Any chance of that legislation being passed? Didn’t think so.
May 25th, 2007 at 9:05 amSenator Dick Durbin (D) IL voted to Fund the Iraq OccupationLast Night. How hypocritical he is. We found out weeks ago he KNEW the Iraq pre-war intelligence was phony. Rather than do the dignified thing and resign and inform the American People he kept his mouth shut. He begged our forgiveness. Then last night he votes to continue this illegal occupation.

May 25th, 2007 at 9:08 amYou’d think four years would be enough time to get your act together. But, one must realize that Bush doesn’t care about the troops and whether they have the proper gear. His former defense secretary said exactly that, “You go to war with the army you have.”
Happy Memorial Day, everyone! I will be thinking of our brave troops who will be away from their families once again — because of Bush’s failed policy and pig-headedness.
May 25th, 2007 at 9:09 am***David Sirota found out yesterday the Dems were going to try and hide their vote from us last night. The fact that they were even considering this is frightening. Are they taking suggestions from Karl Rove now?
VOTE ALERT: Dick Cheney Dems Plan to Hide Votes On Iraq TODAY
by David Sirota | May 24 2007
Today is the day House Democrats are expected to vote on Iraq - except, news out of Washington this morning says the leadership has come up with a nifty little trick to try to prevent the public from seeing who voted for giving Bush a blank check, and who voted against it.
If you thought Democrats were behaving like cowards by caving into a President at a three-decade low in presidential polling and giving him the very blank check they explicitly promised not to give him during the 2006 election, you ain’t seen nothing yet. We are watching the rise of the Dick Cheney Democrats - that is, the rise of Democrats who endorse governing in secret and hiding the public’s business from the public itself.
Here’s how it is expected to work today in a process only Dick Cheney could love (though you never know - it could change). Every bill comes to the House floor with what is known as a “rule” that sets the terms of the debate over the legislation in question. House members first vote to approve this parliamentary rule, and then vote on the legislation. Today, however, Democrats are planning to include the Iraq Blank check bill IN the rule itself, meaning when the public goes to look for a vote on the Iraq supplemental bill, the public won’t find that. All we will find is a complex parliamentary procedure vote. Lawmakers, of course, will then tell their angry constituents they really are using all of their power to end the war, and this vote on the rule - which was the real vote for war - wasn’t really a vote on the war. It is a devious, deliberately confusing cherry on top of the manure sundae being served up to the American public, which voted Democrats into office on the premise that they would use their congressional majority to end the war.
May 25th, 2007 at 9:11 am“You go to war with the army you have.â€
May 25th, 2007 at 9:13 amand stay at war with the army you had
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) “voted at least three times Thursday in the Senate after missing more than a month of votes to campaign for a presidential bid.†The only Senator to miss more votes than McCain “is Sen. Tim Johnson (D-SD), who’s recovering from a brain hemorrhage.â€
Both have an excuse for being mentally disabled.
In a 396-22 vote, the House yesterday passed ethics legislation “that would penalize lawmakers who receive a wide range of favors from special interests, and would require lobbyists to disclose the campaign contributions they collect and deliver to lawmakers.â€
From now on, enforcing it would be a real shocker.
“Farmers in southern Iraq have started to grow opium poppies in their fields for the first time, sparking fears that Iraq might become a serious drugs producer along the lines of Afghanistan.â€
No wonder at all. Infrastuctures have been blown and never fully replaced, the economy is wrecked, the oil benefits go to Bush’s GOP cronies. Guess that the only living way today is this, as in Afghanistan. I wonder how many people would die thanks to all that drug in the streets, both junkies and other victims.
“Sallie Mae executives met with Bush administration budget officials in December, less than two months before the company chairman sold $18.3 million of Sallie Mae stock. Three days after the sale, President Bush unveiled a budget that included unexpectedly large cuts to lending subsidies, after which the company’s shares plummeted.â€
Waiting for the R’s wallowing about “free capitalism”. Yeah, right.
And finally: Colorado jury agrees that “doggie doo can be free speech.†A political activist faced a “misdemeanor charge of criminal use of a noxious substance†after leaving “a campaign flyer filled with dog poop†at the office of a politician. But he jury agreed that her statement — the politician’s positions “stink†— was covered by free speech.

