Bush: ‘I stand by Al Gonzales.’

By Nico Pitney on May 21st, 2007 at 3:01 pm

Bush: ‘I stand by Al Gonzales.’

President Bush says a Senate vote of no confidence in Attorney General Alberto Gonzales would be “pure political theater.” Bush added, “He has got my confidence. He has done nothing wrong. … I stand by Al Gonzales, and I would hope that people would…get the job done of passing legislation, as opposed to figuring how to be actors on the political theater stage.”

…just don’t stand that close : that putrid smell of impeachment can be quite nasty!…

Excellent…..keep up the good work Chimpy.

  6. Rusty says:

Of course he does. Does anyone really thik he’s just going to let Albertross go? No way. Then he’d actually have to – oh the horror – get someone past Congress (a Constitutional stipulation). Oh the cruel nasty Democrats would never let one of his good pals that is sure to protect his crimal behavior through! What’s a corrupt president to do these days? What piece of s**t. What an embarrassment to the rule of law. What an obvious attempt to stimey justice.

Did anyone hear how many time he said “No law was broken…” in the presser? Think maybe he was desperately trying to stress it? I can wait until he is dining on crow about his matter… which I will predict happens around Thursday of this week.

    IMPEACHMENT ORGY!!!

  8. waldo says:

The phrase “political theatre” seems to have become Dubious’ mantra as of late.

  9. Buck Fush says:

And we should believe Bush because…? He is a liar, and well, I don’t listen to liars…besides he is a criminal, a war criminal to boot, and why should anyone believe him about anything?

Hey Bubble Boy, you suck and your criminal Gonzo sucks too.

  11. Tom says:

    I stand by Al Gonzales

What GDumbya really means is that he stands behind Gonzo.

Gonzo is his shield and protector. He’s the one who got his DUI record expunged and has taken bullets for him ever since. Little snot-nosed brats like GDumbya don’t survive without sponsors and supporters and toadies like Gonzo to hide behind.

  12. chimpeach says:

    ‘I stand by Al Gonzales.’

Wow. Big surprise there. Yeah, if you didn’t keep Gonzales in the AG’s office, you’d be totally screwed.

That’s okay. He can be impeached. And then it’s your turn.

  13. SouthWest Bob says:

Bubble boy has and will never admit he’s made a mistake and the AG is a BIG mistake. Additionally, as long as everyone is focused on “Al” then the focus will not be on Bushco. Removing the barrier between himself and the truth would be too risky.

  14. Ray says:

Bush: “Alberto is not a crook!”

  15. President Bush says:

    I WIN YOU LOSE!!!

He is a loyal supporter of torture, unending war, raping of civil liberites, and stacking of the judicial system with partisan hacks.

How could I let him go?

  16. chimpeach says:

    #6 Rusty

Did anyone hear how many time he said “No law was broken…” in the presser?

He assumes it’s not against the law to lie while giving sworn testimony before Congress. He also assumes that the lies are somehow going to stop the congressional investigations in their tracks. He assumes too much.

  18. david says:

Bush is a Decider in the way a two year old is a Decider: He can say No No No No No No No.

His inability to decide when to fire Wolfowitz, Gonzales, and Rumsfeld brought disgrace on to first the official, then the office, and finally the president himself.

Bush fails to understand that, by not making the tough and rather obvious decisions, he looks like an incompetent fool. His becoming Capt Queeg of the Caine Mutiny. And I shouldn’t wonder if he isn’t wondering who took that extra pint of strawberries right now.

OT : Wednesday’s testimony by Monica Goodling may prove interesting. Will she ‘out’ Turdblossom?

  21. Republicans are the Fear and Smear Party says:

If anyone is “acting” it’s George Bush trying to act like a president and, as usual, doing a shitty job at it.

  22. RUCerious says:

Bush has his loyal doggie on a short leash. As long as the AG doesn’t muck up his testimony or remember anything, he’s the chymp’s guy.

  23. Angry One says:

There is no more certain confirmation of the criminality, ethical-wrong doing or imminent departure of a Bush team player than the President’s expression of confidence in him.

  26. Bob says:

Amatuer hour at the shadow puppet theater of the Justice Department, and Bush has full confidence. The incompetence starts at the top and by the time it trickles down, whole departments are victims of it.

It’s freedom and human rights that suffers the most.

  31. dallas1 says:

While the whole AG situation is shady, how can you stand behind someone who performed the way he did in his testamony?

“I don’t know” doesn’t cut it with me, and it shouldn’t for anyone. An embarrasment to himself, and to the (entire) administration.

  32. Fuggettaboutit says:

    Awesome!!

Everyone knows what happens to guys that Dubya ’stands behind’ ! It’s only a short matter of time before Gonzales is gone for good.

  33. El Tonno says:

    Absolut Kafka!!

The only rational explanation is that Georgie stands by in case a large bus comes by at appreciable speed. But that can’t be it either…

  34. nanlichi says:

Of course he stands behind Fredo. Fredo is hunched over like a dog shitting peach pits with Bush right behind him. He serves to pleasure the president after all…………

Bush: “Hehe, there’s an old Texas sayin’ that says if you can’t stand the heat when you stand for nothin’ then you can only stand up when someone else stands down. Well Al and I is still standin’ side by side next to the fruit stand. Y’all understand?”

