U.S. deaths near grim Memorial Day mark.

By Nico Pitney on May 26th, 2007 at 11:06 pm

U.S. deaths near grim Memorial Day mark.

“Americans have opened nearly 1,000 new graves to bury U.S. troops killed in Iraq since Memorial Day a year ago. The figure is telling — and expected to rise in coming months. In the period from Memorial Day 2006 through Saturday, 980 soldiers and Marines died in Iraq, compared to 807 deaths in the previous year.”

And those are the official numbers. I’ve been told many deaths aren’t included in that total if the soldier died later from combat injuries. One would need to see the stats and compare them and see if average non-combat deaths for years before Iraq remain constant or have spiked.

If opposing money for the troops in a time of war is necessarily anti-military and un-American, why did Bush reject war funding less than a month ago? -Josh Marshall

Cooperative Research states that “assuming 4,000 of the options were bought by people with advance knowledge of the imminent 9/11 attacks, these ‘insiders’ would have profited by almost $5 million. The firm that handled the purchase of many of the put options on United Airlines, the Bank of Alex Brown, was headed by ‘Buzzy’ Krongard until 1998. Krongard was the deputy director of the CIA during G.W.Bush’s first four years. Tom Flocco reported on July 16, 2002 that European reporters found most of the suspicious pre-September 11th trading“Passed through Deutsche bank and Alex Brown investment division by means of a procedure called portage, which assures the anonymity of individuals making the transactions.” This issue cannot be discounted, overlooked, or debunked as a conspiracy theory. The questions remain: Who put in the calls for these options, and are the calls tied to Krongard, the CIA, the alleged terrorists, or others?”

“9/11 Synthetic Terror is the strongest of the 770+ books I’ve reviewed here at Amazon, almost all non-fiction. I’m forced to conclude that 9/11 was at a minimum allowed to happen as a pretext for war, and that there is sufficient evidence to indict Cheney, Rove and others of a neo-conservative neo-Nazi coup d’etat and kick-off of an engineered “clash of civilizations”. Author Webster Tarpley links Samuel Huntington, author of “Clash of Civilizations” with Leo Strauss, the connecting rod between Nazi fascists and the neo-cons. This is, without question, the most important modern reference on state-sponsored terrorism, and also the reference that most pointedly suggests that select rogue elements within the US Government, most likely led by Dick Cheney with the assistance of George Tenet, Buzzy Kronguard, and others close to the Wall Street gangs, are the most guilty of state-sponsored terrorism. Tarpley draws on historical examples of US fabrication of threats, e.g. bombing of USS Maine in Havana Harbor, LBJ’s Bombing of the U.S. Liberty in the Gulf Of Tonkin, Operation Northwoods, etc, etc, etc.

It’s an undeniable fact that the U.S. Government has been willing to kill its own citizens and fabricate attacks as part of “moving the public”. The author suggests that there is quite a bit of evidence that the hijackers had been trained at US military bases, protected by the CIA and FBI, and that the end result of their actions, including controlled flying into buildings and controlled demolitions bringing down three towers, one of which was not hit at all, all suggest a US-based conspiracy. The author is compelling on the conflicts of interest of each of the 9/11 Commissioners and key staff; he is conclusive in his damnation of their performance and their refusal to be tough with NORAD, the FAA, and many other Executive groups that refused to cooperate; and conclusive in his suggestion that all actual evidence points to the Pentagon being hit by a missile rather than by any airplane. The author is especially compelling in condemning Rudy Guilliani as part of the conspiracy and complicit with the extreme right, charged with cleaning up the crime scene. Instead of making the area off-limits, Gulliani moved aggressively to “scoop and dump” to the point that the NYC Firefighters rioted.

