Fighting them there

By Nico Pitney on May 28th, 2007 at 11:10 am

Fighting them there

so we can fight them everywhere:

The Iraq war, which for years has drawn militants from around the world, is beginning to export fighters and the tactics they have honed in the insurgency to neighboring countries and beyond, according to American, European and Middle Eastern government officials and interviews with militant leaders in Lebanon, Jordan and London.

Some of the fighters appear to be leaving as part of the waves of Iraqi refugees crossing borders that government officials acknowledge they struggle to control. But others are dispatched from Iraq for specific missions. [...]

Estimating the number of fighters leaving Iraq is at least as difficult as it has been to count foreign militants joining the insurgency. But early signs of an exodus are clear, and officials in the United States and the Middle East say the potential for veterans of the insurgency to spread far beyond Iraq is significant.

They will be here soon enough.

  2. Jay Randal says:

Yes, but Bush does not care about creating terrorists in Iraq. He has no concern about them going to other nations either.

  3. Billy in Texas says:

How ’bout them unsecured borders everyone’s so fond of here in the US?

  4. Zooey says:

THIS is the George W. Bush legacy.

  5. Juan C says:

Furthermore, US just reached an agreement with Iran about Iraq. So,isnt Iran in a US black list of countries that support terrorism?

Wasnt the motto: we dont negotiate with terrorists? What a big load of crap this whole terrorism thing. It has always being like this since Saddam was taking out of the terrorist list in the times of Reagan while Saddam was gassing Kurds. This is more ridiculous than the absurd “Axis of Evil”.

As always, lies and propaganda, so some morons feel “patriotic”.

  6. Tom3 says:

Chimpy created a Terrorist Factory in Iraq.

We are not safer than we were 5 years ago. We are creating new terrorists faster than our troops can kill the old ones.

Even Rummy once ruminated that this is happening. It is.

  7. Jay Randal says:

Bush is spewing baloney on TV at this very moment. He should not even show his face in public on this holiday. He is a criminal fascist.

  8. Tom3 says:

That Posada guy who blew up a Cuban airliner and hotels in Havana is a free man, thanks to the Chimpy regime.

Apparently they’re not really terrorists if they’re our terrorists.

Because everyone knows feeling patriotic is actually more important than being patriotic.

    Oy…

  10. Marie says:

Instead of attempting revenge on our attackers as the first order of business – Bushie should have devoted his emphasis on protecting our borders, ports, and airports.
Rather, looking out for his own personal interest and answering his primitive instincts, he went on the counter attack — but he attacked the wrong country, and left the state-less terrorists to go free.
The goal of reducing government by spending it into bankruptcy and ineffectiveness is working – increasing defense spending and devoting much of it toward private contractors (further neutering the government), increasing tax cuts for the wealthy (who have interests in defense contractors and big oil) and reducing the middle class of society while increasing the lower class of working poor is part of his plan.
The money lost in Iraq could have been well spent here within our borders on honest and intelligent security – not the Mickey Mouse efforts of Chertoff and company) – we could have increased the employment of the middle class, by supporting new industries in environmental protection and preservation, we could have increased education support and encouraged our youth to be prepared to take us into the future.
Bush continues to play the fear card – equating Iraq with 9/11 – and continues to take us backward. We will surely be attacked again – and we will be less prepared for it because of Bush.

They are afraid that Posada can spill out his guts about his CIA knowledge if he is extradited to Venezuela, for example. They are also afraid about being judged by a US jury, for the same reasons. Posada is a liability to the US precisely for all the terrorist lingo that US has been used in these last 6 years. Hypocresy, as always.

I havent seen Exley or other trolls here claiming for this terrorist to be killed or sent to Gitmo… I wonder why.

  13. Jay Randal says:

Marie > unfortunately Bush does not work for common Americans like us. His job is to rob this nation blind for the wealthy elite. Some of the past presidents have done this too, but Bush has completed the mission of bankrupting America and leaving it destituted. Most likely the economy will collapse as Bush leaves office in January 2009.

You’re right blimp. They are right now building the rafts they are going to use to come across the ocean (that no longer protects us) to attack our shores.

The terrorists are already here. They are us. We have become our enemy.

    Therein lies the rub.

Assuming a Democratic victory in 2008, any subsequent terrorist attacks will be blamed on the Democrats, even though Bush has neglected “homeland security” throughout His reign.

Assuming a Republican victory in 2008, any subsequent attacks will be justification for invoking Bush’s May 9 order and declare an emergency and institute martial law, voiding the Constitution.

I call it Bush’s Total War Against Terror. This is one Bush that has [expletive deleted] the whole world.

Excellent way to put it – “the tip of the iceberg”. It wasn’t the tip that sank the Titanic, it was the rest of berg…

  23. paean to lying criminals says:

oh thankyou oh wise and wonderful george bush and dick cheney for using your extensive wisdom to promote and spread terrorism worldwide. If not for your genius oh masterful masterminds, terrorists would be in far more disarray and not be in a position to spread their death and suffering worldwide. But you two, along with all the other war-is-the-only-way neocons have used your superior intelligence, great cognitive skills, and sophistication to out smart the terrorists, forcing them to become a coordinated threat worldwide. For this we will be forever in debt to you.

