Bush spewed his hate filled diatribe today, so he wants more US soldiers to die in Iraq and elsewhere. Americans must wake-up to demand that Bush be removed from the presidency.
“At least 3,813 U.S. soldiers have died in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.”
I am glad that you said “at least” because I suspect that the number we are fed is not the true number. The Bush administration only counts the soldiers who die on the ground in Iraq. If they die on a helicopter on the way to Germany, they don’t count. If they die later from injuries they sustained in Iraq, they don’t count. If they take their own lives due to the mental problems they are suffering after watching their friends blown up, they don’t count.
I believe if we did a true count of all the military who are dead because of the Iraq occupation the number would easily be double. The same with the number injured.
My thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the 3813+, and specifically the son of a former boss, killed in Iraq two years ago; and with the families of the dead and injured, resulting from the shootout in my town a week ago.
There are no names of Fox pundits’ kids or relatives on the list, Neocons kids are also not there on the list….
These people ,instead, making good money out of this war like Wolfowitz and others like him…
Politicians also who keep voting for this war and spend billions of dollars on it…have no kids on this ‘list of the fallen’, or even in Iraq; but they keep talking about how sacrifices of others are important.
Appalling that ANYONE should die in a war at all in our age of knowledge and understanding.
We’ve evolved these massive brains capable of solving such terrific problems and finding such incredible (and peaceful) solutions.
Brains able to explore the universe and know how most of it works.
Brains able to send humans into flight – out of our environment and to another celestial body (the moon, and soon Mars).
Brains that have solved cancer (even if the cure is withheld from us).
Brains able to dissect an atom that we cannot even see.
Brains able to compose music, poetry, literature, art.
And when faced with a conflict, we ignore these wonderful brains we have and instead choose this? War? Death? Destruction?
Jay,
the repugnican “patriots” are outside waving their flags, exhibiting their love of country – that’s all they do. Lip service. Rally ’round the flag with Bush. Feel-good but meaningless activity.
Just like the Fox pundits who have no stake in this war except that their stock portfolio looks better.
Real patriots are looking for ways to get our troops out of that bottomless pit of death in Iraq, and back home safe and sound.
Take note of Kate Henry at #5
She tells the truth. The number of dead accounts only for the ones killed in action. Those who die later are not counted.

Americans must wake up and realize that many of these military people are dying because we are fighting a liberal war! We have the most powerful military the world has ever known. This war should have been over 5 years ago but no, the liberal press knocks every little dirty thing these kids have to do in the face of survival! You people sicken me!

