Boehner tells members to ignore Calvert campaign.

Scandal-plagued Rep. Ken Calvert (R-CA) is the target of a bipartisan campaign to pressure the House Republican Steering Committee to reverse their recent decision to place Calvert on the powerful Appropriations Committee. RedState.org reports today that House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH), who backs Calvert, is telling members to ignore the campaign:

According to House staffers, Boehner’s staff is out putting pressure on Steering Committee members to not say how they voted on Calvert.

Two different people tell me the deck is so stacked in Boehner’s favor that even if a majority of the Steering Committee voted against Calvert, he could still get on Appropriations. But, that would look terrible to have a majority vote against Calvert and him still getting on Appropriations.

So, Boehner is pressuring the Steering Committee to totally ignore us.

Of course, Boehner doesn’t care. This is the guy who was handing out checks for the tobacco lobbyist on the floor of the House during one of its sessions. Why would he think something is unethical when he is the embodiment of such actions?

  5. Namtillaku says:

More power to him, it’s just going to hurt the republicans that much more come 2008.

  6. Joefriday says:

You can just see the greatness in that man?

Boehner is a boner, again. I guess he gets a boner for Ken “Hood Hockey With Hooker” Calvert.

Did Boner cry on cue? That would make him much more credible.

  16. Delia says:

I just saw that even RedState is campaigning against Calvert. Apparently they’re sick of corrupt Republicans for some reason.

  17. david says:

Well, no wonder Bush has f*cked the DoJ. If there had been a decent AG in the DoJ, half the Republicans on the Hill would be in jail.

Has anyone noticed GOP members have the Walking Dead look? Or is it that 1000-yard stare?

Funny, it’s the troops who are really stressed out and suffering Combat Stress Reaction which leads to PTSD. And yet we see the Chickenhawks exhibiting symptoms now.

Why? The Party is imploding. The suits running for the presidential nomination all sounded defeated before the first primary. How can you be exciting about being the man to defeated by Obama/Clinton/Edwards?

The GOP is in its death throes. It’s going the way of the Whig Party. Remember them? The Whigs were the party from whose ashes the Republican Party arose. Bush & Cheney have destroyed this Party; it’s time for the rump to decide what is the meaning of conservativism & tradition & family and found a new party. Why not call it The Conservative Party.

Anyway, better pick up your GOP souvenirs. The Party’s OVER.

Redstate isn’t sick of corrupt rethugs they’re sick of corrupt rethugs getting caught. It damages their long term ability to abet the looting of our treasury and the destruction of our constitution.

  20. RUCerious says:

Yeah, don’t confuse them with the facts, the fuehrer says Calvert’s his guy.

‘06 was an awesome year for democrats…’08 is looking just as good, but I still sweat when I see these out of touch republicans making these assinine moves. How far removed from reality are they? Do they think they are invulnerable? Do they know something we don’t know? And as for the redstate rebellion…when push comes to shove, do you think any of them will back a democrat? Heck no, they’ll pinch their noses and still vote for greed, corruption, and sleeze a la Arlin Spector. Whenever some ‘news’ like this comes up, I suggest we each send an additional five dollars to a local campaign. Do something active rather than breath a sigh of relief that the other side is finally seeing the light…there… I just went to my county’s democratic website and donated five! That was easy. Your turn.
