Scandal-plagued Rep. Ken Calvert (R-CA) is the target of a bipartisan campaign to pressure the House Republican Steering Committee to reverse their recent decision to place Calvert on the powerful Appropriations Committee. RedState.org reports today that House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH), who backs Calvert, is telling members to ignore the campaign:
According to House staffers, Boehner’s staff is out putting pressure on Steering Committee members to not say how they voted on Calvert.
Two different people tell me the deck is so stacked in Boehner’s favor that even if a majority of the Steering Committee voted against Calvert, he could still get on Appropriations. But, that would look terrible to have a majority vote against Calvert and him still getting on Appropriations.
So, Boehner is pressuring the Steering Committee to totally ignore us.

May 14th, 2007 at 8:49 pm“It’s not a boner, it’s a zucchini, see!” says the douchebag from the other thread who has been wrongly imprisoned.
May 14th, 2007 at 8:51 pmAh life in Caligula’s Rome redux.

May 14th, 2007 at 8:59 pmOf course, Boehner doesn’t care. This is the guy who was handing out checks for the tobacco lobbyist on the floor of the House during one of its sessions. Why would he think something is unethical when he is the embodiment of such actions?
May 14th, 2007 at 8:59 pmMore power to him, it’s just going to hurt the republicans that much more come 2008.
May 14th, 2007 at 9:02 pmYou can just see the greatness in that man?
May 14th, 2007 at 9:03 pmBoehner is a boner, again. I guess he gets a boner for Ken “Hood Hockey With Hooker” Calvert.
May 14th, 2007 at 9:13 pmredstate.org: “So, Boehner is pressuring the Steering Committee to totally ignore us.”
and that’s one to grow on.
May 14th, 2007 at 9:17 pmAaaahhhh, the Ostrich defense. I guess boner hasn’t noticed it isn’t working anymore.
May 14th, 2007 at 9:18 pmboner is steering his boner to toward you
May 14th, 2007 at 9:19 pmBoner is one of the criminals. He has no reason to quit.

May 14th, 2007 at 9:25 pmHow come y’all call him boner but you don’t call the other dude Gen. Buttiste?
Since you’re all obviously all up on my nutz, you should use both.
May 14th, 2007 at 9:28 pmPay no attention Boner’s sleazy political machinations, business as usual, move along….
May 14th, 2007 at 9:29 pm“Full speed ahead, helmsman, ignore the steering committee!
“Aye, captain!”
“Pay no attention whatsoever to the waves breaking over those rocks dead ahead!”
“Aye, aye, captain!”
“There’s money to be had just across that sand bar!”
“Aiee aiieee aiiieeeee! Captain!”
May 14th, 2007 at 9:31 pmDid Boner cry on cue? That would make him much more credible.
May 14th, 2007 at 9:35 pmI just saw that even RedState is campaigning against Calvert. Apparently they’re sick of corrupt Republicans for some reason.
May 14th, 2007 at 9:37 pmWell, no wonder Bush has f*cked the DoJ. If there had been a decent AG in the DoJ, half the Republicans on the Hill would be in jail.
Has anyone noticed GOP members have the Walking Dead look? Or is it that 1000-yard stare?
Funny, it’s the troops who are really stressed out and suffering Combat Stress Reaction which leads to PTSD. And yet we see the Chickenhawks exhibiting symptoms now.
Why? The Party is imploding. The suits running for the presidential nomination all sounded defeated before the first primary. How can you be exciting about being the man to defeated by Obama/Clinton/Edwards?
The GOP is in its death throes. It’s going the way of the Whig Party. Remember them? The Whigs were the party from whose ashes the Republican Party arose. Bush & Cheney have destroyed this Party; it’s time for the rump to decide what is the meaning of conservativism & tradition & family and found a new party. Why not call it The Conservative Party.
Anyway, better pick up your GOP souvenirs. The Party’s OVER.
May 14th, 2007 at 9:39 pmIt’s time to ignore Boehner as well.
May 14th, 2007 at 9:52 pmI just saw that even RedState is campaigning against Calvert. Apparently they’re sick of corrupt Republicans for some reason.

Redstate isn’t sick of corrupt rethugs they’re sick of corrupt rethugs getting caught. It damages their long term ability to abet the looting of our treasury and the destruction of our constitution.
May 14th, 2007 at 9:59 pmYeah, don’t confuse them with the facts, the fuehrer says Calvert’s his guy.
May 14th, 2007 at 10:30 pmYet another episode of Boner Benchmarks!
May 14th, 2007 at 10:41 pmHow long will THIS Boner last?
(if YOUR boner lasts longer than 4 hours, consult your lobbyist!)
The GOP is so over!
May 14th, 2007 at 11:47 pmBoner supports putting a Republic crook on the Appropriations committee. Ask me if I’m surprised.

May 15th, 2007 at 2:23 am‘06 was an awesome year for democrats…’08 is looking just as good, but I still sweat when I see these out of touch republicans making these assinine moves. How far removed from reality are they? Do they think they are invulnerable? Do they know something we don’t know? And as for the redstate rebellion…when push comes to shove, do you think any of them will back a democrat? Heck no, they’ll pinch their noses and still vote for greed, corruption, and sleeze a la Arlin Spector. Whenever some ‘news’ like this comes up, I suggest we each send an additional five dollars to a local campaign. Do something active rather than breath a sigh of relief that the other side is finally seeing the light…there… I just went to my county’s democratic website and donated five! That was easy. Your turn.