Rank and Organization: Master Sergeant, Detachment B-56, 5th Special Forces Group, Republic of Vietnam. Place and Date: West of Loc Ninh on 2 May 1968. Entered Service at: Houston, Texas June 1955. Date and Place of Birth: 5 August 1935, DeWitt County, Cuero, Texas. Master Sergeant (then Staff Sergeant) Roy P. Benavidez United States Army, who distinguished himself by a series of daring and extremely valorous actions on 2 May 1968 while assigned to Detachment B56, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), 1st Special Forces, Republic of Vietnam. On the morning of 2 May 1968, a 12-man Special Forces Reconnaissance Team was inserted by helicopters in a dense jungle area west of Loc Ninh, Vietnam to gather intelligence information about confirmed large-scale enemy activity. This area was controlled and routinely patrolled by the North Vietnamese Army. After a short period of time on the ground, the team met heavy enemy resistance, and requested emergency extraction. Three helicopters attempted extraction, but were unable to land due to intense enemy small arms and anti-aircraft fire. Sergeant Benavidez was at the Forward Operating Base in Loc Ninh monitoring the operation by radio when these helicopters returned to off-load wounded crewmembers and to assess aircraft damage. Sergeant Benavidez voluntarily boarded a returning aircraft to assist in another extraction attempt. Realizing that all the team members were either dead or wounded and unable to move to the pickup zone, he directed the aircraft to a nearby clearing where he jumped from the hovering helicopter, and ran approximately 75 meters under withering small arms fire to the crippled team. Prior to reaching the team’s position he was wounded in his right leg, face, and head. Despite these painful injuries, he took charge, repositioning the team members and directing their fire to facilitate the landing of an extraction aircraft, and the loading of wounded and dead team members. He then threw smoke canisters to direct the aircraft to the team’s position. Despite his severe wounds and under intense enemy fire, he carried and dragged half of the wounded team members to the awaiting aircraft. He then provided protective fire by running alongside the aircraft as it moved to pick up the remaining team members. As the enemy’s fire intensified, he hurried to recover the body and classified documents on the dead team leader. When he reached the leader’s body, Sergeant Benavidez was severely wounded by small arms fire in the abdomen and grenade fragments in his back. At nearly the same moment, the aircraft pilot was mortally wounded, and his helicopter crashed. Although in extremely critical condition due to his multiple wounds, Sergeant Benavidez secured the classified documents and made his way back to the wreckage, where he aided the wounded out of the overturned aircraft, and gathered the stunned survivors into a defensive perimeter. Under increasing enemy automatic weapons and grenade fire, he moved around the perimeter distributing water and ammunition to his weary men, reinstilling in them a will to live and fight. Facing a buildup of enemy opposition with a beleaguered team, Sergeant Benavidez mustered his strength, began calling in tactical air strikes and directed the fire from supporting gunships to suppress the enemy’s fire and so permit another extraction attempt. He was wounded again in his thigh by small arms fire while administering first aid to a wounded team member just before another extraction helicopter was able to land. His indomitable spirit kept him going as he began to ferry his comrades to the craft. On his second trip with the wounded, he was clubbed from additional wounds to his head and arms before killing his adversary. He then continued under devastating fire to carry the wounded to the helicopter. Upon reaching the aircraft, he spotted and killed two enemy soldiers who were rushing the craft from an angle that prevented the aircraft door gunner from firing upon them. With little strength remaining, he made one last trip to the perimeter to ensure that all classified material had been collected or destroyed, and to bring in the remaining wounded. Only then, in extremely serious condition from numerous wounds and loss of blood, did he allow himself to be pulled into the extraction aircraft. Sergeant Benavidez’ gallant choice to join voluntarily his comrades who were in critical straits, to expose himself constantly to withering enemy fire, and his refusal to be stopped despite numerous severe wounds, saved the lives of at least eight men. His fearless personal leadership, tenacious devotion to duty, and extremely valorous actions in the face of overwhelming odds were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflect the utmost credit on him and the United States Army.
Rank and organization: Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army, Company B 1 5th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division. Place and date: Near Holtzwihr France, 26 January 1945. Entered service at: Dallas, Tex. Birth: Hunt County, near Kingston, Tex. G.O. No.. 65, 9 August 1945. Citation 2d Lt. Murphy commanded Company B, which was attacked by 6 tanks and waves of infantry. 2d Lt. Murphy ordered his men to withdraw to prepared positions in a woods, while he remained forward at his command post and continued to give fire directions to the artillery by telephone. Behind him, to his right, 1 of our tank destroyers received a direct hit and began to burn. Its crew withdrew to the woods. 2d Lt. Murphy continued to direct artillery fire which killed large numbers of the advancing enemy infantry. With the enemy tanks abreast of his position, 2d Lt. Murphy climbed on the burning tank destroyer, which was in danger of blowing up at any moment, and employed its .50 caliber machinegun against the enemy. He was alone and exposed to German fire from 3 sides, but his deadly fire killed dozens of Germans and caused their infantry attack to waver. The enemy tanks, losing infantry support, began to fall back. For an hour the Germans tried every available weapon to eliminate 2d Lt. Murphy, but he continued to hold his position and wiped out a squad which was trying to creep up unnoticed on his right flank. Germans reached as close as 10 yards, only to be mowed down by his fire. He received a leg wound, but ignored it and continued the single-handed fight until his ammunition was exhausted. He then made his way to his company, refused medical attention, and organized the company in a counterattack which forced the Germans to withdraw. His directing of artillery fire wiped out many of the enemy; he killed or wounded about 50. 2d Lt. Murphy’s indomitable courage and his refusal to give an inch of ground saved his company from possible encirclement and destruction, and enabled it to hold the woods which had been the enemy’s objective.

