    the real surge

  2. Tom says:

Hmmmm. How’s that surge going for ya, GDumbya?

I sure wish we had some legislators with enough backbone to take GDumbya’s weekly allowance away and tell him it was time for him to quit “playing war”. Absolutely nothing good is coming out of his lunacy.

  3. Bluedog49 says:

Will Friedman ever extract his head from his ass and admit that he has been wrong all along about Iraq?

    Stupid f*ck Repukes!

Open your eyes, you just might learn something:

The SURGE has created more deaths of US soldiers than re-deployment!!!!!

You guys are amazingly close to 100% wrong on anything/everything to do with Iraq.

    Stupid is as stupid IS.

With every new death, I simmer a little more. I know hate is not a good thing, but I slip closer and closer to the emotion as I think of the families, children whose dad or mom isn’t ever going to come home.

Someone in the Green Zone leaked the following memo, which shows that US personnel are now actually facing difficulties in getting food by convoy up from Kuwait. They avoid local food in the Baghdad region because of the danger guerrillas will poison it.

‘Due to a theater-wide delay in food delivery, menu selections will be limited for the near future. While every effort will be made to provide balanced meals, it may not be possible to offer the dishes you are used to seeing at each meal. Fresh fruits and salad bar items will also be severely limited or unavailable.

We’ll be “celebrating” when we finally have this junta pried out of office and up against a wall with all of their enablers, supporters, and apologists (that includes you, BTW…).

One of these days 100% of Iraqi population are going to feel its ok to kill American soilders and then we will be leaving with no dignity.

    —————————

The situation is quite obviously very complicated, but if one must opt for a simplistic analysis it should be this: Iraqi Nationalism has proved more resilient than the neocons envisioned.

    the heathen sez:

Not true. While opium has been moved from Afghanistan through Iran and Iraq to the lucrative markets in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf for a while now, actual cultivation of poppies in Iraq is a very recent event.

LONDON, May 23 (KUNA) — Farmers in southern Iraq have started to grow opium poppies in their fields for the first time, sparking fears that Iraq might become a serious drugs producer along the lines of Afghanistan, it was revealed here Wednesday.
Rice farmers along the Euphrates, to the west of the city of Diwaniya, south of Baghdad, have stopped cultivating rice, for which the area is famous, and are instead planting poppies, Iraqi sources familiar with the area told The Independent newspaper.
The shift to opium cultivation is still in its early stages but there is little the Iraqi Government can do about it because rival Shia militias and their surrogates in the security forces control Diwaniya and its neighbourhood.
There have been bloody clashes between militiamen, police, Iraqi army and US forces in the city over the past two months, the paper said.
The shift to opium production is taking place in the well-irrigated land west and south of Diwaniya around the towns of Ash Shamiyah, al Ghammas and Ash Shinafiyah.
The farmers are said to be having problems in growing the poppies because of the intense heat and high humidity.
It is too dangerous for foreign journalists to visit Diwaniya, but the start of opium poppy cultivation is attested by two students from there and a source in Basra familiar with the Iraqi drugs trade.
Drug smugglers have for long used Iraq as a transit point for heroin, produced from opium in laboratories in Afghanistan, being sent through Iran to rich markets in the area, The Independent added.

    LISTEN IM NOT SUPRISED BECAUSE

1/ “These damned Apaches daily fire their flash bombs, burning vast swathes of land,” Abu Mohammad, who owns a farmland near the northern city of Mosul, The bombs have also scorched thousands of date palms spreading along the riverbeds of the Tigris and the Euphrates, He said the fireballs, as Iraqis call them, have burnt and razed thousands of donums of malt and wheat in his Rabiea village.

2/ American soldiers have forbidden Iraqi farmers to grow anything unless they buy the seed containing terminator genes (to make the seed sterile) from American companies such as Monsanto.

Tobey, I’d also be interested in seeing a cite for that information. That is pure eco-terrorism…forcing a people to become dependent upon a company for their seed stock.

Thanks. Very disturbing…..loss of confidence seems epidemic. Maybe there is a lack of confidence that these commanders will toe the line in any possible upcoming attack…?

You folks should hear the telephone calls that I get in the middle of the night from Military mothers, wifes, fathers, and teens. Most people here on the web are totally clueless relative to the S U F F E R I N G of these families. The pure hell that they are going through. I serve as an ear to them as a military mom, the soldier stories are chilling.

Food SHORTAGE has been an on-going problem for some bases more than others. I have noted Marines are highly effected. 1 MRE a day per my neighbors kid. He is now on his way back from Iraq. Over half his deployment he ate only 1 MRE a day. No lie, that was it.
