SF Chronicle cites hate group leader as expert.»

As AMERICAblog notes, a story in yesterday’s San Francisco Chronicle on adoptions by same-sex couples quoted Paul Cameron, director of the Family Research Institute in Colorado, as advocating against such adoptions. But it leaves out that his organization is considered a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. He has also called for the “extermination of homosexuals” and tattooing AIDS patients in the face.

  2. squegeebooo Says:

Maybe cause they thought it would be obvious enough from the article:

“Any child that can be adopted into a married-mother-and-father family, that’s the gold standard,” Cameron said. “An orphanage would be the second choice, and then a single woman.”
If it walks like a bigot and talks like a bigot…

Also, why dosn’t the gay guy in the article mention having a single father home?
“I wouldn’t have cared if my adoptive parents were a married man and woman, two gay guys or a single woman”

  3. Roger_Roger Says:

It doesn’t take an “expert” to know that the best thing for a child is a father and a mother. A Male/Female duo should always be allowed to adopt over any other group or single person as other groups and solo people simply cannot provide the male/female connections children need. Now if we have to many child in need of a home, I have no problem allowing others to adopt. We simply need to keep the male/female duo’s in the front of the line.

Well, if we tatooed individuals with AIDS, i would know who to sleep with and who not to sleep with, right?

It is known that there is a sector of the homosexual community that gets a kick out of giving STDs to each other and others that are not aware they have AIDS.

I know this, I was President of the United States of America and the smartest person to ever set foot on the Oval Office rug.

Also, please my sycophant followers, let us not forget that we have an issue with Christians.

Family 2: Is very affluent. Has a wonderful paying job and can afford to give the adopted child anything and every thing he/she every wanted. Has money to spare and is often giving to charities. Only one wage earner is necessary.

Which one would you place the child in? If family 1 is the only male/female couple, what then? If family 2 is a female/female couple, then what? If either family has the love and the understanding to raise a child then either one would be fine. Granted family 1 will struggle, but are you going to give family 1 priority?

Proud Dem, my friend, my dear, dear proud democratic party member, the problem with your premise is that you assume that money is what make syou happy.

take it from me, I am rich, filthy rich, like my buddy kerry, and money doesn’t make you happy.

You don’t need money to create a family, to have a happy family.

You need a mommy and a daddy. You see my daddy was an abuser and then he left and look how screwed up I turned out to be.

Also it is well known, through studies, that children that come from a mother and father household turn out to be a lot more succesful and happier than children that came from other types of families.

Per biblical standards, the child should be placed with family one. Family two can be wealthy, but they’re not following biblical standards, and their ultimate ending will be hell. They shouldn’t be allowed to convince another being to commit sinful acts.

However, many of those males and females can’t parent, which is why there are so many adoptable children in the first place. Should we just leave those poor kids in the abusive, neglectful home of heterosexual couples or give them a chance to be happy and healthy with a homosexual couple or a single parent? If they’re growing up within a household that believes two individuals from the same gender should be able to show affection toward each other, they will consider this as a normal act. More than 50% of children within homosexual households become homosexuals.

  42. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) Says:

    From the American Psychological Association:

The primary difficulties facing children of lesbian, gay, and bisexual parents are associated with misconceptions about their parents that are held by society at large. Three areas of concern have been raised by those in the legal and social welfare systems about the impact a parent’s lesbian, gay, or bisexual orientation may have on children. These concerns include the influence of a lesbian, gay, or bisexual parent on a child’s gender identity, gender role conformity, and sexual orientation. The body of research on lesbian mothers is currently considerably larger than that on gay fathers. In her comprehensive review of the literature, Patterson (1996b) concluded that there was no evidence of gender identity difficulties among children of lesbian mothers. She also reported studies indicating that gender role behavior among children of lesbian mothers was within normal ranges. Furthermore, children of lesbian, gay, and bisexual parents appear to be no different than peers raised by heterosexual parents in their emotional development and their likelihood of becoming homosexual (Bailey, Bobrow, Wolfe, & Mikach, 1995; Golombok & Tasker, 1994).

Not matter how much I used and abused women, you people who claim to love and fight for women’s right, would vote for me again.

I am flattered, but I think you are pathetic, Shane.

  45. david Says:

Well, I’m not sure I’m convinced by your argument, roger_roger. Although a mother/father/child would be an ideal, we don’t live in an ideal world. And, as the story points out, there is a shortage of adoptive parents. I’m not sure why single parents aren’t an option, or are they? It would seem the only criteria would be ability to care for the child and to be a suitable match for that child’s needs. I don’t see gender orientation being a big issue here.

Daryll, I’m not sure which Christianity you are following. Paul didn’t want followers of Christ having sex at all. Marriage was his concession to the needs of the flesh. Not exactly the best recommendation for parenthood. Indeed, Jesus’ teachings are very much for adults. I suspect Christians can be good parents, but most of what advice there is in the Old Testament and is rather patriarchal. Thank goodness that Judaism as practised today seems to be matriarchal. It seems to me that the best Christian parents are those with a heavy dose of the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene.

I think, Daryll, you’ll find the Early Church did not have a consistent policy on either marriage or homosexuality. And I think you might benefit from reading this interview with the Dr Rev Cheri DiNovo: Does the Bible condemn homosexuality?