Citation: Master Sergeant Gordon, United States Army, distinguished himself by actions above and beyond the call of duty on 3 October 1993, while serving as Sniper Team Leader, United States Army Special Operations Command with Task Force Ranger in Mogadishu, Somalia. Master Sergeant Gordon’s sniper team provided precision fires from the lead helicopter during an assault and at two helicopter crash sites, while subjected to intense automatic weapons and rocket propelled grenade fires. When Master Sergeant Gordon learned that ground forces were not immediately available to secure the second crash site, he and another sniper unhesitatingly volunteered to be inserted to protect the four critically wounded personnel, despite being well aware of the growing number of enemy personnel closing in on the site. After his third request to be inserted, Master Sergeant Gordon received permission to perform his volunteer mission. When debris and enemy ground fires at the site caused them to abort the first attempt, Master Sergeant Gordon was inserted one hundred meters south of the crash site. Equipped with only his sniper rifle and a pistol, Master Sergeant Gordon and his fellow sniper, while under intense small arms fire from the enemy, fought their way through a dense maze of shanties and shacks to reach the critically injured crew members. Master Sergeant Gordon immediately pulled the pilot and the other crew members from the aircraft, establishing a perimeter which placed him and his fellow sniper in the most vulnerable position. Master Sergeant Gordon used his long range rifle and side arm to kill an undetermined number of attackers until he depleted his ammunition. Master Sergeant Gordon then went back to the wreckage, recovering some of the crew’s weapons and ammunition. Despite the fact that he was critically low on ammunition, he provided some of it to the dazed pilot and then radioed for help. Master Sergeant Gordon continued to travel the perimeter, protecting the downed crew. After his team member was fatally wounded and his own rifle ammunition exhausted, Master Sergeant Gordon returned to the wreckage, recovering a rifle with the last five rounds of ammunition and gave it to the pilot with the words, “good luck.” Then, armed only with his pistol, Master Sergeant Gordon continued to fight until he was fatally wounded. His actions saved the pilot’s life. Master Sergeant Gordon’s extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest standards of military service and reflect great credit upon him, his unit and the United States Army.

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving as Rifle Squad Leader, 4th Platoon, Company K, Third Battalion, Seventh Marines (Reinforced), Regimental Combat Team 7, First Marine Division (Reinforced), on 14 April 2004. Corporal Dunham’s squad was conducting a reconnaissance mission in the town of Karabilah, Iraq, when they heard rocket-propelled grenade and small arms fire erupt approximately two kilometers to the west. Corporal Dunham led his Combined Anti-Armor Team towards the engagement to provide fire support to their Battalion Commander’s convoy, which had been ambushed as it was traveling to Camp Husaybah. As Corporal Dunham and his Marines advanced, they quickly began to receive enemy fire. Corporal Dunham ordered his squad to dismount their vehicles and led one of his fire teams on foot several blocks south of the ambushed convoy. Discovering seven Iraqi vehicles in a column attempting to depart, Corporal Dunham and his team stopped the vehicles to search them for weapons. As they approached the vehicles, an insurgent leaped out and attacked Corporal Dunham. Corporal Dunham wrestled the insurgent to the ground and in the ensuing struggle saw the insurgent release a grenade. Corporal Dunham immediately alerted his fellow Marines to the threat. Aware of the imminent danger and without hesitation, Corporal Dunham covered the grenade with his helmet and body, bearing the brunt of the explosion and shielding his Marines from the blast. In an ultimate and selfless act of bravery in which he was mortally wounded, he saved the lives of at least two fellow Marines. By his undaunted courage, intrepid fighting spirit, and unwavering devotion to duty, Corporal Dunham gallantly gave his life for his country, thereby reflecting great credit upon himself and upholding the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty:Sergeant First Class Paul R. Smith distinguished himself by acts of gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty in action with an armed enemy near Baghdad International Airport, Baghdad, Iraq on 4 April 2003. On that day, Sergeant First Class Smith was engaged in the construction of a prisoner of war holding area when his Task Force was violently attacked by a company-sized enemy force. Realizing the vulnerability of over 100 fellow soldiers, Sergeant First Class Smith quickly organized a hasty defense consisting of two platoons of soldiers, one Bradley Fighting Vehicle and three armored personnel carriers. As the fight developed, Sergeant First Class Smith braved hostile enemy fire to personally engage the enemy with hand grenades and anti-tank weapons, and organized the evacuation of three wounded soldiers from an armored personnel carrier struck by a rocket propelled grenade and a 60mm mortar round. Fearing the enemy would overrun their defenses, Sergeant First Class Smith moved under withering enemy fire to man a .50 caliber machine gun mounted on a damaged armored personnel carrier. In total disregard for his own life, he maintained his exposed position in order to engage the attacking enemy force. During this action, he was mortally wounded. His courageous actions helped defeat the enemy attack, and resulted in as many as 50 enemy soldiers killed, while allowing the safe withdrawal of numerous wounded soldiers. Sergeant First Class Smith’s extraordinary heroism and uncommon valor are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the Third Infantry Division “Rock of the Marne,†and the United States Army.

