U.S. disbands group aimed at pressuring Iran, Syria.

“The Bush administration has dismantled a special committee that was established last year to coordinate aggressive actions against Iran and Syria, State Department officials said this week.”

The interagency group, known as the Iran Syria Policy and Operations Group, met weekly throughout much of 2006 to coordinate actions such as curtailing Iran’s access to credit and banking institutions, organizing the sale of military equipment to Iran’s neighbors, and supporting democratic forces that oppose the two regimes.

State Department and White House officials said the dissolution of the group was simply a bureaucratic reorganization, but many analysts saw it as evidence of a softening in the US strategy toward the two countries. It comes as the Bush administration has embarked on a significant new effort to hold high-level meetings with Iran and Syria.

    Don’t believe that BS for a second….

Ironically Iran helped America defeat Hitler by being a passageway to Russia as well they built some 700,000 vehicles for the effort.

This ‘Atoms for Peace’ program, started decades ago, was a really malo idea.

Kougar, c’mon. Let’s try to have a little hope!

    And, for Atomes for Peace:

Yes the program was disbanded now here’s why.
The White House said it did not confirm or deny allegations about intelligence matters.

Iran found the operation Bush was doing in Iraq and Iran have the evidence to prove it. Notice there was no denial by the White House.
Now Al Sadr has visited the Middle East leaders and with the current evidence all will know the Bush Administration has been lying to them.
That’s the reason we’re hearing about pulling out in 08. We wont have to pull out we’ll be kicked out. The overseas media gives the correct information about what’s really happening.

  5. Jay Randal says:

That would be nice, if true, but I believe Bush no longer needs the group since he might attack Iran during this Congressional vacation.

    Apropos. Rudderless incompetence.

While WH people like Feith refuse to hire experts on Arabic language, culture and history, such as Lang, and the Pentagon is busy firing all gay linguists, can one understand why it is the US is losing this war?

Newsflash: This ain’t a Hollywood movie! The people in the Middle East to not walk about speaking English with an accent –well, actually, they do, but that’s not to America’s advantage. No, Americans wander about Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait speaking English and no Arabic, while the locals can speak both. Do you see what kind of disadvantage that is? And the locals can pretend not to speak English and eavesdrop on everything.

This is not some Theme Park, folks. This is a culture and country 7 times older than the USA. They speak a different language, they have a different religion, they have different customs & traditions. They eat and dress differently than you do. What do you expect to accomplish?

Perhaps you want to force them all to speak English –with an accent– all the time. Perhaps you want them to wear jeans and t-shirts, to eat McDonald’s burgers, Little Caesar’s pizza, and Starbuck’s coffee. Frankly, that is so lame. Besides, they make much better coffee there than Starbuck’s does.

My guess is that the pressure groups were leaking more information than they were providing. Either that or Bush plans to attack Iran this summer. Which would be madness.

There is circumstantial evidence that the group is still active.

  10. BigMitch says:

Disbanding the group is evidence of softening of our stance towards Iran and Syria? Excuse me. It can be evidence of giving up on manipulating access to credit in favor of more bellicose options, e.g., using the aircraft carrier groups that have been positioned off the coast of Iran.

Please visit the Schapira blog, “What we know so far …”

… and tell ‘em Big Mitch sent ya!

Obviously, just another shadow group the the Bush Administration’s shadow government. Was this another one of Mr. Cheney’s wet dreams? I mean, IS(P & O)G and ISG! The first being Iran Syria Policy and Operations Group, and the second being Iraq Study Group.

Therefore, all one has to do is strike out the P and O in the former and they will be believed to be referring of the latter. The anatomy of a liar compels us to understand that confusion is a necessary tool for liars to maintain their own credibility. It is this notion, to me, that makes liars so incredible.
