Rove, Fielding pay ‘mysterious’ visit to Capitol.

“Senior White House aide Karl Rove and White House Counsel Fred Fielding were just spotted leaving a meeting room just off the Senate floor in the Capitol. But neither gave a reason for their trip to the Hill. Minutes later, Iraq War ‘Czar’ Lt. Gen Douglas Lute was also spotted leaving the Capitol. When asked what brought him down Pennsylvania Avenue, Rove remained mum, simply smiling and greeting the staffers who quickly surrounded him. ‘Something big must be happening‘ a startled Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) said as he watched Rove walk out the building.”

Someone help me out….Has any other President lost two consecutive wars?

  3. unbelievable says:

No one is going to do anything anyway… obviously.

After 6.5 years of this type of corruption, with no consequences whatsoever, is anyone surprised they are this blatant?

  4. JPark says:

Your Conscience. Not sure. Depends on whether you believe Cambodia was a seperate war from Vietnam.

Rove, the political operative, Fielding, the White House Counsel, and Lute, the “War Czar?” What business could those three have together? Something immoral, I am sure.

  8. Tom3 says:

Rove was there to give blowjobs to get support for his failed war in Iraq. Fielding too. These Repukes are all closet cases and LOVE the cock.

  9. Tom3 says:

Rove was playing the Skin Lute.

  10. HeckuvahJob Brownie says:

No one can say anything for sure except that, of course, Rove wanted you to know that the meeting occurred and that he was meeting with people at the Capitol.

Now for speculation… Rove is loyal to the party, even if it means bringing down a president.

Wait, weren’t they supposed to do this late Friday afternoon on a getaway 3-day holiday weekend?

  14. Angry One says:

Among the least surprising developments arising from Monica Goodling’s appearance before the House Judiciary Committee was the reflexive use of the “criminalization of politics” defense. Not by the witness, that is, but by Republican members of the committee themselves. That is to be expected. After all, whether the scandal involves Tom Delay, the outing of Valerie Plame, Jack Abramoff, or the U.S. attorneys purge, we can always count on the GOP to recast its rampant criminality as mere political disagreement.

    For the details, see:
    “GOP Politicizing Crime – Again.”

  15. Greg says:

Something is seriously wrong… and Bush is calling in the top brass to put a spin on whatever it is… simple.

Now.. what could be going on… couldn’t have anything to do with the 2 carrier fleets off of Iran’s coast, could it?

  16. angryvietnamvet says:

In the LEAD, I believe you meant to refer to Fred Fielding as the White House Counsel, not the WH COUNCIL…

  17. Tom3 says:

I am visualizing Karl Rove with a huge bag with a $ on it.

If we still had the rule of law in this country, Rove would be in jail right now for treason and fixing elections.

  18. RedPretzel says:

Yay! We’re going to war with Iran!

    Praise jebus!

  19. Tom3 says:

Chimpy has a hardon for Iran.

Just like he had a hardon for Saddam.

We will attack Iran before 2009.

And when the terrorists counterattack, Chimpy will declare martial law and cancel the elections. Congress will be a puppet rubberstamp.

Welcome to the New World Order.

Rove, Fielding, Lute… Preparing to bomb Iran.

  21. Tom3 says:

Criminalization of politics only happens when the politicians act like common criminals.

  22. JG says:

The only thing I feel good about today is that my Senator and Representative both voted no on the war funding bill, and then a bird shit on the President as he stood in front of the microphone in the Rose Garden.

  23. JG says:

Ummm, just thought of something. What if the Dems voted for this bill – not as folding – but in a show of ’support’ for the troops, but then they quietly let Bush know they now finally had enough on him, on Cheney, on Rove and Gonzales to impeach them all and charge them with criminal charges. I think I will just picture that in my mind tonight as I drift off to sleep..

  24. Tom3 says:

Maybe Karl forgot to give Boner his bribe and thats why Boner was crying.

  25. JPark says:

JG, that is a nice thought but it doesn’t pass the smell test. If they start showing some sack maybe I will come around to that but so far they have done absolutely nothing. Impeachment is off the table, you know.

  26. Tom3 says:

Maybe the Dems know that the Iraqi Parliament is about to vote for Chimpy leaving Iraq.

It still looks like they wussed out.

  27. Tom3 says:

If the Dems are willing to cave in on Iraq…

what else are they willing to cave on?

Habeus Corpus? The Bill of Rights?

The Environment? The Rule of Law?

    Damn.

My guess is that the meeting has something to do with this story ad the fact that 2 carrier groups have just arrived in the Persian Gulf…

    http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Report_Cheney_aide_clearing_path_to_0524.html

A report published today reveals a growing game of tug-of-war between President Bush and his No. 2 regarding the US approach towards Iran.

Vice President Dick Cheney believes the US should not be pursuing a diplomatic path with Iran, and a senior aide to the vice president has been meeting with national security think tanks and consultants in Washington to “help establish the policy and political pathway to bombing Iran,” Steve Clemons reported Thursday on his blog, The Washington Note.

Cheney is the person in the Bush administration who most desires a “hot conflict” with Iran and believes the administrations pursuit of diplomacy, led by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, is a mistake, Clemons reports.

The Cheney aide, who has met with policy hands of the American Enterprise Institute along with other groups, “has stated to several Washington insiders that Cheney is planning to deploy an ‘end run strategy’ around the President if he and his team lose the policy argument,” according to Clemons.

Cheney’s team wants to work with Israel, nudging the country at some key moment to mount a small-scale attack on the suspected site of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, which could lead to an Iranian counter attack on US forces stationed in the Persian Gulf, Clemons reports.