We are making progress though, only 26% of “American†Muslims think homicide bombings in defense of their cult is acceptable.
I have a memorial on my blog, if anyone would like to leave the name of a veteran in your family. It doesn’t matter which war they were in or even if they were in a war, as long as they are veterans. There is also a very moving video on the post. Please stop by and remember our fallen.

Now there’s an inconvenient truth! The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates 5-600 highway deaths this Memorial Day weekend. Almost 45,000 last year alone! 2.7 million Injured, all tragic and needless. But deaths and injuries are more tragic and needless in our Armed Forces? When our soldiers were conscripted into the military they probably weren’t told that there might be a risk. And of course they would be too stupid to know that. We lost almost 60,000 KIA and who knows how many injured to an ill-conceived democrat adventure called Viet Nam. We had no business there. We are now in a struggle of cultures which you may ignore at your peril. What size burka do you or your women need? They should be available on allaakbar.com soon.

#60,
The chance of dying in a highway accident over the period of 1 year is .015%, that of dying in combat is .72%. If one uses statistics to support a risk, the base must be considered.

In our culture, and most of the modern cultures, going after someone who has attacked you FIRST is acceptable. I personally don’t think it should be done for revenge, but for justice. As in, stopping him from doing it again.
But they didn’t go after Osama – they pre-emptively (which violates international law)went after a third world country without an Air Force. Do you see our frustration? We supported an action to stop Osama – not an action to let Osama run around free while we waste lives, efforts and dollars on creating a civil war.

You fear a small handful of people who are going to kill people. Usually themselves. The ’stop loss’ program of the G W Bush administration included military included people who had put in their 20 years and had been retired for over a year.
You liberals have cornered the market on tripe! These people enlisted knowing that they might have to go off and fight a war. Isn’t that what they are trained to do?
No beefeater, I’m saying that the G W Bush Admin is not willing to live up to its obligations and our nation’s commitments. Life is not fair when a billionaire pays less in taxes the I do.
#87 – michael,
Their training has been compromised because the training at home is not happening. Weapons systems have changed since 2003. The basic philosophy of the Bush Admin is to give a soldier a new weapon or resource and let the person learn to use in conflict. Another tactic is to refuse to implement the technologies that have been designed to improve their survival rate; i.e., better armored vehicles.
They did go after him and continue to this day. Are we suppose to deploy our entire military to track down one man? Our military is not trained for that. They are trained to kill the bad guy!
Hey Juan C Would you please go over to Baghdad and Educate the Terrorist so I can listen to your screams and watch your head rool across the floor on Youtube ? Please .

Funny stuff, being you the ones that invaded a country and now bitch about how your soldiers are being treated by people there.
“You fear a small handful of people who are going to kill people. Usually themselves. And you think the way to fight them is by letting Osama run loose and getting our troops killed in a country that had nothing to do with radical Islam? Though, thanks to you guys, radical Islam is officially the new Iraqi motto. Great job with the democracy building… Sheesh..

Now there’s a novel take on the situation. If nothing else, liberals are a constant source of fantastic ways of making wrong/bad seem ok/good. Thanks for the laugh, unbe. ;)
Not really. Sending a couple troops out there isn’t really an effort.
“Are we suppose to deploy our entire military to track down one man?
No one suggested that.
But it would have been nice if they’d thought about leaving Iraq alone and focusing on Saddam. You did hear Bush say that he didn’t know where Osama was and didn’t think about him right?

