    Looks better HERE:

    Johnathan Alter on Countdown…

    …brilliantly responded to Keith’s question…

…about why Bushiva signed the supplemental in private…

    Alter said:

“Perhaps because he knew he was signing the death warrants of many of the troops.”

    …now WHY couldn’t the Democratic leadership…

…have FRAMED the funding debate that way?

…Do the Democrats REALLY want to win the WH?

…or is the ship taking on so much water…

    …its sinking is unavoidable?

  2. stopthecons says:

here we go again. more endless war for endless peace..

both parties authorized the invasion en masse, and they continue to join together to overwhelmingly approve billions more dollars to continue the killing.

The war needs to end now. Not one more dime to kill people. Sadly, though, the politicians don’t want to do that right thing.

“With the congress showing the good sense to send me this bill, I earned capital, political capital, and now I intend to spend it. It is my style.”

Don’t think bush and rove won’t spin it this way.

I am ashamed of the Democrats for not doing the right thing and standing up to Bush. All who voted for this bullshit bill have condemned thousands of Americans & Iraqis to death and dismemberment. May God reward them according to their merits.

  10. Patrick says:

I’d wager at LEAST a quarter of that $100B is going to contractors like Haliburton. We have war profiteers in the WH…the real goal for Chimp and Shooter is the oil though.

  11. Badger says:

When this war in Iraq is over, there will be a wall somewhere with the names of those who have paid the ultimate price. With Bush’s signature….that wall just got longer.

  12. John Gilpins says:

Has George W. Bush appeared on the PRICE IS RIGHT–the game show? I bet he has.

No doubt one of the plinko chips hit him on the head.

Whatever this war is going to cost, THE PRICE IS N-O-T RIGHT.

This war is a WHEEL OF FORTUNE for Bush’s friends.

  13. mongo says:

“…the real goal for Chimp and Shooter is the oil though.

    Comment by Patrick”

I think their real goal at this point is to run out the clock on their embarrassment of an administration so when iraq *really* shits the bed they can simply say: “See? Not on my watch…”

  14. katy says:

“Bush signed the bill into law at the Camp David presidential retreat, where he is spending part of the Memorial Day weekend.”

the irony just keeps on keepin’ on…

  15. shane says:

How nice for him that he didn’t have to delay his holiday weekend with the stressful signing of a piece of paper. I’m sure he won’t waste another moment of his time worrying about the troops. He got his money, his friends will get their oil, life is good in Bush world.

  16. Jimbo DUDE says:

I’M SAYING WE START AT THE HIGHEST HOUSE OF THE LAND AND ANY FAST SMOOTH TALKING SLICKSTER SELLING OUT THIS COUNTRY STRAIGHT TO

  18. Briseadh na Faire says:

Bush gets the credit for this one. He got his funding, with no strings whatsoever; just what he wanted. When push came to shove, the Democrats folded.

Everyone who enlists signs their own death warrant. This war is guaranteed now until after the 2008 elections. And it will expand. There is no stopping Bush now. Democrats lack the courage. And the Republicans? They’re going to ride this war into electoral victory in 2008. The ballots that count, have already been counted.

  19. Joneses says:

Next step IRAN. This adminstration is bent on war and it’s not because of democracy, it’s profits, stupid.

Hell yes I’m pissed at the Dems!

  20. Sharon says:

Correct BnF, The die is cast and the fall out that is coming is huge..The dem’s will not win in 2008 unless they accomplish something realy big like impeachment, stoping the war, bla, bla, bla.. We all know that will not happen..We will be lucky to be able to post by the time the election come’s…Blessings

  21. Publicus says:

Probably included a signing statement to block the increase in the minimum wage…

  22. John Gilpins says:

“When this war in Iraq is over, there will be a wall somewhere with the names of those who have paid the ultimate price. With Bush’s signature…that wall just got longer.

    I sure hope so!!!!!

Let’s don’t build this wall in Washington D. C. No! No!

Let’s build this wall in Houston, Texas.

Let’s build this wall in the MEMORIAL area of Houston as a MEMORIAL. The Memorial area of Houston is one of the areas where rich Republicans live. Many of these rich Republicans fully support George W. Bush. Many of these rich Republicans work for oil companies. Gosh, even a few of these rich Republicans have the surname: BUSH.

  23. Jay Randal says:

So Bush signed the bill at Camp David away from the press? He did not surround himself with traitor GOPer Senators like John McCain to sign it?

  24. JPark says:

My question is…Why is all war funding emergency funding? Why is it not a part of the budget. By the way, it is kinda rhetorical. I know why.

  25. davidual says:

Where were the republicans to vote this bill down? Where were the republicans when democrats tried to override Mr. Bush’s veto on May 4th?

This bill was in all actuality a power play by the republicans to defeat the democrats. They knew democrats did not have enough votes for the time limits, so republicans staged this farce as way of gaining a little political ground that they lost last November.

This bill is nothing more than the return of the republican rubber stamp congress. Is legislating solely the task of the majority party? No, it isn’t. When Mr. Bush torpedoed the first bill on May first, in grandiose style I might add, where were the republicans to help override his veto?

I do not blame the democrats. I put the blame squarely on the republican party that wanted to embarrass the democrats by forcing them to sign off on a ‘no time limit’ legislation, and thus seemingly rescind their 2006 campaign promise to end this occupation.

Democrats must not take the bait. Solidarity is most important to bring this occupation to an end.

  26. Coffins draped with flags says:

And guess what, none of that money is going to better equip our troops. This bill is dishonest. It is not a support the troops bill. It is a support Halliburton and support the Iraqi government’s rebuiliding of Iraq (and we all know where the Iraqi money goes).

  27. unbelievable says:

“Democrats must not take the bait. Solidarity is most important to bring this occupation to an end.
    Comment by davidual — May 26, 2007 @ 1:41 am”

As my inital blinding frustration turns to contemplation, I think you have a valid point here. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t rebuke the Democrats for folding, but we should have them share the spotlight with the Republican hand in this debacle. It isn’t theirs alone.

  28. Coffins draped with flags says:

I wrote to my Senator and Congressman (both Democrats) and told them that there is no money in my bank account to help with their re-election campaigns. The Iraq war has bankrupted my savings so there is nothing left for their re-election campaign.

  29. Uncle Ho says:

Democrats who caved-in to Bush on this bill are not profiles in courage.

  30. HANNIPAL says:

    Thank you Congress
may everyone sayed Yea to this burn in hellfire
