Conservative candidate avoids Iraq talk.

Conservative candidate avoids Iraq talk.

Jim Whitehead (R), a former Georgia state senator running in the special election to succeed the late Rep. Charlie Norwood, is making a concerted effort to avoid discussing the war, claiming “Iraq has not been a big thing in our district“:

When it comes to Iraq, Whitehead has picked up right where Norwood left off, standing firmly behind President Bush.

But even in this heavily conservative district in rural northeast Georgia, Whitehead has decided that showcasing a stay-the-course position is not a good idea.

Whitehead’s press releases have not mentioned the war for months. His new campaign ad does not address it. The first use of the word “Iraq” on Whitehead’s Web site is buried in a summary of the fight against terrorism in a section labeled “other important issues.”

An April poll by the conservative polling firm Strategic Vision found that “52 percent of Georgians disapproved of Bush’s handling of the war in Iraq and only 33 percent approved.”

    Another out-of-touch Republican.

  2. President Bush says:

    Don’t Worry Whitehead,

Keep your head in the sand like me, and we’ll get you elected. One way or the other.

well, if people don’t like it, maybe we should just “pretend” it doesn’t exist.

i used to do that when my mom asked me to clean my room…..whitehead has the diplomacy of a 6 year old.

The reality is that war is murder. innocents are killed by an aggressive force – and on that point alone, this war must end now. not next year….now.

Isn’t there a Fawlty Towers sketch where the deranged and pathetic Basil Fawlty (John Cleese) keeps saying of his German guests “Whatever you do, don’t mention the War.”

    Conservative candidate avoids Iraq talk…

Maybe if the ‘Cons just avoided talking completely, they’d gain back some credibility.

BTW, Mr. President #2, I’m beginning to like you!

Mr. Resident Tush, sir, there’s a whitehead in Georgia that needs popping, thought you might want to help out, take you right back there to your college days.

If this Whitehead guy does not want to talk about this Illegal war than the good people of Georgia should bring the war up every time he has a rally. They need to vote for who ever is running againist him. We do not need another Right Wing Nut Republican in the House of Rep.

  13. Jake-o-bin says:

Whitehead is merely focusing on the important issues that Americans care about: abortion, homosexuality, Terri Schiavo, abstinence-only sex education, torture, freedom fries, freedom from regulations, and the death tax.

    Who cares about Iraq anyways?

    Iraq? What is Iraq?

  16. Matt says:

You can help stop Whitehead by contributing to his Democratic opponent James Marlow Here at his ActBlue page.

  17. Michael Knox says:

Yea, that’s right. Vote for a man who supports Yahoo’s efforts of turning in Chinese Dissidents to the Communist PRC. That’s an honorable endeavor. Elect a man who believes in taking away free speech rights. Vote Marlow.

I don’t know what the big deal is. Whitehead simply supports Bush’s position on the war. He stands firmly behind the argument and can’t add any more to the argument. There is another poll out there (sorry, I don’t have a source) that shows an overwhelming majority in the Ga. 10th district want something done about immigration. Before you read and believe the B.S. in the article, consider one thing: Fort Gordon is in the heart of Whitehead’s district, which means that is a HUGE pro-war district. Think about it.

#13 Jake-o-bin I care about our Men & Women that are being killed in this Illegal War. Maybe you should sign-up and go and fight in Iraq.

Actually, this document of life in rural north Georgia tends to support Whitehead:
