Dr. Laura’s son linked to lurid Web site.
The 21-year-old soldier son of right-wing talk radio host “Dr. Laura” Schlessinger “is under investigation for a graphic personal Web page that one Army official has called ‘repulsive.’”
The MySpace page, publicly available until Friday when it disappeared from the Internet, included cartoon depictions of rape, murder, torture and child molestation; photographs of soldiers with guns in their mouths; a photograph of a bound and blindfolded detainee captioned “My Sweet Little Habib”; accounts of illicit drug use; and a blog entry headlined by a series of obscenities and racial epithets.

She doesn’t have the answers to her callers lives, they have everything they need to make the right decision deep in their own soul.
And “DR.” Laura is a doctor of physiology (that’s PE, folks), not psychology.

Controversy arose because of Schlessinger’s previous advice to callers telling them to “honor thy father and mother” was viewed by some as contrasting with her not knowing her own mother had died months ago.

May 20th, 2007 at 11:49 pmOn the one hand, I commend this brave young man for being one of the few right wingers to actually pick up a weapon and stand a post, when so many war supporters are just chicken-hawks.
But on the other hand, war and combat does change a person… and I hate to see anyone’s son, even Dr. Laura’s son, fighting and occupying a country that does not want us there and that we illegally invaded. I do hope that this young man makes it back in one piece and I thank him for his service to this country. That being said, war will bring out the best and worst in people. It sounds like bravado covering up fear to me…but then again, I’m not a psychologist, nor do I play one on the radio.

May 21st, 2007 at 12:57 amI saw a film clip of a psychology experiment today… and it described 3 groups of boys that were exposed to 3 types of leadership styles the first was authoritarian, the second was laissez faire, and the third was democratic in nature…
In the first group the boys did a great deal of work, but all of the decisions were made by the leader/teacher, and the children only worked if the authoriarian was around — fear of punishment ruled the day.
In the second group, where there was virtually no guidance and the children were allowed to do as they wished, they did almost no work at all and that work they did was of a poor quality.
In the third group, the leader worked together with the boys and guided their work, but allowed them to make thier own chioces and contribute ideas as well…this group was the group with the greatest creativity and the most innovative work…
People like Dr. Laura and GWB strike me as “my way or the highway types.” And those around them behave very well as long as the authority is present. But take the authority figure out of the picture and chaos insues because the moral authority is no longer there… so the children of these types of parents when they let loose almost swing the full pendulum the opposite way before becoming centered back in their own authority… if they are lucky enough to survive this rebellious period.
As for how Abu Ghraib happened… one need look no farther than the Milgram experiment in 1965 and the Stanford Prison Experiment by Zimbardo. It’s what can happen when good people are put in bad situations…

There’s also another group that’s been overlooked almost entirely and that’s the private army, the Blackwater and Dyncorp mercs. I’ve seen some on community networks that post the same kind of hateful rhetoric for the people in Iraq and Afghanistan and now real heavy on Iran. Some of them also hate America too, they’re fucking nuts.

We’re ok, thank you Zimzone. I used to work in that courthouse, and I knew the officer who was killed by sight only, since I didn’t deal with City cases, I know the deputy who is injured, he was my neighbor for three years. There’s a news conference at 11 a.m., and we should know who the shooter was then.

May 21st, 2007 at 12:51 pmOkay here’s a RARE devil’s advocate moment from myself… Any chance his MySpace account was hacked or hijacked and modified without his knowledge? Just a thought… It’s not exactly the most secure site in the world and only guessing a password separates anybody from modifying anybody else’s page with damaging content. His lack of comment doesn’t necessarily indicate anything either since the military lawyers may have told him not to say anything, even if he wanted to deny the allegations publicly.
I mean the page sounds waaaay over the top. So either it IS a fake or he is one really twisted individual.
I’m keeping my mind open here for a little while until the evidence is a little more solid. … eg, MySpace logs showing the page edits were done from an IP address block that belongs to where he was stationed. That sort of thing.
Disclaimer: I think Dr. Laura is a hypocrite and am not defending her. Only pointing out the possibility that this may, in fact, be fraud.

If he’d been like me as a young man, he would have been able to get out of military service by having his crooked old man make a phone call. Then, he would have failed his physical because he was hooked on cocaine and finally he would have deserted when he got tired of white knuckling his way through flights.
If he’d done those things, he wouldn’t be in trouble now.

He didn’t. He was in the National Guard, which is what most people with the right connections did to avoid Vietnam (and probably the real reason there are complaints aboiut deploying them now.)
Unless of course, you wanted to maintian political viability, then you could run to Europe (Clinton), get a safe job in Saigon (Gore) or accidentally get a dangerous job, but fake a way out of it (Kerry).