Millett, Company E, distinguished himself by conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty in action. While personally leading his company in an attack against a strongly held position he noted that the 1st Platoon was pinned down by small-arms, automatic, and antitank fire. Capt. Millett ordered the 3d Platoon forward, placed himself at the head of the 2 platoons, and, with fixed bayonet, led the assault up the fire-swept hill. In the fierce charge Capt. Millett bayoneted 2 enemy soldiers and boldly continued on, throwing grenades, clubbing and bayoneting the enemy, while urging his men forward by shouting encouragement. Despite vicious opposing fire, the whirlwind hand-to-hand assault carried to the crest of the hill. His dauntless leadership and personal courage so inspired his men that they stormed into the hostile position and used their bayonets with such lethal effect that the enemy fled in wild disorder. During this fierce onslaught Capt. Millett was wounded by grenade fragments but refused evacuation until the objective was taken and firmly secured. The superb leadership, conspicuous courage, and consummate devotion to duty demonstrated by Capt. Millett were directly responsible for the successful accomplishment of a hazardous mission and reflect the highest credit on himself and the heroic traditions of the military service.

Just in from a weekend of Americana. Lots of camping, parades, small towns, flags, and the like. My kids really enjoy it and met and interacted with many vets and families of vets. Everyone was warm and welcoming. Glad you too had the chance to share in the honoring of the great servicemen and servicewomen of the USA. Didn’t see any flag burning or blind rage but I did see a few folks who seemed to be Muslim. How can I tell which ones want to kill me? I wasn’t sure. They were really good at blending in and seeming to enjoy the festivities as well. I wish now I had just killed them and got it over with. Shit, I wouldn’t want them following me home and all. The true count is between 65 – 70 thousand. But they spend too much time watching the fat dyke rosie! I don’t know where they got this figure from but I’ve heard many loons quoting it!
A team of American and Iraqi epidemiologists estimates that 655,000 more people have died in Iraq since coalition forces arrived in March 2003 than would have died if the invasion had not occurred.

Miyamura, a member of Company H, distinguished himself by conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty in action against the enemy. On the night of 24 April, Company H was occupying a defensive position when the enemy fanatically attacked threatening to overrun the position. Cpl. Miyamura, a machine gun squad leader, aware of the imminent danger to his men unhesitatingly jumped from his shelter wielding his bayonet in close hand-to-hand combat killing approximately 10 of the enemy. Returning to his position, he administered first aid to the wounded and directed their evacuation. As another savage assault hit the line, he manned his machine gun and delivered withering fire until his ammunition was expended. He ordered the squad to withdraw while he stayed behind to render the gun inoperative. He then bayoneted his way through infiltrated enemy soldiers to a second gun emplacement and assisted in its operation. When the intensity of the attack necessitated the withdrawal of the company Cpl. Miyamura ordered his men to fall back while he remained to cover their movement. He killed more than 50 of the enemy before his ammunition was depleted and he was severely wounded. He maintained his magnificent stand despite his painful wounds, continuing to repel the attack until his position was overrun. When last seen he was fighting ferociously against an overwhelming number of enemy soldiers. Cpl. Miyamura’s indomitable heroism and consummate devotion to duty reflect the utmost glory on himself and uphold the illustrious traditions on the military service.

Place and date: Chau Doc Province, Republic of Vietnam, 31 January and 1 February 1968. Entered service at: Denver, Colo. Born: 14 December 1944, West Point, N.Y. Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. S/Sgt. Dix distinguished himself by exceptional heroism while serving as a unit adviser. Two heavily armed Viet Cong battalions attacked the Province capital city of Chau Phu resulting in the complete breakdown and fragmentation of the defenses of the city. S/Sgt. Dix, with a patrol of Vietnamese soldiers, was recalled to assist in the defense of Chau Phu. Learning that a nurse was trapped in a house near the center of the city, S/Sgt. Dix organized a relief force, successfully rescued the nurse, and returned her to the safety of the Tactical Operations Center. Being informed of other trapped civilians within the city, S/Sgt. Dix voluntarily led another force to rescue 8 civilian employees located in a building which was under heavy mortar and small-arms fire. S/Sgt. Dix then returned to the center of the city. Upon approaching a building, he was subjected to intense automatic rifle and machine gun fire from an unknown number of Viet Cong. He personally assaulted the building, killing 6 Viet Cong, and rescuing 2 Filipinos. The following day S/Sgt. Dix, still on his own volition, assembled a 20-man force and though under intense enemy fire cleared the Viet Cong out of the hotel, theater, and other adjacent buildings within the city. During this portion of the attack, Army Republic of Vietnam soldiers inspired by the heroism and success of S/Sgt. Dix, rallied and commenced firing upon the Viet Cong. S/Sgt. Dix captured 20 prisoners, including a high ranking Viet Cong official. He then attacked enemy troops who had entered the residence of the Deputy Province Chief and was successful in rescuing the official’s wife and children. S/Sgt. Dix’s personal heroic actions resulted in 14 confirmed Viet Cong killed in action and possibly 25 more, the capture of 20 prisoners, 15 weapons, and the rescue of the 14 United States and free world civilians. The heroism of S/Sgt. Dix was in the highest tradition and reflects great credit upon the U.S. Army.

