Please are all of you people seriously this ignorant? 1. The white house has been pushing for the 3.5 percent since last year so they are vetoing the bill for other reasons. 2. My base pay is $2323.80 a month, thats the only taxable income. My housing allowance is $2035 a month, substance allowance is $279 a month, cost of living allowance is $610 this month. another words not deployed every month I make over $5200 and get taxed on less then half of it, because of that my tax return this past year was over $7000. So lets see $5200 x 12 =$62,400 + $7000 tax return=$69,400 NOT DEPLOYED!!! when I am deployed depending on where and how long you can add $500-$1000 a month (everything tax free and incentive pay's) so you could add $6000-$12,000 a year if I was Deployed briging me well above $75,000.

Now I am also working towards my bachelors for free but all my friends who did college first are NOT making or living anywhere near my standard. I think the military pays rather well, BUT WHAT DO I KNOW I'M ONLY A SOLDIER.

By the numbers:
The 2005 Poverty Threshold for a family of 3 is $16, 090.

The average service man or woman is paid $15,600.

Inflation last year was 3.24%.

Bush wants to limit our service men and women to a 3% raise.

However, Bush is extending their tours of duty by 25%.

But, hey, they volunteered, right?

Former President Clinton.
Thank you for your superior service to my great nation. Sadly, like the false god of the right, you have clearly lost your wits. Atleast your mental defect sidelined you from any further postive contributions after your terms ended. Ronnie was forced to bumble around while still in office. As to the current holder of that seat, well a lost mind first requires one. Anyway, thanks again for your service but can you please take your crude and delusional self elsewhere. Maybe the dog needs a walk.

I think it is Bush's plan to veto ANY and ALL bills that make it through the Democratic houses, regardless of what they say, unless as before, they are a word for word regurgitation of his wishes.

That goes both ways, Mr P.

Comment by Zooey — May 18, 2007 @ 2:22 pm

you know, that is what Monica told me in the Oval Office. Shit the second she said that, I stained her dress!!! wow! don't remind me!

as for serving in the military, c'mon Zooey, it doesn't go both ways.

Liberals defended me and praised me when the american people found out that I had not served in Vietnam. That in fact, because I was terrified of being shot, I left my country and walked in marches accross Europe to protest the United States.

Kerry in 1992 said on the Senate floor that a person's military record or lack there of should not come into account when running for the Presidency. Man he was good, he defended me so well.

Strange though, after the propaganda was leaked out that Bush supposedly went AWOL, all the Liberals that had defended me went nuts after Bush. Go figure.

I mean I didn't serve and I sent troops to die in the battlefield, why didn't anyone ask me to send my daughter to go to war? why didn't anyone say to me that since I had been a coward and not served in Vietnam, I had no right to sent troops into harms way.

I don't know, I think it is my looks and my great skills at lying, but maybe one of you can tell me if I am wrong.

Total: $4,582.48 per month, or $54,989.76 per year, tax-free

---

E1 to E5, good research all. Still, I get paid more for that and I'm neither a college graduate nor am I putting my life on the line. 3.5% pay increase still sounds like a good idea and vetoing the ENTIRE bill over 0.5% makes NO sense! There's GOT to be something more to this. Is he just disagreeing for disagreement's sake? NOBODY can say with a straight face that Pres. Bush is trying to be "fiscally responsible" after these past 6 years! There's NO WAY it's a fiscal issue!

@president clinton

You're annoying and unfunny. Please just drop the shtick so people can actually have a conversation. If you have certain views dont hide behind the guise of humor to avoid actual back and forth discussion.

Two, with very specific language the White House opposed certain portions of the bill. Its not that they simply said they disagree with the bill entirely, its the specific disagreements that they expressed that have people angry.

Nice try though.

The #'s posted are for a fresh from boot camp E-1. Depending on what service they are in (rank ascension is deifferent for each service), they will not bbe an E-1 for long. I can speak for AF, as that is what service I am in. Here's how we break it down.

1st raise- whenyou graduate basic (8 weeks after joining)

E-2 promotion (if no discipline issues, ect) 6 months Time in Service (TIS)

E-3 promotion 16 Months TIS

E-4 promotion 36 Months TIS (Unless you get early rate, then it's 30 months TIS)

E-5 - E-7 we have to test for it, and it's up to the individual, how their evals have been, how the do on their promotion tests, fitness tests, ect. We are the slowest promoting service (typically). If you want, I can link the entire pay chart for you.

Oh yeah, all our pay isn't tax free, unless we are in a combat zone. Being stateside, my base pay and bonuses (if I got one, I don't) would all be taxable. My BAS (basic allowance for substinance), and BAH (basic allowance for housing) are not taxed. I also pay taxes, social security, and medicare just like everyone else.

Hope this helps...

Depending on what service they are in (rank ascension is deifferent for each service), they will not bbe an E-1 for long. I can speak for AF, as that is what service I am in. Here’s how we break it down.

1st raise- whenyou graduate basic (8 weeks after joining)

E-2 promotion (if no discipline issues, ect) 6 months Time in Service (TIS)

E-3 promotion 16 Months TIS

E-4 promotion 36 Months TIS (Unless you get early rate, then it’s 30 months TIS)

The problem isnt necessarily that the troops arent getting paid enough, but simply that someone has the gall to stand in the way of them getting paid more. As i expressed earlier, these dudes are being asked to do more with less. So while 3 years ago it may have seemed like enough, or even last year, this year and future are different. People are being tasked harder and longer, and they (Army and Marines especially) deserve to be compensated. Because when leave they iraq all that extra money disappears as well, and they go back to making 1700 (base pay) while facing the prospect of returning to iraq again within 12 months.’

Also, the guy is standing in the way of an increase in death benefits. Seriously, death benefits.

You know when I was President, Congress did this all the time. They would put all this earmarks on bills that on paper sounded good for someone, but when you looked at the details of the bill y ou would realize that yes you may do some good to some people, the earmarks and amendments to the bill were bad.

I know for a fact that Congress and my left wing pundit friends are being dishonest about this.

although I am glad that the left learned from me and are able to lie with such great ease.

Looks like this thread has been completely jacked. Two points though, one a troop in the battle field receives hazard pay, and other compensation. So the base pay of $1300 while accurate, does not reflect what is paid to the average us combat soldier, and two even with all of the extras, US combat troops are not as well paid as say the blackwater mercenarys who make a damn sight more money, and from what I understand (thank you hacker bob) are better equipped.

#60 You mean like the National Guard..?

Hmmmmmmm……..

Hello, wow, I did a better job than I thought! you liberals are great at lying.

Once a National Guard becomes active he receives a pay hike.

National Guards that are just "weekend" warriors and not in the front lines get basic pay because they are receiving a regular pay from a civilian job.

Not fair that National Guards would get two paychecks that equal to a higher pay than those that are active, right?

But good my friend, I can relate to you, you lie as well as I did back in the 1990s.

Wow this is a first… “President Clinton” is really boring and doesn’t seem too bright.

Well with my wife, companion, thing or whatever the hell she means to me getting all the media attention, well.....I am really stressed out.

I miss the days when the cameras were on me and everything was about me.

I mean geez, I received 43% of the popular vote in 1992 and then 48% of the popular vote in 1996, knowing that President Bush got more popular votes than I did really, really, really hit my ego. :(

and now my wife gets all this attention! It is JUST NOT FAIR