….They have given George Bush a pass and control over the lives of millions of Iraqis….with no checks and balances. They have already started the edging into Sadr City, where there are two million people. Fallujah was only about 400,000. Look what a mess we made there.
He can bomb them, send rockets, missiles. And he has a hundred billion dollars to do it with. Sadr City has a tightly packed population of about 2 million people.
Larrys Note: 650,000 Iraqis dead now. How many more hundreds of thousands will die in this offensive? Harry Reid and Dick Durbin just paid for their slaughter. I hope at least Bush promised them a share of the Iraq Oil Windfall from the Profit Sharing Agreement.
May 25th, 2007 at 9:17 amYou can’t have a guest worker program that admits any more than 200,000 people per year. And the program shouldn’t last anymore than 5 years without congressional renewal. Americans need their jobs and they need their wages protected.
It looks as if labor unions would be rendered even more powerless should the guest worker provision pass.
May 25th, 2007 at 9:23 amBTW, all, good luck trying to contact your Reps and Sens today via email. I just tried, and both the House and Senate “contact” pages are mysteriously down…
After all we did to get Jim Webb elected from Virginia, I’m incensed that he voted for this friggin’ blank check to Bushco. I realize he has a son over there and may have felt that he had to vote for this piece of crap bill, but that ain’t what we heard from him last year during the campaign — THEN it was “bring ‘em home now.”
Silly us for actually believing that things would change with the Dems “in charge.” I’m so tired of being lied to by both parties, I feel like it’s time to trash them all and start all over again — bring on the Greens, or the Libertarians, or even the Perots — anything’s gotta be better than what we got with the repukes and the demo-caves…

May 25th, 2007 at 9:28 amI am relying on David Sirota from now on. I will not buy this crap that everything is wonderful, and Democrats have to stand soldily behind Pelosi and Reid and their Band of Merry Sell-Outs. They sold us out on the war and on immigration. They sold us out on trade deals and ethics reform. No, there’s nothing in this party I agree with, anymore. No reason for me to compromise my integrity…and I’ve been voting Democratic for thirty-five years. I’m changing my party affiliation to Independent.

Jim Webb is not your daddy’s democrat. I believe he made this clear during his campaign, and I believe he’s the right man for Virginia - a right leaning, but more moderated state in recent years. Jim Webb fits the billet. When heavy military powers are delegated to the President, it’s really tough to stop a war if congress approved of it to begin with.

If you’re so well-versed in Economics, why don’t give a link to a serious study that demonstrates your figure? It wouldn’t be so hard for you, being so proficient. We are speaking of math here, no need of “intuition”, specially yours. Give proven figures.
Your radical-supreme agenda doesn’t fit the billet, so it’s not as if your solution shouldn’t be held to scrutiny.
So asking for figures and not your subjective intuition is radical-supreme? If I had stated my opinion about immigration what would you have called me or ‘my agenda’?

First notice that I want a stampede of cheap laborers to your country. We are speaking of people already living in your country. And “shouldn’t”? Just wait.

The term is indeed illegal Illegal Alien job-smugglers who stroke La Raza’s bum.
Hmmm… a illegal illegal isn’t a legal? Isn’t this like a double negative? And, who’s the bigger smuggler, the one that pass himself the border illegally, or the one that hires knowingly illegal aliens? You mean that the Waltons of Walmart are responsibles of smuggling in great scale, or the farmers that employ hundreds of illegal workers to pick the vegetables you eat, or the republican WASPs owners of packing meat factories? They are criminals also, under your strict view of the law. Why not act against the people that commits hundreds or thousands of crimes per year before going for the little ones? Isn’t the thing that is done against drug dealers, pick the bigger the fish the better?
Better believe it. My counter of your crap writing doesn’t exactly make me “buggy,†it helps confirms that you’re radical.

Just wait? If they’re in this country, that’s why we have the ICE. You know, those enforcement pricks.
It’s intuitively disasterous, given the math itself. But you’re not very “proficient” there.
“Nope, it’s not my responsabillity back your claim.”
The claim has been backed time and time and time again by the brightest of researchers. There is verifiable proof that tapping cheap labor brings down wages. Want to know what a meat packer made in 1981? Wages as high as $18.00 bucks an hour. Want to know the average wage is today? About $7.50. And is meat still expensive as hell? Absolutely. Want to be lazy in registering that? Not my problem.
Highlighting my words in a desperate attempt to protect you own minced thoughts? Useless.
The “USA” you think of is one dismantled into a third-world country. I want you to get this: third-world immigration into a developed country doesn’t exactly have a history of working out well. You can’t take the immigration book of 200 years ago and seek to apply it today. There are new complexities to take into account. Sorry, but the “Aztec Warrior” doctrine doesn’t apply here.