Born: 27 October 1942, Trenton, N.J. Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Sfc. Zabitosky, U.S. Army, distinguished himself while serving as an assistant team leader of a 9-man Special Forces long-range reconnaissance patrol. Sfc. Zabitosky’s patrol was operating deep within enemy-controlled territory when they were attacked by a numerically superior North Vietnamese Army unit. Sfc. Zabitosky rallied his team members, deployed them into defensive positions, and, exposing himself to concentrated enemy automatic weapons fire, directed their return fire. Realizing the gravity of the situation, Sfc. Zabitosky ordered his patrol to move to a landing zone for helicopter extraction while he covered their withdrawal with rifle fire and grenades. Rejoining the patrol under increasing enemy pressure, he positioned each man in a tight perimeter defense and continually moved from man to man, encouraging them and controlling their defensive fire. Mainly due to his example, the outnumbered patrol maintained its precarious position until the arrival of tactical air support and a helicopter extraction team. As the rescue helicopters arrived, the determined North Vietnamese pressed their attack. Sfc. Zabitosky repeatedly exposed himself to their fire to adjust suppressive helicopter gunship fire around the landing zone. After boarding 1 of the rescue helicopters, he positioned himself in the door delivering fire on the enemy as the ship took off. The helicopter was engulfed in a hail of bullets and Sfc. Zabitosky was thrown from the craft as it spun out of control and crashed. Recovering consciousness, he ignored his extremely painful injuries and moved to the flaming wreckage. Heedless of the danger of exploding ordnance and fuel, he pulled the severely wounded pilot from the searing blaze and made repeated attempts to rescue his patrol members but was driven back by the intense heat. Despite his serious burns and crushed ribs, he carried and dragged the unconscious pilot through a curtain of enemy fire to within 10 feet of a hovering rescue helicopter before collapsing. Sfc. Zabitosky’s extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the U.S. Army.

Wetzel was going to the aid of his aircraft commander when he was blown into a rice paddy and critically wounded by 2 enemy rockets that exploded just inches from his location. Although bleeding profusely due to the loss of his left arm and severe wounds in his right arm, chest, and left leg, Sp4c. Wetzel staggered back to his original position in his gun-well and took the enemy forces under fire. His machinegun was the only weapon placing effective fire on the enemy at that time. Through a resolve that overcame the shock and intolerable pain of his injuries, Sp4c. Wetzel remained at his position until he had eliminated the automatic weapons emplacement that had been inflicting heavy casualties on the American troops and preventing them from moving against this strong enemy force. Refusing to attend his own extensive wounds, he attempted to return to the aid of his aircraft commander but passed out from loss of blood. Regaining consciousness, he persisted in his efforts to drag himself to the aid of his fellow crewman. After an agonizing effort, he came to the side of the crew chief who was attempting to drag the wounded aircraft commander to the safety of a nearby dike. Unswerving in his devotion to his fellow man, Sp4c. Wetzel assisted his crew chief even though he lost consciousness once again during this action. Sp4c. Rank and organization: First Sergeant, U.S. Army, Company C, 508th Parachute Infantry, 82d Airborne Division. Place and date: Holzheim, Belgium, 29 January 1945. Entered service at: Wilkinsburg, Pa. Birth: Braddock Township, Pa. G.O. No.: 75, 5 September 1945. Citation: He distinguished himself by gallant, intrepid actions against the enemy. After advancing 15 miles in a driving snowstorm, the American force prepared to attack through waist-deep drifts. The company executive officer became a casualty, and 1st Sgt. Funk immediately assumed his duties, forming headquarters soldiers into a combat unit for an assault in the face of direct artillery shelling and harassing fire from the right flank. Under his skillful and courageous leadership, this miscellaneous group and the 3d Platoon attacked 15 houses, cleared them, and took 30 prisoners without suffering a casualty. The fierce drive of Company C quickly overran Holzheim, netting some 80 prisoners, who were placed under a 4-man guard, all that could be spared, while the rest of the understrength unit went about mopping up isolated points of resistance. An enemy patrol, by means of a ruse, succeeded in capturing the guards and freeing the prisoners, and had begun preparations to attack Company C from the rear when 1st Sgt. Funk walked around the building and into their midst. He was ordered to surrender by a German officer who pushed a machine pistol into his stomach. Although overwhelmingly outnumbered and facing almost certain death, 1st Sgt. Funk, pretending to comply with the order, began slowly to unsling his submachine gun from his shoulder and then, with lightning motion, brought the muzzle into line and riddled the German officer. He turned upon the other Germans, firing and shouting to the other Americans to seize the enemy’s weapons. In the ensuing fight 21 Germans were killed, many wounded, and the remainder captured. 1st Sgt. Funk’s bold action and heroic disregard for his own safety were directly responsible for the recapture of a vastly superior enemy force, which, if allowed to remain free, could have taken the widespread units of Company C by surprise and endangered the entire attack plan.

