Many insurances, at least the ones that I buy, are mandatory. Health insurance, can’t afford it; home /renters, can’t afford; life insurance, why make someone rich upon my own death; disability, can’t afford; you get the picture.

Ask the ones living in Florida about how well they were treated by insurance companies. When it comes to profits, or really assisting their policy holders getting their life back on track they (insurance companies) will cut and run everytime.

The privatized system we have is driven by profits, and that means if the cost outweigh the benefits, then, no matter how much the assistance is needed it will not be provided.

It began as a protection racket for immigrants emigrating to the United States, and if they didn't buy protection something would happen to them, their homes and/or businesses. The only difference from those days and these days is now they have the backing of the government, and henceforth, are now legal. In effect, the government protects the protection racket because the government now gets a slice of the pie, so now it's okay. Of course, the government regulates the industry to be more humane. BELLAIRE, Mich. — Michael Moore says he’s planning an unofficial North American premiere of his documentary “Sicko” in Michigan to benefit the Antrim County Democratic Party.

The critical account of the U.S. health care industry, which was the talk of the Cannes Film Festival, will be shown June 16 in Bellaire, about 210 miles northwest of Detroit.

“Sicko” is scheduled to open in the U.S. on June 29.

“I’m doing this at my wife’s request,” Moore said. “Everyone is invited.”

The Flint native’s wife, Kathleen Glynn, is vice-chairwoman of the Antrim County Democratic Party and executive producer of the documentary.

Moore, who is being investigated by the U.S. Treasury Department for traveling to Cuba for one of the segments in the film, said he agreed to the benefit partly because the organization regularly holds events to help the needy.
