Tim Goeglein, the president’s liaison to religious conservatives, spoke yesterday at the late Rev. Jerry Falwell’s funeral, calling him “a great friend of this administration.” He added that in a conversation a month ago, Falwell said he was thankful for “being able to train ‘a new generation’ of Christian conservatives, many of whom now work in the Bush administration.”
I noticed the President spent a lot of time at the funeral of his “great friend.”
May 23rd, 2007 at 9:53 amYes Bush lost a sinister friend Jerry Falwell, but he still has Pat Robertson and James Dobson to give him comfort > lol.

Yup. There are many “new conservative Christians” in GDumbya’s administration. They’re incompetent but they’re “new conservative Christians.

May 23rd, 2007 at 9:58 amThis is no surprise…by politically mobilizing the Fundies, Falwell was an immense asset to the Conservative (and later, NeoConservative) movements. Who better to support an irrational administration than Fundies? They’re well acquainted with irrationality.

It’s not about Falwell, it’s about the hypocrisy of this administration, as per usual.
So nice of the King to attend his great friend’s funeral…..
May 23rd, 2007 at 10:10 am#10 – simple… Falwell was/is an enemy of free thought. An enemy of progress. His wack-job ideals corrupted America as we knew it and has been able to, in the past 25 years or so, mold our society into his “value centered” agenda… ie “the gays are responsible for 9/11 etc etc ad nauseum”
The above story shouldn’t be a suprise… Falwell screwed up our country and so has lil’ bush.
It’s like comparing turds to turds.

Unless it’s Ronald Reagan apparently. They fall all over themselves to invoke his name whenever possible.
May 23rd, 2007 at 10:20 amThat Falwell blamed Gays and Lesbians for the attacks of 9-11 is reason enough to condemn his soul to the Seventh Circle of Hell for all eternity. That single act of bigotry, homophobia, and hate-mongering is proof of what a morally twisted, venal, corrupt…whatever other pejorative adjectives one can think of insert here, person Falwell was. His ilk are well represented in American culture in the literary work Elmer Gantry. Too bad the media have been unable to recall that fine work and air it out for this new generation of opiated fools called Conservative Christians!

May 23rd, 2007 at 10:36 amHey, if Bush the Commander Guy was such a fan of Falwell, why didn’t he make a personal appearance? After all, he had nothing else on his agenda. And, let’s not forget, the Commander Guy did make an appearance on American Idol, so why not Mr. Falwell’s funeral?
To get an idea of what the fundies are teaching their children, rent the movie “Jesus Camp.”
Frickin’ unbelievable….
May 23rd, 2007 at 10:40 amI tend to agree with Christopher Hitchens on Falwell: he committed treason by stating that America deserved to be attacked on 9/11 because of abortion and homosexuality.
Falwell was a bigot. I do not respect bigots even when they die. The fact that he mobilized the religious fundies to get involved in politics did not make him a great man. Religious fundamentalism and politics simply should not be mixed. See: the Taliban.

Wow, you’re exceptionally vague, aren’t you. Don’t exploit this “first amendment” as a cover. You, along with others at this site know exactly the wrong you are doing. Who said “discussion of any deceased person” was wrong? How did you paste those words together? And you think I’m idiotic?
You, along with others at this site, have some sassy, creative ways of painting yourself as the victim despite the reality that you’re all the aggressors. Poor babies…
You can’t use the First amendment as a cover when someone seeks to hold you accountable for your clear disrespect.
And Zooey,
It’s not about Falwell? You’re not much a past-post reader, are you? The administration actually hasn’t come up very many times in threads since Rev. Falwell’s death. “Hypocrisy of this Administration.” Nice spin.
When Sadaam died for having actually committed horrific crimes against many, many thousands of people, all of you just wanted to insult the Bush administration for his “human rights”. Falwell didn’t physically hurt anybody, yet all of you have been on on a extreme defensive on him as if he was worse than Sadaam.
Heck, even a liberal author of my local newspaper had to admit that Falwell was a good man, against the quacks of the media.
Falwell had achieved more good in his life than you burger-slinging people will achieve in three lifetimes. His legacy should be the highly successful and well-versed Liberty University, not your partisan squabbling against him.

FALWELL BLAMED GAYS AND LESBIAN AMERICANS FOR THE 9-11 ATTACKS. You are entitled to hold that opinion. Others of us choose to disagree. My opinion is that he was a vicious, narrow-minded, intolerant and power-hungry bigot.
The other difference between you and I is that I believe you have a right not only to hold that opinion but to express it. You, on the other hand, wander over here and criticize people for expressing an opinion you do not hold, as though the very expression of that opinion was wicked. It’s a mindset remarkably in tune with people like Falwell and this administration.

And what, exactly, is that? Before you answer, take a good long look at the lede above, and tell me how it’s “disrespectful” to Falwell.
You did, by castigating TP for “stomping on the man’s casket”, even though there was NOTHING disrespectful whatsoever in the lede.

Your premise is flawed from its inception, and is nothing more than a wishful assertion. Jesus said these words in Matthew 22:37-40
37Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[b] 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[c] 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Now contrast that with Satanism’s greatest commandment according to Anton LeVay its former high priest…
>Do what thou wilt.
In other words, whatever you want to do–do it. If it feels good–do it.
Aside from Satanists, only one other group of people embrace this ideology, and it’s liberals.
Conservatives (if they’re Christians) embrace the teachings of Christ, which was obedience to God, and morality. The fact that you smuggly assert that this somehow is a liberal characteristic is intellectual dishonesty in the highest degree. Those who hold to this claim are only attempting to pull the rug out from under Conservative Christians feet–nothing more. You’ve essentially ‘earned’ this warning in Isaiah 5:20