Ah, once again, liberal’s true colors shining through. See, Johnny boy, in this country the liberals try never to say anyone was justified in celebrating the deaths of thousands of innocent Americans who were just minding their own business, trying to make a living when some evil, slimeball muslims hijacked airplanes and crashed then into buildings. Lots of folks in this country still get really upset about that and they have precious little patience for liberal blather about feeling sorry for the terrorists. So liberals walk gingerly around this subject.

WASHINGTON, July 25 (HalliburtonWatch.org) — Halliburton announced on Friday that its KBR division, responsible for carrying out Pentagon contracts, experienced a 284 percent increase in operating profits during the second quarter of this year.
The increase in profits was primarily due to the Pentagon’s payment of “award fees” for what military officials call “good” or “very good” work done by KBR in the Middle East for America’s taxpayers and the troops.
Despite the scandals that plague KBR’s military contracts, the Pentagon awarded $70 million in “award” fees to the company, along with four ratings of “excellent” and two ratings of “very good” for the troop logistics work under the Army’s LOGCAP contract.
The Pentagon has provided preferential treatment to Halliburton on a number of occasions, including the concealment from the public of critical reports by military auditors.

As the number of US soldiers killed since the invasion rises past the 3,000 mark, and President George Bush gambles on sending in up to 30,000 more troops, The Independent on Sunday has learnt that the Iraqi government is about to push through a law giving Western oil companies the right to exploit the country’s massive oil reserves.

Those of us willing to accept the results of the Lancet study (i.e., the 650,000+ Iraqi civilian deaths) as a distinct possibility and even a probability can quote newspaper articles, too. Check out The Guardian Unlimited at http://www.guardian.co.uk. In an article date 3/28/07 (3 weeks after your article), Richard Horton reports:
“When these recommendations went to the prime minister’s advisers, they were horrified. One person briefing Tony Blair wrote: ‘Are we really sure that the report is likely to be right? That is certainly what the brief implies?” A Foreign and Commonwealth Office official was forced to conclude that the government “should not be rubbishing the Lancet’.
The prime minister’s adviser finally gave in. He wrote: ‘The survey methodology used here cannot be rubbished, it is a tried and tested way of measuring mortality in conflict zones’.”

And I am well aware that you can find a quote (or stat) to support just about any position. ;) While the Guardian (liberal publication) believes the methodology cannot be “rubbished,” the authors are anti-war and they refused to answer questions about the study. I believe I’ll wait for more reliable corroboration of the numbers before I start throwin em around, my animated friend.

I’m not placing blame on any political group. I’m merely pointing out that on a day when we should be remembering our veterans, stuff like this is happening.
I am not going to rush to judgement on WHO did this (as to party or political beliefs), but it is a disgusting act of cowardice.