The vice president has in recent weeks been ramping up his rhetoric against Iran. Earlier this month, he spoke aboard a US aircraft carrier just 150 miles of Iran’s coast to warn the country against continuing to pursue a nuclear weapons program.

My guess is that Israel will soon mount an attack on several Iranian Nuclear sites. I’m also guessing that Cheney’s team is hoping that this will bring on a “retaliatory” attack from Iranian forces. This will in turn act as a justification for mounting a full scale attack, against Iran, by US forces.

I think I’m not alone in saying that Rove can suck it.

  31. KEVIN SCHMIDT, STERLING VA says:

How much war profiteering booty did it take to pay off the Dems in the Senate tonight, Karl?

Now that the Democrats in Congress have proven themselves to be just as corrupt as the enabling Republicans, it is time for WE THE PEOPLE to exercise our Constitutional rights to assemble in Washington, D.C. and in particular in front of and around the White House, Congressional buildings, the Supreme Court and the Pentagon.

We have the right to assemble and indefinitely occupy our government buildings, shut them down, and order our representatives in the government and the military to end the illegal occupation in Iraq.

If we do not march on D.C. soon, then WE THE PEOPLE will own the war too!

This holiday weekend looks like a very good time to start our peaceful assembly and occupation to show them that they are not the boss of us, we are the boss of them!

  32. JPark says:

ptf, Rove has sucked it. I am guessing Jeff Gannon’s services weren’t for Bush.

  33. Zooey says:

    TP,

    Got anymore birdshit threads?

  34. kasinca says:

KKKarl Rove is not an elected official and his position of chief thug in the crime family does not have anything to do with Iran. This is about the missing emails, discussions without being sworn in or something of that sort. It was revealed yesterday that KKKarl Rove uses caging (a felony, a go to jail felony) to fix elections. That was clearly stated by Monica (Valley Girl) Goodling. Who would Jesus Cheat? KKK is covering his fat pigs ass for another crime just like he did in the Valerie Plame case.

  35. JPark says:

Zoo, it has been a bad day for democracy. Don’t blame TP.

  36. DM says:

#23 ~ I really like that thought, especially for a Friday release… but all signs point to them informing Congress that they’re blowing the holy sh*t out of Iran this weekend.

  37. Marie says:

Well, tomorrow is Friday, the day before a long holiday weekend — what better time to scheme without scrutiny?
Usually they drop bad news on a weekend like this — and that may happen anyway, but if their desire is to accomplish something illegal, what better time?

Yeah, I noticed that too. I had to wonder if someone(s) were crashing the site on purpose.

  41. had enough says:

Suppose they are having a chat about blowing up Iran on Memorial Day Weekend?

A caller on Malloy’s show commented on the bill/vote today – said he heard a provision is in the bill stating if and when Iraq wants us out we leave. Could this be true?

  42. Jay Randal says:

TP has been very weird this morning. Earlier I came on and all the threads and posts were gone from 1:00 PM Thursday to 11:30 PM. Then I came back 15 minutes later and they all came back. Next I posted a couple comments, then the site crashed. When I got back on my posts had vanished or were deleted.

Now that Congress capitulated to Bush, he has decided to get revenge on progressives who oppose him. Never cave to a bully, because it makes them meaner and more dangerous.

What would War ‘Czar’ Lt. Gen Douglas have to do with the emails?

And while we’re on the subject of “missing” emails, Greg Palast claims to have intercepted 500 of these emails, 50 of which he says clearly describe criminal conduct…

    http://www.gregpalast.com/amy-goodman-and-greg-palast-moms-day-broadcast/

Now why isn’t anybody, including TP, running this story?

  44. BottomBoy says:

I’m not that close to Mr. Rove’s office, but I suspect this is about the DoJ and the presence of Lt. Gen Douglas is just smokescreen.

  45. BottomBoy says:

#41: Heh. Yeah. It’s the President’s secret task force.

No. Really. Get a grip. You bloggers – just like the general public – are irrelevant as far as the big picture is concerned.

  46. BottomBoy says:

#44: Those “intercepted” mails are the ones that were mistakenly sent to a bogus WH site and they’ve been in public since early this year. There’s nothing new in them and Mr. Palast is just cashing in.

    re: “criminalization of politics”

    What’s the antidote?

    2) “No, collaring Con-cons”

    3) “No, protecting the Constitution”

    4) “No, exposing Beltway Bandits”

    5) “No, Law & Order does The Ruling Class”

You gotta love the WH press questioning Shrub’s credibility for all to see on the WH lawn yesterday; Shrub resorting to veiled threats against the journalist’s children. How low can you go chickenhawk.

  51. Candyce says:

It’s not clear to me that the 3 were together necessarily. WH Counsel and Rove, maybe it’s about the emails or Lurita. Lute is just wandering around trying to find an office and figure out what he’s supposed to be doing.

  52. golux says:

Is there actually any truth to this story? So far, the only site that is reporting it is Politico.

  53. Patrick McGill says:

I saw it. I was there last night at around 6 PM. Rove was with Felding right outside the Senate getting into his car.

There weird thing is. 20 seconds later I saw Hillary Clinton.

  56. dloberk says:

I’ll toss my cynicism and paranoia to the wind on this one and assume Rover and the WH Counsel were meeting in private re the infamous e-mails and that the Czar was there for another purpose although coincidences with this gang need to be taken seriously…

  57. Greg Forest says:

Come on you guys, give Karl a break. I’m sure he was there to “reach across the aisle,” and apologize to the new Congress for being such a meanie. Just announced – GOP is looking for a “White House Czar.”