Actually, the “only begotten son” is a later formulation. What one can take from Luke is the idea that Mary was a single mom. She was pregnant before marriage and Joseph was not the father. Joseph drops from the picture, but Mary does not.

We could discuss Mary as a welfare mom. She went on to have other children. We may assume they were “legitimate” by Joseph while Jesus –the name is a Greek corruption of Joshua– was illegitimate. And I think that makes a more powerful statement of Loving the Stranger and the Outsider. No?

I caught this article on the Portland presentation by new head of the Department of the Interior earlier this week, and the lack of a byline, and the unsubstantiated nature of the claims Kempthorne made (and the Oregonian echoed) pissed me off enough to demand an explanation.

Kempthorne is a Bush crony, appointed to a position in the department that is chest-deep in the Abramoff casino corruption, and whose deputy sec’y, S. Griles, was convicted and sentenced for obstruction of justice

People should stop supporting this right-wing rag!!
    ————————-
Oregonian disinfo on US Sec’y of Interior - why no byline??

The story published today reeks of GOP propaganda!! Why not point out that Kempthorne is a Bush political appointee with an anti-conservation history as Governor of Idaho? There is a USA Today article (below) from the time of his appointment which has information that could have provided valuable context for the propaganda the Oregonian published as news. Should I do an op-ed and ridicule the Oregonian’s GOP bias?!

Yes, you can also read more about the Canadian Justice Dept study HERE. It’s a longer story with more background information and some personal stories.

The Canadian experience reveals that the fears of the Christian Right in America are unfounded. I suspect there’s a good deal of projection in their views on same-sex parenting.

    David, my dear, dear friend.

Canada is a joke, more than half of if is unpopulated.

You didn’t win WWI as you claimed, we did. A truce that was only achieved after Germany saw that if it kept on fighting it would lose. A truce, yes a truce that the British, French used to shove down the throat of the Germans, which led to WWII. Talk to your conquerors, the British, about WWII.

WWII, you hadn’t stopped squat when we joined. Yes, the British were quite brave in the Battle of Britain, but what did you exactly do in the Battle of Britain? It was an air Battle and it was this battle that stopped Hitler from conquering England.

How many beaches did the Canadians invade in Normandy? now compare that to the number of beaches that we invaded and how many of our brave soldiers died during the battle for europe. Also look at what weapons you and the British were using to fight Nazi Germany. That is right, over 80% of the weapons you used to fight Germans were American made. Oh, so sorry.

did you guys send one propeller to help the British fight the Battle of Britain?

Catholic hating? wow, you Canadians do hold a grudge, eh?

Sorry my friend, here in the USA we love all races and religions. Or so say my sycophant followers.

Canada needs the USA, it begs the USA to defend it. Canada would be nothing but a poor third world country without the USA.

and as for Columbus not landing in the USA, NO WAY! you guys learn that in school?

Anyway, keep on dancing about the war of 1812. I am sure Canada is happy about the war of 1812.

man that war of 1812, don’t you think it was great David. the war of 1812, fought over how many centuries ago? but geez, thank goodness the British came to your aid, that war of 1812.

I, President William Jefferson Clinton, prefer to travel to Mexico before I give American dollars to the Canadian economy.

Boy, President Clingon, you are one ignorant dumb f*ck. Over 100 Canadian pilots flew in the Battle of Britain. We trained your air force here in the Canadian West. And you don’t know squat about what happened in either World Wars, do you? The Canadians landed in Normandy at Juno Beach. And the Canadians penetrated further on that first day than any other Allied Force.

I suspect the real reason the America Right doesn’t like Same-sex marriage and oppose adoption rights for same-sex couples is because they live in this fantasy world where they’ve won all the wars single-handedly and everyone adores America and wants to be just like them. It’s Hollywood crap. There is no IDEAL FAMILY. Even the Holy Family of Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus was dysfunctional by normal standards. That is, a girl pregnant after extramarital sex –albeit she said it was ‘divine’– a step-father with a speech disorder, and a child that had to be raised in a cattle trough because the family couldn’t afford a home.

BTW, you still owe us compensation from the American Revolution. We know Americans never live up to their treaties. And Canada supplies the USA with more oil than the Middle East. Sheesh! Just another clueless Yankee pretending to be someone famous, aren’t you President Clingon? And you can’t even keep up the patter long enough to suspend disbelief.

His mother sat him on the opposite side of the room hoping the two would not meet and he made a bee-line for Her Majesty and introduced himself, “Hi, I’m the black sheep of my family. Who’s yours?” The Queen politely said, “None of your business.”

Of course, dear Clingon, you’d be better off if you still were under the British flag. If only those rotten French hadn’t won the Revolution for you.

I’m still confused why you want to pretend to be Bill in a thread on same-sex adoption? I take it your namesake approves of the idea. Does that mean you, Clingon, approve as well? Or did you take on this persona because the first thing that pops into your wee mind when you hear “sex” is Bill. Funny, isn’t it? Bill is still married to Hillary, but Newt and Rudy have six wives between them as well as numerous mistresses. And Rudy’s children aren’t speaking to him. I suppose they would if they were adopted.

All of you who think that a hetero drug-crazed hippie couple should just naturally receive a child are .

Those you who think a gay couple whose marriage is 6 minutes old and will last two months should receive a child for social justice are .