I sit here, a 54-years old, liberally educated, with two graduate degrees, from war college, a life overseas, with 150 IQ or so, the number #1 Amazon reviewer for non-fiction, a former Marine Corps infantry officer, a former CIA clandestine case officer, founder of the Marine Corps Intelligence Center, and I believe it. I believe it enough to want a full investigation that passes the test of the 9/11 families as well as objective outside observers. I believe it sufficient to indict Dick Cheney and other neo-cons. The Executive is now in the service of corporations that benefit from High Crimes and Misdemeanors, rather than in the service of the American people who suffer great ill from these terrible misdeeds. My bottom line: Justice has not been done, and this book, together with Crossing the Rubicon, is a major reason why I believe that eventually Cheney and others must be brought to justice. The people now have a digital memory and collective intelligence. Bin Laden Dead or Alive? Mission Accomplished? Civil Liberties at home, Democracy abroad? Just who are we kidding? More to the point, who are we betraying if not ourselves? – Robert Steele.”

Steele is about as insider establishment as they come. If this is his statement, it’s clear that everyone knows or is about to understand that far from any genuine Liberty or Freedom, we live in a cohesive media/military/corporate/government/banking/techno-control cage run by phenomenally deviant criminals. The next part of their “plan” involves despicable illegal radio “brainchips” for mind control and directed-energy “behaviour modification” which crooked dentists and others have already implanted in millions of innocent Americans, in concert with NSA supercomputers containing Constitutionally protected data “stolen” in “data thefts” and thousands of koolaid-drinking “patriots” who think they have a right to behave like little nazi brownshirt vigilantes. Wake up, America. The GOP is a party teeming with lying pathological petty tyrants encouraged and supported by corrupt politicians and illegal operators stealing trillions of your dollars to fund a war of terror on you.

  6. david says:

There is no progress. The war has maintained an average of almost 3 combat deaths per day with about 20 wounded per day. The surge has done nothing to improve these odds. Add combat fatigue to the health of the rest of the troops and you have a broken military.

Personally, I despise the focus on the bodycount of U.S. soldiers who, after all, are there voluntarily (and voted to reelect the Chief War Criminal by about 80%).

It is the Iraqi deaths that are the most tragic. After all, no one in Iraq asked for this Heart of Darkness that America has reigned down upon them.

I’m not trying to smear anyone, I’m just saying that 911t is out there representing the left, just as Michael is the right, and both serve as bad examples for the rest of the members of their groups. I did not realize that you had already scoulded 911t, so I thought that it was acceptable to just spew shit like that all over the page. I apologize, for now I realize that 911’s paranoid crap does not fly.

  26. JPark says:

Mr. President. Considering 911Truth has been shot down by several of us I really don’t think you can honestly say he is representing us. I haven’t seen you disavow yourself from Michael’s views.

Well, I haven’t *really* seen Michael express a view. His tactics don’t really involve “debating” in the true sense of the word.

  28. JPark says:

Eh, you’ve got me there, Mr. President.

I don’t, I just think he gives you a bad rep. by claiming to hold the same beliefs that some of the “libs” on this site do. And I am not saying that all Dems or Libs think the same, they obviously don’t, but sometimes it is the extreme cases that ruin the rep for everyone. (Take communism for example)

  30. JPark says:

But before you jump to conclusions about the left, Mr. President, you might want to note the responses to certain people. Unless 911Truth starts using his own mind and stops using bold he is not going to be popular here. Never think that lefties are sheep that will agree just because it is a popular position. It doesn’t happen.

  31. Jay Randal says:

Never think that lefties are sheep that will agree just because it is a popular position. It doesn’t happen.

    Comment by JPark — May 27, 2007 @ 12:40 am

Well for the most part I agree, however, there are people who follow the crowd on both sides left and right, and those are the dangerous people: the ones who don’t use their own minds.

  33. JPark says:

I am not sure what we lefties can do about that other than what we already do. We police our own. If posters are out of line we let them know but then we don’t censor them, we just tell them what we think. Righties, however, have people like Ann Coulter and Michael Savage who are never challenged by the right. There is never an anti-Coulter post by a righty despite the fact that she is psychotic (and probably doesn’t even believe the crap she spouts). It is all taken as fact.

I took the time to read 911Truth’s lengthy post. It was informative and helpful. Some people do not bother to follow links, others gloss over lengthy posts. You are free to do as you choose.

But why criticise a poster when the message is right? 911Truth’s post wasn’t that of a troll, yet you treated it as if it was. Your comment reminded me of when I posted a diary over at dailykos back in March. I was angry enough to use CAPS. Most of the comments to that diary complained about the use of caps, rather than commenting on what I had to say. I found it disheartening, and have hardly posted over there since then.

