It’s worth noting that President Bush’s threat to veto a 3.5 percent pay raise for U.S. soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan came just two days before Armed Forces Day, the “single holiday for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country.”

Yup. In lieu of the raises for the soldiers, EVERYONE gets a copy of the commemorative magazine.
Blackwater Employees THANK the soldiers for protecting them….
May 18th, 2007 at 10:32 pmGlad someone else noticed bush’s complete lack of support for our soldiers except when it’s mandatory or a great photo-op.
May 18th, 2007 at 10:33 pmReally supportin’ the troops there, Lil George, aren’t ya.

May 18th, 2007 at 10:42 pmHmmm: pay raises or posters…the choice is obvious, eh Bushy? You darling little Nazi cowboy you.

May 18th, 2007 at 10:49 pmWhat else does one expect from this president or the Republican elite. They believe that the rich are superior. Those who are of the lower order exist to serve, die and suffer for their superiors. Evangelical religion exists as the opiate of the masses. Tough law and order (but for the blessed Republican elite), stringent moral structure and a fanatical belief in the superiority of America under Republican rule will keep the masses in check.

Reason the insurgents were hitting us from almost day one?
When the war was won and they captured Bagdad, did they (Under Rumsfeld’s command ) do the textbook step next of securing or blowing all the ammo dumps and weapon stores?
They were invading for WMDs Right?
No, they secured the OIL ministry.
They lost the occupation the day they won the war.
The Abu-Grabass issues and the use of white phospherous on civillians only fueled the insurgency.
You do not endear the hearts of a civillian population when you f*cking melt the skin off their children.
( and yeah, I am a vet with combat exp. )
May 18th, 2007 at 11:02 pmHmmm, again, no trolls here “protecting” Bush’s good reputation. Perhaps as w/ Doolittle’s delusional rantings, the irony here is just to ugly to deal w/. In truth, how could you possibly defend this hypocritical insanity, w/ a straight face?
May 18th, 2007 at 11:02 pmBush does not care about US soldiers, because he just uses them as cannon fodder to secure the OIL reserves of Iraq.

This war will go down in history as the biggest military f*ckup in American History.
May 18th, 2007 at 11:30 pmSTOP…he supports a 0.5% raise which will bring our troops an extra $6 a month to our brave men and women…….please take down your magnetic yellow ribbons, get off your ass and do something.
May 18th, 2007 at 11:31 pmSTOP!!! He supports a 0.5% pay increase which equals $6 more per MONTH. Unfuckingbelievable. I am so fucking tired of the ‘I support the troops’ rant. Get rid of your magnetic yellow ribbons, get off your ass and do something….am I wrong?

And he ran it just as well as he would a business.
BTW: I was on a connecting flight from Denver to DC last night, and passenger “Alberto Gonzales” was paged just prior to the flight. I wonder if it was the smirking little bastard (I didn’t bother looking up from my paper to see). Does anyone know if shitbomb was out west yesterday?
Coincidentally, during the Reagan admin., I sat next to james Watt on a flight from Tampa to DC.
Must be bad luck.

May 19th, 2007 at 12:02 amLet’s just be clear about Ron Paul. He is opposed to the Iraq war and interventionist foreign policy because he is strongly Libertarian and isolationist. He has more in common with Patrick Buchanon than he has in common with progressives.

May 19th, 2007 at 12:27 am“It’s worth noting that President Bush’s threat to veto a 3.5 percent pay raise…”
I haven’t found anything, except on liberal sites, that show that Bush threatened to veto the bill over the troop pay raise, though he did say he didn’t think the extra .5 was necessary. It appears he threatened the veto over timelines, not troop pay. Is this another instance of TP distorting the truth to try to advance their cause?
May 19th, 2007 at 12:34 amFor the record, I’m all for getting our people out and letting the blood thirsty Islamists wipe each other out. Apparently a lot of Iraqi’s were happy the U.S. got rid of Sadaam, but failed to take into account the fact that they would have to take part in establishing peace by ratting out the insurgents and standing up to them.
Ah yes, a troll has shown up to defend the Blunderer-In-Chief.
Nice going, Uptight Right. if anyone can put a face-saving spin on Der Chimps’s reign, it’s going to be you.
May 19th, 2007 at 12:40 amOn an earlier thread, but relevant here:
By the numbers:
The 2005 Poverty Threshold for a family of 3 is $16, 090.
The average service man or woman is paid $15,600.
Inflation last year was 3.24%.
Bush wants to limit our service men and women to a 3% raise.
However, Bush is extending their tours of duty by 25%.

I’ll try to make it a little clearer for ya, stupid. I think we should have left Iraq long ago. I don’t think we should be there. We should bring our people home. All of Iraq is not worth the death of one of our service people. See, that is not a defense of Bush. It is disagreement with Bush. Do ya understand the difference, bud? But unlike you, I don’t think disagreeing with someone makes it ok to lie about what they’ve said or done. No matter what Bush and his crooked cabinet have done, it’s still not right to try to get people worked up by lying about what was said. Is it any clearer to ya now, buddy? ;)

Ummm, monkey, are you suggesting that James Clyburn isn’t liberal or just that his website isn’t liberal? Sorry to disappoint, but both are liberal. But keep trying. Maybe there is something that both you and I missed.

What you appear to be missing is something called a “fact”, Uptight Right. You may be entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.

May 19th, 2007 at 1:56 amThe charade of “supporting the troops” while they die for the incompetence and arrogance of the Bush junta must end. You do nothing to help the people you claim to support if all you do is clap real loud when one of them is killed. “He was a hero” end of story. Who cares why the f#ck on earth these Americans are dying in the middle of civil war that British Imperialism created.
May 19th, 2007 at 6:05 amI think that all the money that would have been available to give to our troops in pay raises, medical insurance, widows benefits is being handed over to the Blackwater mercenary thieves. They have been sucking the life out of our country by draining our military budget. If Congress cut the funding off for Blackwater and ordered them home, there is a big possibility that there would be money aplenty for our men and women in our country’s armed services.

uptight left - You truly are an idiot. The bill Bush is threatening to veto is not the emergency appropriation bill that includes timelines, it was an “on the books” funding bill for the military. You really do need to get your talking points straight. You are sounding more and more like a 12 year old who doesn’t know how to read.

Ok, Einstein, the headline said “Bush threatened to veto a 3.5 percent pay raise for U.S. soldiers.” As usual, TP is distorting the facts. He didn’t threaten veto it because of the 3.5 percent and we all know it. It was because of the timeline. I think we ought to be out of Iraq, so don’t tell me I’m defending Bush. I’m just ponting out the obvious distortion of facts in the TP headline. As long as we all know it’s a lie, fine. Maybe you should try to keep up with the thread before you post.

Thanks for posting that. I am currently at Ft. Irwin helping train the next set of troops set to go to the big sand box. I wish I wasn’t here, but more than that, I wish to hell they weren’t here. I will go home to a safe bed, but I know I am sending them to a hell they shouldn’t be going to. At my age, it is so heart wrenching to see these young faces going off to a war they shouldn’t be part of. To ‘upright left’ or is that ‘upright right’, you are so full of BS my feet are getting covered even at 4000′ MSL. The timeline is not in the military pay bill, it is in the military appropriation for the Iraq Occupation.
God, I wish I knew how to destroy IEDs before they could kill another US soldier!
