Bush official: Falwell was administration’s ‘great friend.’
Tim Goeglein, the president’s liaison to religious conservatives, spoke yesterday at the late Rev. Jerry Falwell’s funeral, calling him “a great friend of this administration.” He added that in a conversation a month ago, Falwell said he was thankful for “being able to train ‘a new generation’ of Christian conservatives, many of whom now work in the Bush administration.”

Falwell was a bigot. I do not respect bigots even when they die. The fact that he mobilized the religious fundies to get involved in politics did not make him a great man. Religious fundamentalism and politics simply should not be mixed. See: the Taliban.

When Sadaam died for having actually committed horrific crimes against many, many thousands of people, all of you just wanted to insult the Bush administration for his “human rights”. Falwell didn’t physically hurt anybody, yet all of you have been on on a extreme defensive on him as if he was worse than Sadaam.
Heck, even a liberal author of my local newspaper had to admit that Falwell was a good man, against the quacks of the media.
Falwell had achieved more good in his life than you burger-slinging people will achieve in three lifetimes. His legacy should be the highly successful and well-versed Liberty University, not your partisan squabbling against him.

You are entitled to hold that opinion. Others of us choose to disagree. My opinion is that he was a vicious, narrow-minded, intolerant and power-hungry bigot.
The other difference between you and I is that I believe you have a right not only to hold that opinion but to express it. You, on the other hand, wander over here and criticize people for expressing an opinion you do not hold, as though the very expression of that opinion was wicked. It’s a mindset remarkably in tune with people like Falwell and this administration.

Your premise is flawed from its inception, and is nothing more than a wishful assertion. Jesus said these words in Matthew 22:37-40
