“Staffers at McClatchy’s Washington, D.C., Bureau — one of the few major news outlets skeptical of intelligence reports during the run-up to the war in Iraq — claims it is now being punished for that coverage.”
Bureau Chief John Walcott and current and former McClatchy Pentagon correspondents say they have not been allowed on the Defense Secretary’s plane for at least three years, claiming the news company is being retaliated against for its reporting. [...]
Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman called such assertions “absurd,” adding, “There is no basis of fact for that allegation. It is not true. There are always more people who would like to travel with the secretary than seats available.”
PBS’ Bill Moyers recently highlighted McClatchy’s excellent pre-war journalism. Watch it HERE.
so, no problem… just make sure that, at the very next opportunity, mcclatchy gets a seat on the plane…
And, yes, I DO take it personally

May 23rd, 2007 at 11:28 ami think “Truth..LOL” is the motto of the entire repub party, especially the Justice Department. and Scooter Libby.
May 23rd, 2007 at 11:41 amYou’d think that they could find room for the reporters that got the story right, though…
Except that they’re trying to suppress the truth…
Sad really.
May 23rd, 2007 at 11:42 amThis story reminds me of the spoiled little kid who thinks he is good at sports – but he isn’t. Because he gets most of what he wants, he insists on playing quarterback even though he is lousy at it. After trying and trying to be a ‘player’, he gets upset that nobody is letting him play quarterback, so the spoiled kid grabs his football and goes home. He doesn’t want to listen to reason, he doesn’t want to compromise – he just wants what he wants. Why does McClatchy news hate America?

Agreed. The administration should be ashamed of themselves for this conduct.

I’d like to see documentation which shows that in the last three years they were allowed on board. There has to be a passenger manifest somewhere. Sure there are always more people who would like to travel with the secretary than seats available but that doesn’t explain, if in fact it is true (please provide sources), why they have not been allowed on at all in three years. Their time to travel would’ve certainly come around.

Your analogy make no sense whatsoever. You must have been the shunned quarterback.

May 23rd, 2007 at 11:58 amBill Moyers’ is as “unbiased” as McClatchey….If I wanted everyone to know secret plans for prosecuting a war, I would call McClatchey!!

My pointy is apt if you listen with an open mind – and don’t consider bush an imperial king. If not, nothing will make sense to you. I didn’t speak of the Bill of Rights. Why you threw that in there – I don’t know (or care). If you are aware of recent current events regading our ‘commander guy’, then you know your point of hearing both sides is laughable. Simply laughable. Compromise means doing what bush wants – which is no compromise (such as our guy wanting to play quarterback – but he doesn’t have the skills). Rather than try to work around and find common ground – Bush simply either leaves the game, or changes the rules to suit himself. Not that is any of your business, but I did get through college on a football scholarship playing DB.
May 23rd, 2007 at 12:44 pmHey, vicious weenus, if you want everyone to know secret plans for prostituting a war, call your Repug buds. Or just wait until the congressional hearings!
May 23rd, 2007 at 1:13 pmSo what organizations get to travel on the plane?
May 23rd, 2007 at 1:28 pmSince we pay for that plane can we choose which reporters are allowed on? I think we should make it mandatory that one reporter from McClatchy trails every decision maker we have in governemnt since they seem to be the only ones interested in what is really going on.
I’d recommend sending Samantha Bee or John Oliver too since they’re every bit as legitimate as any of the MSM’s government stenographers.
May 23rd, 2007 at 4:04 pmI guess you could call it segregation of the truth.

May 23rd, 2007 at 11:20 pmMcClatchy has had some wonderful stories. TPM Muckraker quotes often. One site said to give McClatchy some hits, so visit their site – also called RealCities newspapers.
