McCain still unhinged.

By Nico Pitney on May 21st, 2007 at 2:13 pm

McCain still unhinged.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) offers this response to criticism of his immigration plan: “In the case of Governor Romney, maybe I should wait a couple of weeks and see if it changes, because it’s changed in less than a year from his position a year before, and maybe his solution will be to get out his small varmint gun and drive those Guatemalans off his lawn.”

Digg It!

  2. hil Says:

oh the crazy man is so funny! Its like sketch comedy... with bloodshed

  3. TripMaster Monkey Says:

Amazing....McCain's swinging away at the other Repuke candidates as if he actually has some sort of chance of winning the nomination.

    He's just precious.

  4. Not Canadian Says:

    John McCain = Elmer Fudd

  5. RagingGurrl Says:

Who does McCain think he is, Ann Coulter?

  6. Fed the Fcuk Up! Says:

    Crazy old man.

  7. Dumb_Fox Says:

I thought bloggers were supposed to be vitriolic and angry.

  8. Fools on the Hill Says:

McCain may be the least crazy of that gang running for Republican President (except Paul).

Come on, this is funny. Mitt said he was a small varmint hunter. He also had illegal immigrants taking care of his lawn and now he claims those who hire illegals should be prosecuted.

  9. Mary Poplins Says:

McCain will never, never, never be President. We will have a Democrat for our President. We need to impeach Cheney and than Old Bush so Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi can be our Presidnet. We need a Woman to fix this mess you Republican have made.

  10. heyzeus Says:

If Mitt would quit shooting them poor little bunnies, he wouldn't have to worry about his lawn getting overgrown.
    And McCain, is, well insane!

  11. Chris Says:

Yeah, that was a pretty good line. I can see Jon Stewart making the same joke.

  12. lw Says:

I'm sure any criticism of this statement will be met by him with the usual,"Get a life."

  13. Mark @ News Corpse Says:

    Oh please...

That's the best thing I've ever heard McCain say.

If Romney gets the nomination (yeah, right) our candidate should recycle that endlessly. It nails Romney for his ludicrous explanations of his positions on gun issues as well as his hypocrisy on labor and immigration. In one brief and humorous sentence.

Why don't we have writers like that (outside of the Daily Show)?

  14. Badmoodman Says:

"John McCain = Elmer Fudd" - - I think it's much more like:
    John McCain = Yosemite Sam

  15. Marco Says:

I love it. Let them eat their own.

  16. VerbalKint Says:

    small varmint gun?!?!

  17. Zooey Says:

    Imagine that....

  18. Zimzone Says:

Reminds me of the SNL animated version of the 'R' debate...

    Mittuns: 'I have 7 wives'

    Rudy: 'I have 9 wives & 2 slaves'

    McCain suddenly cold cocks Rudy...

    McCain: 'I did that'

(Maybe you would have had to see it...)

  19. Zimzone Says:

Ignore my last post... I'm an idiot.

  20. Shane Says:

Was a Republican, G A S P, being funny? Well who could have seen that coming?

  21. Krazny Says:

I gotta admit, this was pretty funny, not McCain being unhinged. Romney deserves it and more, after all this (Romney) was a guy who said he couldn't imagine anything worse then polygamy. Umm try the holocaust dumbass!!!

  22. Damian Says:

I can also see the humor in it. Romney recently joined the NRA after supporting gun control as Governor. He wanted to show the public that he was a manly man who had hunted, who drinks beer and farts like the rest of 'em.

Fact is, he probably hadn't and he certainly doesn't. He your Repub version of John Kerry, trying hard to be seen as a man of the people.

  23. AnswerMan Says:

Hey McCain, check out my 'varmint gun'. Not so small, heh?

  24. Kay Says:

With Morons like McJowls, Fooliani and Romknee : Is Ron Paul the candidate by default?

God help us is one the former 3 make it.

  25. joe Says:

That's not unhinged, that's funny. He tagged Romney on the hunter thing, the flip-flop thing, and the immigrant lawn care thing.

McNasty's got him dead to rights on all three.

  26. Eric Says:

Uh..Krazny, I believe he was referring to his personal family history which did not include the Holocaust.

  27. Krazny Says:

Eric, is the holocaust not worse then polygamy?

  28. Eric Says:

Do you read comrehensively? Romney was being interviewed about his family background and made the comment to Mike Wallace in regards to his family background which includes polygamy - not the holocaust.....lol. Sorry I had to type slowly for you.

  29. TripMaster Monkey Says:

Uh..Eric, please substantiate your claim that Romney was limiting the discussion to his personal family history when he claimed he couldn't "image anything more awful than polygamy".

  30. MaxPower Says:

"That’s the best thing I’ve ever heard McCain say.

I one hundred percent concur and cannot understand why McCain didn't use it in the debate.

  31. Rep = hyprocrisy Says:

    Flip-Flop King

    http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/archives/9111.html

Seems he has a bit of a memory lapse.

  32. Proud Dem Says:

In this case, I think McCain is the "varmint".

  33. Eric Says:

Guys: Don't know what to say. I posted the exact quote and just disappeared a few minutes later. It included 60 minutes and Mike Wallace interview in a very small portion but now it's gone? Are there rules about quoting certain things? Interesting editing/censoring TP

  34. Eric Says:

Isn't the so-called "national conversation" on the immigration bill just another debate between the center-right and far right?

  35. buck turgidson Says:

Don't know why you think that McCain is unhinged. Romney was caught with his landscaping company hiring illegal Guatemalans the same week he gave the ridiculous stories about "hunting varmint" and only days after "strengthening" his policy approach to immigration. McCain--unlike the rest of the Republican bunch--just put two and two together.

It may not be a second career, but McCain seems to have a better sense of humor than either the rest of the GOP candidates or what we've been giving him credit for. I've said before that there was absolutely nothing wrong with his "Bomb Bomb Iran" song attempt (there are both a Right-wing and a Left-wing parody "Bomb Bomb Iran" that uses the Beach Boys as the source), given that his audience was a bunch of Republican-voting veterans. And I don't see anything wrong here either. Besides, let the Republicans eat their own.

On the other hand, I think there should be a new breed of anti-Romney signs--Var-Mitt.