  25. Joe D. says:

Sow the wind, reap the whilrwind. Chimpie and his crew invaded Iraq, supposedly in part for Saddam’s complicity in 9/11. Who knows how many innocent Iraqis have died?
In the years to come, innocent Americans are going to suffer an early death, as revenge for chimpie’s invasion. As sure as God made little green apples, or rain for Georgia, it will happen. And the beltway whores will tell us all what barbarians are those revengefull Iraqi terrorists, even as they admit they are doing the same thing was done to Iraqis by chimpie’s crew.

  26. Jo-Ann says:

The most ironic part of this scenario, is that American tax money, and George Bush’s fantasies have enabled the training and seasoning of these mental migets.

  27. Jo-Ann says:

Oops, I mean midgets. Protests are in order to create political pressure to get out of Iraq.

  28. pleuge says:

And the beltway whores will tell us all what barbarians are those revengefull Iraqi…

No they won’t. Once the bushliar-criminal regime is forced to redeploy out of Iraq, for every terror event worldwide, the beltway whores will tell us that if only we had continued the fight in Iraq; if America hadn’t lost its nerve, if only a majority of Americans weren’t traitors, glorious victory would have been ours.
    .

  29. the republic of stupidity says:

Who knows how many innocent Iraqis have died?

Ya know, Joe D, so damned few people ever mention the Iraqi civilian toll, even when they bother to lament the number of American soldiers killed. I personally find this disgusting and frightening. How can you invade another country, kill probably multiple hundreds of thousands of its population, and somehow ignore this fact completely while feeling sorry for yourself because your ill-conceived plans didn’t work out… “I believe they will greet us as liberators, I really do”.

    JUST… DISGUSTING…

What are Americans turning into when they can ignore the deaths of 100s of 1000s of people that are the direct result of our leaders’ actions and simply feel sorry for ourselves because what we did didn’t work the way some of us fantasized it would?

I heard that doddering old monster Paul Harvey made a comment a couple of weeks ago to the effect that as far as he was concerned, there were no Iraqi civilian deaths over there. Would that include 5 yr old children and 70 yr old women, Paul? Paul? Paul?

Hmmm, must be busy, having his Depends adult diapers changed.

  30. greenie says:

I don’t give a shit what the beltway whores say about my doubts about this war. Anyway the crapola is cut, it is Bush/Cheney & Company which provided a live fire training ground for jihadists worldwide. To hell with Hannity, Weiner-Savage and the likes and especially screw anybody who still supports the dogma spewing forth from the White House.

  34. J says:

It’s funny, whenever people on here want to argue against the war the main reason is that we aren’t doing anything over there. Then when a report comes out saying that terrorists are in Iraq, they have been in Iraq, and now they are coming out its the President’s fault because he doesn’t care (even though he’s repeatedly made a point to say our troops are fighting terrorism in Iraq only to be made fun of).

The real point is that terrorists have been in Iraq and we need to be there fighting them and helping to establish a government that can operate for the Iraqi people.

  35. KingCranky says:

Not Iraq, but Afghanistan was where Harvey lamented even reporting the deaths of Afghanistan civilians, including children

Sick, vile bastard, and I completely agree with your outrage about the lack of empathy for the Iraqis whose “liberator” has proved even more deadly than the decades-long US backed dictator he supposedly “liberated” the Iraqis from

Unless W’s talking about car and suicide bombers, groups no doubt ruthlessly suppressed under Saddam’s Ultra-Evil dictatorship, and groups no doubt thankful for W’s ability to be led around by the nose like the most docile of sheep, unable to think for itself strategically other than focusing on his immediate desires

  36. greenie says:

Ah J you are so full of balderdash. The REAL POINT is that pinheads like you can’t accept the truth that our President is not only a non-reflective, anti-intellectual coward , but an empty vessel whom the NeoCons have filled full of half-baked political theories which amount to a trillion dollar crap shoot with loaded dice at the expense of our military and America’s citizenry to say nothing of our national treasury. By the way J, I assume you do have a DD214 in your possession? I do.

  37. Mr. President says:

This is good, cuz if the shiteaters are leaving Iraq that means they feel that there are better opportunities ot eat shit else where, so maybe there is progress being made. Also the more they disperse the less concentrated their effect will be, and they will not be so overwhelming.

  38. dantheman says:

Ah… Let us now reflect on the legacy of George W Bush and the Conservatives. Terrorism for all. Equal opportunity terrorizers. No child left free from terror. Either you’re with the terrorists, or you’re against them. Terror is on the march. We’ll smoke them out from their caves so they can spread thorughout the world.

  39. J says:

No Greenie I chose education instead military service so I have no discharge papers in my possession. I am glad, however, that you answered my fact based observation with personal attacks on my intelligence as well as making opinion based allegations against the President’s foriegn policy; your actions prove my original arguement that no matter what some people will never be happy no matter what President Bush does and will attack him pointlessly.

Have a nice Memorial Day Greenie, thank you for your service.

  40. Jason Baddo says:

well. I’d be hob nobbing it out of Iraq too and be mad as hell, aiming at america of course for losing my family, home & everything else. The hornet’s do eventually come back & sting…only america can’t see this coming
