Doan’s Blackberry excuse doesn’t pan out.

Doan’s Blackberry excuse doesn’t pan out.»

GSA administrator Lurita Doan claims she can’t remember the details of the partisan Rove PowerPoint session that was given to her employees because she was busy using her Blackberry. The Office of Special Counsel (which found that her partisan activity violated federal law) looked into the claim:

The special counsel sought to corroborate the BlackBerry distractions, yet when investigators reviewed Doan’s personal and government e-mail messages during the post-lunch meeting, there was no evidence that Doan would have been particularly distracted.

“The documentation establishes that Ms. Doan received nine e-mail messages to her private e-mail account on Jan. 26, 2007, with the latest one received at 1:08 p.m.,” the report states. The meeting took place from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. “The documentation Ms. Doan provided concerning her private e-mail account did not establish that she sent, read, composed, deleted or moved any messages during the January meeting.”

How does a person navigate to a meeting while clutching a device [Blackberry] that makes you forget time/space/reality?

Maybe she was holding a “time machine” and she only thought it was a Blackberry.

  12. Saint Saddam Says:

Maybe she meant her pink berry that was really turning a dark shade of purple…

  13. shane Says:

Ever since Reagan and Bush got away with Iran/Contra because Ronnie said he couldn’t remember anything the Republicans have decided not to tell the truth about anything.

Apparently Richard Nixon will go down as the last Republican who could remember or tell the truth about anything. Says a lot for you Repukes.

  16. spencers mom Says:

Shane, you are SO right! “I can’t recall” has become the mantra for the Republicsum.

How about having these memory-impaired people undergo lie-detector testing? And if the tests show that they are lying about not recalling, and they still claim they “can’t recall” let’s look into sodium pentathol. If THAT doesn’t work (can’t see how they could have been trained in a short time to beat these tests) how about using some Gonzo-approved “enhanced interogation techinques”?

There is truth to be had. How far will the Dems go to get it?

    Bye Bye GOP!

    PEACE

“I found my thrill on Blackberry Hill… My Blackberry stood still, I thought of you still (Karl)….” Maybe using a Blackberry turns a Republican woman into a mediative alpha mental state where she becomes impervious to PowerPoint demonstrations.

These GOP clowns are so pre-1992 (the Bill Clinton era began that year) with their minimal understanding of modern technology. They don’t seem to believe in the existence and relative permance of video tape or computer memory. These conservative GOP “mental blocks”(creationist based?) have gone a long way to form their childish belief that somehow, God willing, their previous remarks and statements will be forgotten in the bright light of each morning’s dawn.

  19. Tom Dicksen Says:

She lied under oath, testifying to Congress. Step by step, inch by inch, closer to Rove every day.

  20. DutchHenry Says:

Let’s see she doesn’t recall cause she was so busy on her blackberry that she doen’t know, but then their is nothing on her blackberry to indicate she was useing it at the time:Is this not lying under oath or obstruction of justice folks ?

  21. gummitch Says:

OK, well that story didn’t work. Ahhhh, oh yes, I remember. I had some severe digestive distress and I was in the ladies’ room all night. That’s why I didn’t tell those bad people to stop with the political messages. That thing with the Blackberry was a different night. But, whatever, I’m completely out of the loop on this.

  22. RUCerious Says:

Was she in a remote canasta tournament, perhaps?

  23. ruttiger Says:

DOESN’T THIS ESTABLISH PERJURY TO CONGRESS BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT? didn’t they swear her in?

i would even say that perjury is established by the fact that only someone with a severely impaired memory would forget as much as she claimed to forget. and i’m sure investigators could establish that she doesn’t have such an impaired memory. but the blackberry lie just cements the case.

last i heard perjury is illegal. on a personal level i find lurita doan to inspire some sympathy in me. but it would be a horrible mistake to let sympathy stand in the way of appropriate punishment. what sort of message would that send? seriously. at what point do we insist that people remember? can someone say they forgot what was discussed during a meeting yesterday? “i am just completely blanking”. doesn’t this case fall on the side of — she’s obviously lying (or if she isn’t then we’re willing to risk punishing her wrongly punished for having a severely impaired memory — “beyond a reasonable doubt” doesn’t = “no way it could be false”).

    Ergo: PROSECUTE!