  37. ForTruth says:

Just don’t hold it against him George.

  38. Publicus says:

I’d like to see Bush stand by Gonzo inside a cell in a federal prision.

  39. enaud says:

“political theater.” This from photo op bushie who put on his flight suit, flew the plane, won the war and created his doll.

  40. Joel says:

    “I stand by Al Gonzales”

Then you can leave with him, too

  41. chimpeach says:

How about you standing by Dick Cheney while he cleans his shotguns.

  43. menno says:

well.. i think it’s just unbelievable to see their are so many dumb people on this planet, the usa, europe and worse somewhere else.

it seems to me that only Bush does have brains and some handfull others like Tony Blair.

the rest is indeed political theatre

of course Bush participated on this theatre, but the difference is that he does have reality world brains, and the others are only wanne be hero’s of the mass public. Sad isn’t it ?

what a mega mess the world would have been without Bush switching the course this world would have gone.

i have no idea if he did it only for ‘the oil’

but the result on long term .. is very very good.

why ? because the ‘moderate’ moslim nowdays dare to open his/her mouth somewhat more in closed countries in their own innercircle

a bad doctor makes deep wounds

that would have been Bush if he did not do what he did

    in other words

Bush is the long term planet healer

for me .. Bush is wiser as Buddha

and i throw up from the mass public clones everywhere who are ‘against’ Bush.. but i forgive them, because there brains don’t work that well.. and i wonder if they have any idea how many kilometers the earth spans.. probably they will shout something in the millions ;-) .. just ask some dumbhead who is against Bush.. they don’t know.. because they are dumb

  44. John Tee says:

    Sirs,

President Bush’s judgment to any of his politial or justice appointees is like the “kiss of death” He sure killls them all off.
    Gonzales, your dead!!!!!!
    Sincerely……John Tee.

  45. President Bush says:

    menno,

I would say your a good guy, but your post made no sense whatsoever. I try to be a good President, but its hard with idiots like you trumpeting me when you make no sense. And that is coming from a guy known to butcher the language.

  46. OutSourced says:

I’m not sure that Shrub’s support should make ‘Fredo feel very secure. After all, Rocco stood right beside his namesake in the boat on Lake Tahoe, while ‘Fredo was saying his Hail Mary’s, praying for fish. Rocco sent him to sleep with the fishes, instead. Figuratively speaking, Rumsfeld fared little better after being given Mr. B’s warmest support. Same with Heckuva Job Brownie, ad naseum.

Shrub may certainly want ‘Fredo to stay. He cringes whenever he has to work with new people, and regards every disagreement as an attack on his manhood – which ordinarily suggests he himself doesn’t think much of it. ‘Fredo never disagrees, whereas a new lawyer might think that’s his or her duty at times.

I can’t imagine how Shrub would react to having a chief Govt lawyer who thinks his or main goal is the impartial administration of justice. Among other things, that would knock Karl’s Shoppe back a few paces in their Election ‘08 planning. Nevertheless, if I were ‘Fredo, I would refuse all invitations from Shrub’s friends to go fishing.

  47. OutSourced says:

Shrub knows that if he let’s ‘Fredo go, everyone else will think they’re next. They’d be right, of course.

Karl knows that would be the end of controlling the DOJ and all its prosecutors, an end to stonewalling without consequence, an end to hiding his bags of dirty laundry and incriminating e-mails, and an end to any prayer of winning in ‘08.

So, the House and Senate should dust off all those impeachment manuals and start reading. If they let ‘Fredo skate after even this much disclosure, Democrats can give up any notion that they’ll be taken seriously when they say they would do it differently or do it better. I think Karl’s counting on that, so let’s disappoint him, shall we?

  48. Marie says:

So he stands by Gonzales — that is worthless. He’s worthless and so is Gonzo. What Bush thinks is irrelevant and immaterial.

  49. big papa says:

I wonder who Bushiva loves more…

    …Gonzo…

    …or…

    …Laura?

  50. menno says:

I don’t think the objective is really to be a ‘good president’.

I think the objective is to make sure the USA does maintain victory for a 10.000 years an is the leader in world events.

‘be a good president’ ? that’s something so short term objective, and thus dumb.

to be a ‘good president’ . you only follow the guidelines of a (old fashion pseudo) left wing objective.. and that’s it ! that’s really easy, but digging the country’s (and the world) own grave… not really smart thus.

  51. menno says:

i remember a year ago that Gonzales made very good attempts to convict and round up offenders of disgusting issue’s on the internet where children are abused.

for me Gonzales is a hero pure 100%

yes, he is less independant and more a person employeed by Bush (president you remember) … but should that not be the case actually he is doing what Bush wants ? you did not elected you’re president for a joke i suppose ?

that’s such a double strange mentality

    first you elect a president
and then lot’s of people think it’s ’strange, or ‘not done’ .. when the people in hyarchie in line are doing what he wants ?

strange and just a stupid ‘anti everything’ attitude

i have double respect for Gonzales

in his eyes i really see the power of to change the world in-good.
and i do not see ‘wanting to make the mass dumb public happy’

so he is a hero for me

    and that’s it.

  52. Jim Crow Laws Employment Law Us Supreme Court says:

Jim Crow Laws Employment Law Us Supreme Court

I can not agree with you in 100% regarding some thoughts, but you got good point of view
