White House plays down withdrawal report.»

The White House is playing down the New York Times report that the Bush administration “was weighing a scenario for possibly sharp cuts in U.S. troop levels in Iraq next year.” Spokeswoman Dana Perino: “We, of course, would like to be in a position to bring down troop levels, but certain conditions, as assessed by senior military advisers and commanders on the ground, need to be met to warrant that.”

The report was leaked in the first place only to placate the restive moderates of the Republican party.

    It will never happen.

I could make a really, really rude comment about that headline and Jeff Gannon visiting the WH, but I’ll just leave it up to everyone’s imagination.

After emerging from church on Easter Sunday, Bush declared that “I pray for the safety of the troops. I pray for peace.” Was he intending to be facetious or was he attempting to be droll? God did not place these troops in harm’s way, Bush and Cheney did. No matter how hard he will pray, the troops will continue to get blown up and shot and maimed and crippled as long as they are in Iraq. There will also be little likelihood of there being peace in the region as long as the U.S continues to make its belligerent presence known in the Middle East. Congressman Kucinich has the right idea. Get those troops out of that quagmire as rapidly and as quickly as possible.

  12. Jay Randal Says:

Bush keeps the troops in Iraq to subjugate the Iraqis while Petroleum Cartel steals the OIL. It will take 20 to 30 years to extract all of the OIL, so US troops will remain untill it’s all taken.

  13. Candyce Says:

Nearly 1000 soldiers, sailors, and marines have died since last Memorial Day.

But whatever. I hear there’s a big Memorial Day sale on mattresses down at the mall.

Indeed, why else would they be building that enormous friggin’ embassy over there?

I was going to mention that the credibility of the NYT has lastly been seen at the edge of the visible universe, its flickering light redshifted so much by cosmological expansion that only NASA is still able to detect it by deploying deep-infrared detectors cooled with liquid helium.

Instead I will comment on #11:

After emerging from church on Easter Sunday, Bush declared that “I pray for the safety of the troops. I pray for peace.”

Did either you or the White House say that what the New York Times published was false? Does the word “false” require a full adventure into physics to explain it.

There is likely a logical (true/false) answer to what the Bush team did. And it don’t take no course in physics to explain it. Just yes the Bush team did or no the Bush team did not consider lowering the Iraqi troop count.

While the Washington Times would not likely print what the New York Times printed, that does not make the New York Times a bad publication.

Did you read the story in the Washington Times that said “WMDs were found in Iraq”? While most of America and the United Nations were focused on the Nuclear Category, somebody switched to the Chemical Category.

Long ago, Republicans hinted at a need to “modify” the “liberal press” while letting loose those press types who pushed the Republican party line. Had we been thinking, we could have warned Valerie Plame to watch her back for “friendly fire”. But most of America never would have guessed how low the Bush team would go.