  24. ruttiger Says:

“we’re willing to risk punishing her wrongly punished for having a severely impaired memory”

sorry — i should have said:

“we’re willing to risk punishing her wrongly for having a severely impaired memory”

    i prematurely stopped editing.

This shows you what the Fifth Amendment right to refuse to incriminate yourself is for, because even “I can’t recall” or other evasive answers can get you into trouble. Let’s see if she pleads the Fifth the next time she testifies. She is clearly lying.

This doesn’t mean that a Bush Administration official lied does it? Say its not so.

  29. AboveTheClouds Says:

Rove must be losing his touch–I thought the loyal Bushies ate this stuff up and couldn’t wait to pass it along. The “permanent Republican majority” takes another hit.

  30. Perry Logan Says:

All you see on the news today are Republicans weaseling. No wonder today’s young voters are the most Democratic generation in American history.

  31. Evil Says:

    Maybe she was playing Brickbreaker?

  32. good grief, charlie brown Says:

Wonder what she was playing with during the meeting?

re #27: The link is hilarious. Makes me cringe when I see these idiots driving or walking or trying to impress those in the same room while eating a meal. Thanks

what is so hard to understand? The woman is simply a good soldier- in other words, she is a liar!

  35. steve Says:

it’s especially delicious when the most orwellian party gets exposed as liars by stored data.

  36. Coffins draped with flags Says:

Oooo… does this mean that this disgraceful person, Doan, gets to go to jail? I certainly hope so.

  37. Boy Genius Says:

No, what she meant to say was that she was eating blackberries and got distracted. And there were cookies on the table. And … And … And…

  38. Creepy Charlie Says:

Everybody’s so quick to label her as a liar, but there’s a much simpler answer. I download porn to my blackberry all the time, and it makes my meetings go much faster. I’m sure that’s what she did.

  39. Father Paul Says:

Do you believe the average American citizen will have any idea of who Lurita Doan is? Or the implications of her actions (and subsequent lying about them)? Or how pervasive and interconnected all of these corporate criminals are? Much less, do you think they would care?

You can bet they could rattle off last night’s sports scores, or who was voted off of “Lost Survivor of the American Idle (sic) Steel Cage Match.”

I wonder if Rick Mercer (video posted at #27) returned to Canada, horrified, to find that there are as many ignorant people bouncing around down here as there are?

…oh, wait… brb… “Dancing with the Stars” just came back on…

I guess we plainfolk should just stop meddling with the affairs of State and leave it to them Worsh-tin fellers… Ooh! What’s this? Pablum, yummm…….. (smack, smack)

  40. Jackie Says:

Ms. Doan will follow other Bushie loyalist like Libby to save the Administration. Americans support the President and his criminal acts. I noticed Clinton’s name again no surprise. Clinton lied about an affair while the US economy, jobs, gas, homes and the country was doing great. Oh and the Stock Market was available to every American. Bush has lied about everything while the soldiers are dying for no reason, economy is in the tank, gas is higher then ever, every country looks at the US as liar, US has caused chaos around the world, we lost the Justice System and so much more bad news. Yet Americans continue to know the truth and laugh it off. Bush knows he can do what he’s doing and the American people will sit back and do nothing. Oh yes blame the Dems as we forget the GOP vote to stay the course. No problem with Fingers Foley molesting kids because he’s a Republican. Where is Porter Goss after he was kicked out?
When the full effect of what Bush has done to this country hit’s every American let’s see the comments and how Americans feel about being played for fools and robbed blind by the GOP and the Bush Administration. We can’t get the soldiers lives back but I notice from yesterdays holiday not many people really took interest just lip service.

  41. rico Says:

The name of the game is holding on to power, the repugs are just better at it than the elephants; the people are useless eaters.

  42. PTF Says:

Have a look on the gwb43.com server for Doan’s e-mails.

O wait, the GOP won’t let the people see that.

  43. Kate Henry Says:

You really have to love those RepubliCONS. First it is “I don’t remember” or “I can’t recall” and now it is “My Blackberry did it”.

Criminals one and all. The election in 2008 can’t come soon enough. Hopefully it’s not too late to save this once great nation.

  44. NoOneYouKnow Says:

Hilarious. The Bushco excuses are getting so transparently ludicrous that the Dems will have to indict them out of embarrassment.

  45. Arne Langsetmo Says:

What?!? She lied. Tell me it isn’t so…..

    Cheers,
