Justice Dept. now can’t fill U.S. attorney spots.

“The Bush administration’s decision to fire nine U.S. attorneys last year has created a new problem for the White House: The controversy appears to be discouraging applications for some of the 22 prosecutor posts that President Bush needs to fill.”

Of the nation’s 93 U.S. attorneys, 22 are serving without Senate confirmation as interim or acting prosecutors. They represent districts in Alaska, Arizona, California, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, West Virginia and Washington.

White House spokesman Tony Fratto said the administration is committed to nominating candidates for all 22 open positions, but so far the administration has submitted only four nominees.

In Florida, the panel that’s evaluating candidates and making recommendations to the White House has received only two applicants for the vacancy left by U.S. Attorney Paul Perez in Tampa – even after it extended the May 3 deadline to apply.

It seems that Donald Trump is vetting the choices. Would anyone be willing to accept a job on those terms? By the way, Donald, you’re fired.

They just need to go back to Regent University; I’m sure there are plenty of otherwise unemployable law graduates looking for work.

Why isn’t Arkansas on that list??????? Do they consider Griffin permanent?

  7. TripMaster Monkey says:

How exactly is this a problem for the White House?

After all, they don’t really want to put qualified permanent replacements in these positions…they’d much rather leave in the permanent “interim” political shill appointees.

  8. good grief, charlie brown says:

Of course not. Who, in their right mind, would want that on their resume?
That, plus the fear of being dumped by the whim of a political hack.

Wait a minute. How can he have 22 acting US Attorneys who have not been confirmed by the senate? Did he make 22 appointments after the Patriot Act was passed? Now I”m really confused.

No matter what the issue, GDumbya and his Keystone Kops manage to bungle it. I really don’t think these morons could organize a two-car funeral let alone prosecute a successful war and occupation in a Middle Eastern country.

I wouldn’t even trust any of them to babysit my kids.

This predicament is baffling to me. In fact, it’s kind of a no-BRAINER.

Here’s what the Bush administration is looking for:

    1. A GPA between 1.7 and 2.2.

    2. High school, not college.

    3. Having in your possession, a huge picture of Jesus so you can hang it in your office.

    4. Having in your possession, a huge picture of George W. Bush so you can hang it in your office.

    5. Having at least one DUI arrest.

    6. Political contributions to the Bush administration amounting to at least $100,000. That’s the bare minimum.

    7. A bare/bald head. The boss may like to rub it.

    8. Access to a “beard” for parties and GOP functions. No, that’s not facial hair!

    9. Being a “yes man.”

    10. Flunking a bar exam at least once.

I’ve been avoiding troll droppings, so I skipped to the end. Thank goodness I’m having a “great mind” moment with an actual great mind.

  26. Jay Randal says:

Just leave the positions vacant till Bush is gone from the White House!

  27. JPark says:

Jay, you are right. Clinton left a whole bunch of positions open because the Republicans wouldn’t pass his nominees.

  28. Briseadh na Faire says:

    Maybe M!ghty Aphrod!te will apply.

I commented on her earlier, but spelled her name properly and TP is going out of their way to protect her from any warranted criticism. But, after all, she’s a defense attorney, with a successful practice, in one of the areas targeted for a Loyal Bushie.

And, she doesn’t know what civil rights were violated in the Padilla case. A perfect candidate for an Attorney General!

  29. JPark says:

“But, after all, she’s a defense attorney, with a successful practice, in one of the areas targeted for a Loyal Bushie.”

What area is that? Sussex? Sydney? Montreal?

  30. JPark says:

I am actually pretty sure Tranny is from Pretoria, South Africa.

  31. Briseadh na Faire says:

    JPark, she claims San Diego.

  32. JPark says:

I know, BnF. She lies. San Diegoans don’t spell things with the extra u. Labour, behaviour, or harbour. Or switching the r and the e like theatre or centre. She certainly isn’t American and seeing as she is a fascist pig I am still guessing Pretoria.

  33. Gregor Samsa says:

I’ve got another candidate for the position of US attorney: Exley. Seixon would make a great nominee, too.

They both worship at the feet of the Bush altar, and have a cursory knowledge of the law -at least enough to argue that the Bush administration does not torture or that it is ok because the unitarian executive said it’s ok.

Loyalty before actual qualifications. Little else matters to Pres Bush.

Indeed…given the fact that she was unable to supply a cogent interpretation of Article III, Section 3 of the Constitution, she’d fit right in over there with the rest of the vipers.

It doesn’t matter what Gonzales does anymore:

If he resigns he will be ineffective in running the Justice Dept.
If he stays he will be ineffective in running the Justice Dept.

He has created such a dysfunctional state over there, it reminds me of Rumsfeld and the Pentagon.
