Robert Greenwald’s Brave New Foundation is airing a new online video that calls for the House Judiciary Committee to begin impeachment proceedings against Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. You can sign the petition here. Watch the video:
Impeach. now. why? because it’s the right thing to do – and not just for criminals like cheney and bush, but the rest of the gang too. Including Alberto.
Impeachment is about restoring the rule of law, and the Constitution and must be done no matter what the politicians tell us…
Unrelated: does anyone know why Thinkprogress is mum on the secret trade deal that is dividing the Democratic Party? See David Sirota’s arduous efforts regarding this and then ask along with me that it be addressed here …
Suggestion to TP aministrators: take some petty cash, post an ad on craigslist and hire some decent trolls. The ones we’ve got now are so pathetic it’s not worth debating them and they’re so absurd that it’s not worth parodying them.
on a personal note, although alberto gonzales richly deserves impeachment and should, under no circumstances be heading the justice department, i also think that the longer he remains at his post, the greater the damage he will cause to the bush administration, and that is a good thing… however, i could easily argue the opposite case, and that is, once gonzales is gone, a major firewall protecting bush and rove will go with him, and that is also a good thing…
Impeach him because evidence in the Senate trial will come out that will lead to Rove and probably to Bush. We need an impeachment to get at the real corruption going on in the White House.
Hey RS- isn’t it obvious? it actually ties in with my off-thread Lobbyist reform post.
I have loved TP for a long time- but it is apparent, that it has it’s own agenda being a Center run by Podesta. He is very close to Clinton and this is probably only serving to agenda.
Sure they throw “Progressive” around, but true Progressives are concerned about Labor and Corporate dominance in our Capital- they don’t seem to be as much… Only exposing the Right and “brain-dead media, which any intelligent person knows goes on.
They like to get us riled-up over things of minor consequence- yet they don’t want to hold our side up to campaign promises.
Do you realize how ironic your post is? Your party impeached a president over consensual oral sex and you have the nerve to accuse “liberals” of blunting the impact of impeachment??!!
It’s a win win profmarcus. The Bush Admin. is permanently damaged whether Gonzo stays or goes. That is a known known. I also agree with the first post. To pursue impeachment is not revenge but reestablishing the rule of law at the highest ends of our government.
Impeachment just like government itself has been cheapened by the Republicans because they have such little respect for both. The more they can tune out citizen of the this country the more they can control it.
Impeach. Impeach. Impeach. Do liberals know anything else? Like the boy who cried wolf, this cry has lost it’s impact.

Apologist. Apologist. Apologist. Do you wingnuts know anything else?
Just how much corruption, lies, and incompetence are you willing to ignore or find excellent reasons for?
It is irrefutably clear that under Gonzales, with the influence of Bush and Rove, that any pretence of neutrality of application of law in the DOJ has been discarded. People have been punished and removed from AG posts for not pursuing spurious investigations, the purpose of which was none other than to create political turmoil before elections for Democrats. The Civil Rights division has been pretty much dismantled. Bush committed an impeachable act by sending Gonzales to Ashcroft’s hospital room to pressure him to approve an illegal surveillance program. Only by impeaching Gonzales (and Bush and Cheney for that matter), can a message be sent to future office holders that the President and the executive are not above the law, and the DOJ’s role is to enforce the law even handedly, not make it the perverted handmaiden of raw political machinations. To restore the Consitution and rule of law, you must impeach.
For the latest news, document dumps, email archives, hearing transcripts and other essential materials in the firings of U.S. attorneys, see: “The U.S. Attorney Scandal Documents.”
Why waste all this time with impeachment proceedings for Gonzales, Cheney, and Bush. Let’s bring back tar & feathering, quartering and lynchings for politicians who refuse to listen to the will of the people. If the people were ‘willing’ to make a few examples out of a batch of government officials then the rest would act right.
Michael,
Libertas inaestimabilis res est – Liberty is a thing beyond all price
Time to show the thugs in the White House that the American People are still the boss. Bush should read the Constitution and stop with the cocktail hours.
For too long this administration has chosen what laws to obey and what laws to ignore. It’s our turn to enforce the law of the constitution. Alberto Gonzales has reduced our privacy and increased the power of the executive branch… Illegally! He crafted the illegal NSA wiretapping program, he wrote and lobbied for the current “interpretation†of the Geneva convention…AKA torture, he fired U.S. attorneys to use the DOJ as a political wing of the GOP, and he obstructed justice during his sworn testimony… enough is enough.
As the head of the United States Department of Justice we deserve a competent, truthful, respectable, smart, and non biased official for the American People and our constitution, not the consiglieri of the President.
Impeach. now. why? because it’s the right thing to do – and not just for criminals like cheney and bush, but the rest of the gang too. Including Alberto.

May 21st, 2007 at 12:31 pmsorry- it was off thread- but i just got an email regarding it, and it pissed me off.
On this one- yeah, of course he should be impeached.
If he was his (the unelecteds) lawyer from TX, and his WH counsel, how would anyone think he would have an impartial, rule by law Justice Dept?!?

May 21st, 2007 at 12:50 pmThis is all very fun- but let the Repubs do some of the heavy lifting for a change.
The Repubs can lift that rock and see all the big and little creatures under that rock and in the bright light of day draw their own conclusions.
Now thats a biprtisan idea I can get behind.

May 21st, 2007 at 1:00 pmBush looks drunk in this video.
Or at the very least, withering under a very bad hangover.
(Not as bad as The American People have been under since the Election was stolen in 2000). It’s been almost 7 year hangover.)

May 21st, 2007 at 1:15 pmThe most hilarious part of this video is when Sen. Leahy is questioning Goonzales.
It’s downright scary, though, in it’s very core what this EVIL MAN is doing/ tried to do.
