Many of the Iraqi people have already expressed their desire for the US occupation to end, so rather than wait for a parliament that may be as disconnected from what the Iraqi people want as the US legislature, we should just leave.

The Republics are hoping and praying that the Iraqi Parliament votes to ask us to leave. That is the only way they can see to gracefully get us out of the mess that is Iraq. Even if Bush says “no way”, all the Republics need to do is to say “they have a democratically elected government and if they want us to leave, we have to respect their wishes.”

Nobody wants this war to last until the 2008 election. It would be Republican suicide. The GOP is desperate for a ’save face’ solution. A request for a withdrawal from the Iraqis would be the thing. Bush will hate it, but the Republicans on the Hill will be popping champagne corks.

Newsflash to Republican holdouts: The invasion was illegal under international law. The US/UK coalition was supposed to get a 2nd UN resolution to invade. It didn’t. The de facto occupation was given legality after the fact by a UN mandate that is conditional on the Iraqi government wanting the US/UK troops there. The troops are supposed to be providing security and allowing the reconstruction to go on. Should the Iraqi parliament ask for the troops to withdraw, it would be considered a illegal occupation after 31 December 2007. Good luck.

Good, if there’s a timetable, it should be secret – between the U.S. and Iraqi government. If the president can get to the point on War on Terror on time, then hopefully the Republican and swing-voters will be re-energized to ensure that we don’t get another extremist Democratic or Republican president in 2008. Chimpy’s in a no-win situation here. The Iraqi government has already asked us to leave and the Iraqi parliament is about to vote on it.

If Chimpy refuses to leave, then he is admitting that Iraq is not a sovereign nation and is still controlled by US troops.

The goverments of Iraq and America are on the verge of collapse. So, it must be time for the pukes to change their tune. The “rats to the corner” and squealing for forgiveness. The writing it on the wall. They are looking to save their asses and theirs alone.
The republicans are “weak on defense”, the defense of their long held positions.
It’s nice to see this day of total chaos at the whitehouse. george will order the flag be flown upside-down in the near future. The end maybe near.
