Britain’s envoy to Iraq, Alastair Campbell, says the escalation is not working. “Campbell, whose remarks may cause embarrassment to Downing Street and anger in Washington,” said last week, “The evidence does not suggest that the surge is actually working, if reduction in casualties is a criterion. The figures in April were not encouraging.”

As long as there are no attacks on the USA the escalation is working.

May 20th, 2007 at 3:06 pmLandSurveyor is speaking from personal experience. As a child in NYC, he wore one of those “elephant-chaser” bracelets . . . and he was never trampled by an elephant.
He’s one brick short of a load just like his fearless leader, GDumbya. It’s the same old “post hoc, ergo propter hoc” fallacy that keeps these morons trudging down the road to nowhere.
May 20th, 2007 at 3:09 pmTP is using very harsh censorship today…
…you’re undermining your own site…
…for thepurpose of deflecting criticism from AIPAC…
… and the you know who lobby…
…so be it…
May 20th, 2007 at 3:11 pmI think #1 was being sarcastic. Either that or he’s Sunday’s winner of “The Stupidest Troll on TP” award.
May 20th, 2007 at 3:11 pmBush’s failure in Iraq hasn’t been in his inability to sell the “surge” to Americans–it has always been his inability to convince anyone to give a shit about Iraq. Even Perle and Wolfowitz bailed. The only people making any sacrifice for this “war” are the soldiers and their families–everyone else is shopping.
May 20th, 2007 at 3:12 pmPeople are really fed up with this disgusting Admin. & the war:

May 20th, 2007 at 3:14 pmThe killing in Iraq has absolutely no relationship to attacks on the US or lack of them….Perhaps only in the sense that there are many many thousands of Arabs more willing now than ever to volunteer to attack…and payback will come, troops or no troops, surge or no surge…So, you can quake in your boots all you want and root for bush’s madness but the “blowback” is gonna get you…Its KARMA baby.
May 20th, 2007 at 3:19 pmI think #1 was being sarcastic.
Judging by his sadly ill-informed commentary on the Broder thread, I’d say it’s for real.
Sorry Fantasyland, don’t want to pop your bubble. Go back to your “all is well” mode of thought.
May 20th, 2007 at 3:19 pmbig papa,
Here’s a post for you:
ISRAEL!!!!! ISRAEL!!!!! ISRAEL!!!!!
Let’s see how long it’ll last.
May 20th, 2007 at 3:19 pm:P
trueblue– it doesn’t help when the main stream media tells us (with video images of fully-armed US soldiers kick down Iraqi doors plays in the background) that “things are getting better” over there. If things were any better Dick Cheney wouldn’t need an armored vest to visit the Hell he helped create.
May 20th, 2007 at 3:20 pmNah true…
…you gotta say something “provocative” like…
…the U.S. is NEVER leaving Iraq…

May 20th, 2007 at 3:34 pmLS -d,
Do you even know the history of this conflict?
May 20th, 2007 at 3:38 pmDoubt it.
Israel has been more than patient in the 40 years of occupying Palestinian territory. There’s only seven or eight checkpoints every person has to go through to go to school or work. More settlements are being illegally established every month.
May 20th, 2007 at 3:38 pmAnd who are the terrorists?
Let’s see if this post gets up, stays up…
GORDON Brown will remove all British forces from Iraq before the next election under a plan to rebuild support among disillusioned Labour voters.
Scotland on Sunday can reveal the Prime Minister elect is working on a withdrawal plan that could see troop numbers slashed from 7,000 to as few as 2,000 within 12 months.
When the ICC want Blair for war crimes hes going to have to live in America ,
I can bet you now that on the 26th of June when he steps down - Hes flown straight out the country to the US

Well, there is this:
WASHINGTON — A major CIA effort launched last year to hunt down Osama bin Laden has produced no significant leads, but has helped track an alarming increase in the movement of al-Qaida operatives and money into Pakistan’s tribal territories, according to senior U.S. intelligence officials.
In one of the most troubling trends, U.S. officials said al-Qaida’s command base in Pakistan increasingly is being funded by cash from Iraq, where the terrorist network’s operatives are raising substantial sums from donations to the insurgency as well as kidnappings of wealthy Iraqis and other criminal activity.
The influx of money has bolstered al-Qaida’s leadership ranks at a time when the core command is regrouping. The trend also signals a reversal in the traditional flow of al-Qaida funds, with the leadership surviving to a large extent on money from its most profitable franchise, rather than distributing funds from headquarters to distant cells.
Al-Qaida’s efforts were aided, intelligence officials said, by Pakistan’s withdrawal in September of tens of thousands of troops from tribal areas along the Afghanistan border where bin Laden and his top deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri, are believed to be hiding.
Little more than a year ago, al-Qaida’s core command was thought to be in a financial crunch. But U.S. officials said cash shipped from Iraq has eased those troubles.
“Iraq is a big moneymaker for them,” a senior U.S. counterterrorism official said.
Hold tight to that “the surge is working” security blanket.

“……escalation not working.” No surprise here.
May 20th, 2007 at 4:43 pm7 more U.S. Soldiers killed this weekend. Is there any doubt the surge is not working? When are we going to see this bastard administration in jail? I’m so disgusted.

May 20th, 2007 at 9:19 pm#1 landsurveyor….
[ As long as there are no attacks on the USA the escalation is working]
There was no proof any time that there were attacks on the USA,before or during this war from the country of Iraq or Iraqis against the USA.
You used the words ..escalation is working,in relationship to ‘no attacks on USA’, but the correlation is not there , since there were no attacks against us from Iraq to begin with ,whether before this war or now.
But with this escalation the attacks continue against Americans in Iraq, and it did not stop, but rather they increased.
May 20th, 2007 at 9:33 pmOnly White House sycophants are not saying the escalation is working — and that is who Bush parades out before the cameras to defend his “strategy.”
May 20th, 2007 at 10:54 pm99% of Americans, experts and citizens, can shout that the escalation isn’t working, but Petraeus is General yes-man and that’s all Bush needs to continue this escalation into the end of his presidency.
Fifteen soldiers have been killed in Iraq in the past three days.
Sorry only White House sycophants ARE saying teh escalation is working. The “not” is misplaced.
May 20th, 2007 at 10:55 pmThe evidence does not suggest that the surge is actually working
In one short sentence, the White House seems increasingly isolated in their penchant to plow ahead, all evidence be damned.
Actual leadership requires a whole lot more than catchy -but empty- slogans and involves some taking into account the realities of the world around us, a fact the Bush personality cult followers still have to get their little minds around.
But then, these people still think Hussein shipped his WMD to Syria for safekeeping (WTF? and LOL!). Sometimes I wonder if they think maybe the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny were involved.