Gregor Strasser, one of the first members of the Nazi Party > executed.

I could go on and on listing of the faithfull to Hitler he decided to murder. Bush’s followers would be wise to look it up on Google.

  79. Jay Randal says:

Just before Ernst Roehm, the leader of the Brownshirts was executed, he screamed “Mein Fuhrer, mein Fuhrer!” as Theodor Eicke, later to become commandant of Dachau concentration camp, shot him dead.

  80. Jay Randal says:

How many of his followers were murdered on orders of Hitler during long knives purge? Around 250, but some claim up to 1,000. The rest of the 4 million Brownshirts were forced to enlist in the German Army and most of them died on the Russian front eventually.

This is an historic tale that Bush lovers should be aware & learn from.

I must admit you won some of my respect with that.

Now back to the topic you have got the Iraq war. Only two answers that I can see: 1 Introduce a draft, and treble troop numbers. 2: Cut your losses and leave.

1: The people of America are not willing to do, as it would entail real sacrifice for a cause which they point blank don’t believe in.

2: Will mean a genocide, but the longer you remain the worse the genocide will be.

Right now Bush, the Republicans and the Democrats are dithering over the decision, and consequently things are getting worse. Either do, or don’t do, these half measures are just wasting everybody’s time and money.

It is time for a decision to be made.

  83. criticalthinker says:

1000 American lives is a fraction of the number of Iraqi lives lost over that same period!

All lost because of the illegal overthrow of the government of a SOVEREIGN nation, and the chaos that it unleashed.

Q: Are the HYPOCRITES who believe that American lives are worth more than Iraqi lives, gonna mention that in their Memorial day speeches?

    A: Of course not!

  84. Badger says:

2: Will mean a genocide. The problem is worse. Will the Saudi’s Jordanians, and Syrians sit by and watch a Sunni Massacre??Will Iran sit by and watch the Shiites get massacred ???
Bush has opened a pandora’s box in the world’s energy supply.

  85. No Body count says:

That doesn’t bode well for the rest of the day does it? Can you give us a hint what your post was about?

  90. Sharon says:

Good Morning Shane, this will likely be my last post here for awhile, maybe for good…My post was about a lot, all the losses since 2000,9/11. Katrina, Iraq, yes even Lebanon…Ooooh I said the bad L word for TP…Let’s see if this post’ make’s it…Men women and children dieing all over the world because the drunk druggie took our milatary and used them like a bat to a hornet’s nest..

Mentioned the Mr.Pres poster and bordum of many of the troll’s..
Actknoledged the post’s of 9/11 truth…..Just more of my rambling’s..It was my usual lengthy one shot insightful plead to make people think…No matter, I think sometime’s TP joines other media types and want’s to lead us instead of truly inform…And all to often they allow or incourage the monoply of some troll’s to try and keep their site active…..You have a nice day, week, month, year..Will peak in, maybe and I do injoy reading you…..Blessings

Sharon > Keep coming back to post on here. Do not let a glitch drive you away. TP has cyber attackers who are able to delete posts and steal peoples names too. The fight against the Bush Regime requires everyone to keep plugging away no matter what.

  92. Every Poster Here says:

Sharon, please know that the progressive posters here all look forward to hearing from you and need to hear the important things you have to say. And my favorites are when you are on a rant. Please don’t give up on TP and please go to a newer thread to let regulars know that your long post was deleted in case others don’t come back to this one.

  93. Marie says:

I just heard CNN report that ten soldiers had died this weekend. It is often not clear if I am hearing them compile the list from the past two days of if these are ten more.
How many more of these headlines; how many more families torn apart; how many more before Bush&Co are drummed out of office?

  94. hterrya says:

Tomorrow afternoon, Lord willing, I plan to gather with others in front of the Texas State Capitol) to publicly mourn the 980 troops (plus how many others the current corrupt president causes to be killed between Saturday and Monday afternoon at 6:30 PM [CDT]) who have lost their lives since last Memorial Day.

We will also mourn with equal sadness all the uncounted Iraqi non-combatants who died in that same period.

That is something to remember on Memorial Day, and all year long.