On May 23 Dennis Kucinich spent an HOUR on the House floor presenting overhwhelming evidence that Bush will not leave Iraq until they pass the Hydrocarbon law.
This is the only BENCHMARK Bush truly wants to achieve.
The Hydrocarbon law will give 70% of the profits from Iraq’s untapped oil to Exxon, BP Chevron for the next 30 years!! The estimate is $220 TRILLION in untapped oil in the Iraq ground. 70% of that is approx. $180 TRILLION.
Bush threatened Iraq by telling them that we will not deliver billions in reconstruction aid UNLESS Iraq agrees to the Hydrocarbon law. In my world this is called a EXTORTION. This is outrageous considering we knocked down most of the buildings that need to be reconstructed.
Thank GOD for Dennis Kucinich, a man with a spine and a conscience. Dennis is LEADING while Hillary and Barack are whimpering.

I would have to disagree, Edwards may be out of touch, but much like Romney, he is a good looking guy, who’s wife is being treated for cancer. A fair number of people are willing and able to connect to that sort of thing. I am not arguing that he is, or isn’t the best candidate, but much like Romney, he is good looking. And God knows that is the about the only thing going for both candidates. Besides Edwards, could well appeal to disenchanted souther conservatives, and moderate republicans. Your best hope, is Hillary gets the nomination otherwise the republicans will be fractured and unable to come solidly behind a single candidate.

May 25th, 2007 at 12:10 pmAmericans Are Tired Of DC Politics!
Friday 25th of May 2007
by Jay Randal
Most Americans are completely tired of the political games that are being played in DC, by politicians of both political parties, and we are sick of “Bad Cop” Republicans versus “Good Cop” Democrats routine.
We know that both parties are suckering us as rubes, and they believe we are too stupid to notice it, but in reality we do know that we are being played as fools.
We know many of the Senators represent the wealthy only, and we know that most are in bed with “Military Industrial Complex” CEOs, so they refuse to end war.
We know entire Bush Regime are criminally corrupt warmongering whores, but some in the Congress are just like them, so the Iraq Fiasco War may never end.
We know the economy is quickly collapsing, since real good jobs are disappearing fast, as corporations like Halliburton moving overseas before the downfall too.
I do commend Reps Kucinich, Waters, Woolsey, and Sen. Feingold for being patriots standing up to Bush and opposing his debacle in Iraq.

I can’t defend Mr. Bush, because Mr. Bush is destroying the Republican party.
But I have to give you credit though for your “under the table” question, because while Mr. Edwards quickly sought to remedy the whole haircut payment issue, Mr. Bush didn’t want to stop his illegal surveillance program when that was disclosed.
The democratic nomination will be super-competitive, and I want a democratic candidate who’s obsessed with something other than money. Hillary is less smug, can quickly appeal to the South, and is your overrall democratic candidate. Hillary can be a good Commander-in-Chief as well, has good defense credentials.

For many journalists, diplomats, and political activists, Amnesty International is considered to be a highly reliable and objective source of information and analysis on human rights around the world. But the halo that surrounds its reports and campaigns is beginning to fray, as the evidence of political bias and inaccuracy mounts.
Recently, the Economist, published in Britain, noted that “an organisation which devotes more pages in its annual report to human-rights abuses in Britain and America than those in Belarus and Saudi Arabia cannot expect to escape doubters’ scrutiny.” Other critics, including law professor at Harvard, Alan Dershowitz, and the U.S.-based Capital Research Center, have been more pointed, providing evidence of Amnesty’s systematic bias and reports based largely on claims by carefully selected “eyewitnesses” in Colombia, Gaza, and Lebanon.
As Amnesty releases its annual report on human rights for 2006, amid highly choreographed public relations events, and repeating the familiar condemnations of Israel and America, NGO Monitor has also published a report on Amnesty’s activities in the Middle East. The result is not a pretty picture for those clinging to the “halo effect.”
Using a detailed and sophisticated qualitative model for comparing relative resources devoted to the different countries, this report clearly shows that in 2006, Amnesty singled out Israel for condemnation of human rights to a far greater extent than Iran, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Syria, Egypt, and other chronic abusers of human rights.

May 25th, 2007 at 3:07 pmI find it enormously funny that those who slam illegal’s for being cheap labor and taking American jobs are also those who love Wal-Mart for keeping prices low, so low that nearly everything they sell is made in China. So what is it do you want the low prices that low wage jobs help create? Or do you want the illegal’s to go and make those jobs higher paying for good Americans such as yourself? Why don’t you just admit that the Illegal alien issue has nothing to do with people being in our country illegally, and everything to do with those people possibly (most likely) having a political affiliation different than yours?
