogism is when you have: 1) a major premise, such as

    “All men are mortal”

Then, you have your: 2) minor premise

    “Socrates is a man”

With a syllogism you can determine information about the proposition in the minor premise by inference from the major premise:

If all men are mortal and Socrates is a man, then Socrates is mortal.

Or, if we want to use the ever so popular “ipso facto” we would say:

All men are mortal, Socrates is a man, ipso facto, Socrates is mortal.
