Ex-EPA chief agrees to testify to Congress.

After previously refusing a request to appear before Congress, “ex-EPA chief Christine Todd Whitman abruptly reversed herself Friday and agreed to testify before Congress on her agency’s response to the environmental fallout of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks…On Sept. 18, 2001, then-EPA head Whitman released a statement declaring the results from air monitoring tests in New York showed ‘their air is safe to breathe.’” It was not.

I think the Dems threatened to subpoena her.

That bitch got people killed in NYC.

If we still had the rule of law in this country, she would be in prison.

  2. Republicans are the Fear and Smear Party says:

What she meant is that the air is safe to breathe as long as you don’t inhale or exhale.

  3. nffcnnr says:

Good for her. i’m looking forward to hearing her side of the *cough cough* 9/11 air story. Does anyone know if we’ll hear from some of the ill first responders, or spouses of the ones that have died from 9/11 air?

  4. Spudge_Boy says:

I wonder if she has agreed because people are now asking questions thanks once again to Michael Moore and his new film SiCKO.

  5. Shane says:

What Christine Todd Whitman meant was the air is safe for me to breathe because I’m not going anywhere near that chemically laden toxic cesspool.

  6. Tom3 says:

Christine isn’t the only guilty one in this scandal.

Trudy Giuliani also ordered the city to okay the air.

They were conspiring together to lie about it.

  7. Shane says:

Update from Michael Moore: “Bush’s Treasury Secretary, Henry Paulson, launched an investigation of a trip I took to Cuba to film scenes for the movie. These scenes involve a group of 9/11 rescue workers who are suffering from illnesses obtained from working down at Ground Zero. They have received little or no help with their health care from the government. I do not want to give away what actually happens in the movie because I don’t want to spoil it for you (although I’m sure you’ll hear much about it after it unspools Saturday). Plus, our lawyers have advised me to say little at this point, as the film goes somewhere far scarier than “Cuba.” Rest assured of one thing: no laws were broken. All I’ve done is violate the modern-day rule of journalism that says, “ask no questions of those in power or your luncheon privileges will be revoked”

So after tomorrow it sounds like we’ll hear more about the film.

  8. barfly says:

A predicted sample of her upcoming testimony:

“I didn’t know…” “I wasn’t told exactly which sample had been used…” “I was told by career agency officials, many of whom…” “My calendar doesn’t indicate my knowing when…” “My assistants were primarily responsible for …” “No one possibly could have foreseen …” “I was led to believe…” “Except for isolated cases…” “A worst-case scenario only approximates the …” “Too many different, conflicting …”

  9. El Tonno says:

“I love the smell of asbestos and PCB in the morning.”
    “It smells like… Patriot Act!”

Moore is probably going to lay it on heavy as usual but not too far from the truth as usual.

Cue incoming troll flame about Moore being fat and debunked and making money.

  10. Tom3 says:

Sicko is scheduled to open in national release June 1.

Sounds good to me. And Al Gore’s new book is coming soon.

It is sad that our 9-11 victims have to go to Cuba to get medical treatment.

  11. heyzeus says:

    Whitman testimony:
“I can’t recall for sure, it was really dusty, and I couldn’t see very well….
But the air smelled OK, ‘cept for that stupid, sicky sweet air-freshener the limo driver had hanging from his mirror.”

  12. SKdeA says:

I have a friend in Manhattan who came down with a mystery disease after 9/11. The doctors are having no luck figuring it out. Hopefully this will help her and the other million or so who are wondering what exactly they were breathing…

  13. Tom3 says:

All that pulverized concrete dust the rescue workers and local residents breathed is going to give them a respiratory disease.

And theres no way that concrete got pulverized that fine by a building doing a pancake collapse from an airplane collision.

Those buildings were blown down by demolition experts.

  14. Fools on the Hill says:

It didn’t take a genius to realize those working without mask where going to suffer from lung damage. It was the first thing I said, when I saw the rescuers without masks on TV in Alaska.

  15. Uosdwis says:

Every flourescent light has a tiny droplet of mercury in it. Now imagine how many there were in the towers..

  16. Wayne says:

So after tomorrow it sounds like we’ll hear more about the film.

    Comment by Shane

What the administration forgets is that the embargo law does not affect free speech and journalism. Reporter are not barred by the law. And the courts have already ruled documentaties are considered journalism. If he gets charged, the judge will probably throw the case out.

This is just Bushco attempting to heavy handedly silence another critic.

  17. Kane says:

Almost six years have passed since Whitman first refused to testify, and now all of a sudden she’s willing to talk? Something stinks here, and it’s more than just the air.

Perhaps Whitman’s testimony is a convenient way to deflect recent criticism of Giuliani, and at the same time paint him as a hero once more.

  18. billjpa says:

If the comittee simply presents powder puff questions then it will be just one more nail in the coffin of the dems.
As you point out clearly, — She Lied! Simple, She LIED!
And oh, by the way- who knows how many people have and will die as a result of her lie?

  19. War4Sale says:

Maybe she’ll testify that she was pressured to lie to the public by Cheney, et. al?

  20. Karp's Disciple says:

Perhaps Whitman’s testimony is a convenient way to deflect recent criticism of Giuliani, and at the same time paint him as a hero once more.

  21. Knappy Headed Ho says:

Don’t blame her for the bad data.. she was using the same expert muckdog quotes who thinks absestos is good for you and could have saved the world trade center.

  22. hmbnancy says:

According to the written report produced by the Sierra Club in 2005, the White House authorized the return to lower Manhattan wanting the stock market to reopen.

This report blasts the EPA for allowing people to enter what they describe as a hazardous zone loaded with toxic chemicals, asbestos, and pulverized concrete.

Having Christine testify could point to Bush and or Rove as having made the decision to jepordize thousands of people’s health by declaring that area safe.