“If we are mark’d to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God’s will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires.
But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England.
God’s peace! I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more methinks would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man’s company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is call’d the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam’d,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say ‘To-morrow is Saint Crispian.’
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say ‘These wounds I had on Crispian’s day.’
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he’ll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words-
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester-
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb’red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne’er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day. ”
That is truly disgusting, sadly it happens all the time Chris….What also break’s my heart is there are people dieing all over the world in war’s as I type..Creating more fallen soldier’s and citizens..Peace and Blessings

“No WMDs”: we would have known for sure had Sadaam cooperated with the U.N. now wouldn’t we? Remember the U.N.? The organization that would practically be running the U.S. if liberals had their way. Oh wait, you’d consider that a good thing wouldn’t ya. Never mind.
“No Saddam ties with Al-Qaeda”: none that can be proven but obvious ties to other terrorist groups
“fabricated proofs for going into war”: definitely
“you are in the loser side”: war isn’t over yet, so we aren’t sure.
Just calm yourself, buddy. Everything will be ok. ;) (Sorry, couldn’t resist)

I guess I should assume you were lying when you said this:
“I’m saying that the G W Bush Admin is not willing to live up to its obligations and our nation’s commitments. Life is not fair when a billionaire pays less in taxes the I do.”
Hey tarazan Shitforbrains
The last time I checked we still had an all volunteer military even though the Democrats want to bring the draft back to life . Perhaps all these children of Liberals joined the military because of all the liberal Hate America Crap they have had to endure from thiei Parents , so why don’t you go steal some flags off of soldiers graves and burn them like the did in Washington State and Boston
07/01/04 “AFP” — WASHINGTON: The US Congress, the domed bastion of democracy in the capital of capitalism, abounds with deep-pocketed politicians whose fortunes have made the legislative branch of government a millionaire’s club.
In the 435-member House of Representatives, 123 elected officials earned at least one million dollars last year, according to recently released financial records made public each year.
Next door in the ornate Senate, whose blue-blooded pedigree includes a Kennedy and a Rockefeller, one in three people are millionaires. By comparison, less than one per cent of Americans make seven-figure incomes.
The American greenback is bipartisan, filling the pockets of liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans without discrimination. Liberal stalwart and Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy, brother of the late John Kennedy, disclosed that he has 45 million dollars in the bank. West Virginia Senator John Rockefeller, also a Democrat, reported to have earned 80 million dollars.
The Senate is also home to Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry, whose wife Teresa Heinz inherited 500 million dollars when her previous husband, senator John Heinz, of the ketchup empire, died in a plane crash in 1991.
The Senate has always been home to the country’s richest elements, and the rising cost of election campaigns has led both parties to encourage self-sufficient candidates to run for public office, boosting the number of wealthy elected officials, analysts say.
“There tend to be more rich people in the Senate,” said Richard Baker, the Senate’s historian. “It has always been the case.” Representatives and senators tend to hold lucrative jobs – attorneys, doctors and company executives.
“Members of Congress are recruited not from (an) ordinary cross section of America occupations,” said Thomas Mann, a Congress expert at the Brookings Institution, a Washington think tank.
“There has been an increasing tendency for parties to seek out individuals who can self-finance at least part of their campaigns, and that has over time led to more wealthy people serving in Congress,” Mann said.
For instance, New Jersey’s Jon Corzine, a former chief executive of Wall Street giant Goldman Sachs, spent more than 60 million dollars, a record, in his successful senate bid in 2000.
The richest person in the House of Representatives is California Democrat Jane Harman, who reported assets worth more than 160 million dollars. Next in line is Amo Houghton, a New York Republican who reported 150 million dollars.
In the Senate, Majority Leader Bill Frist, a Tennessee Republican and heart surgeon, unveiled a fortune worth 45 million dollars. His Senate foe, Minority Leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota, is among the “poorest” officials.
Daschle disclosed earnings of less than one million dollars in addition to his 171,900-dollar a year Senate salary. Lower ranked senators are paid 154,700 dollars a year.
In the House, Bill Thomas, the Republican chairman of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, which has oversight of taxation (or the pockets of average Americans), has one of the most modest financial disclosures. The California Republican reported no assets or investments, just his 157,000-dollar House salary and the value of his home.

May 28th, 2007 at 11:41 amBush spewed his hate filled diatribe today, so he wants more US soldiers to die in Iraq and elsewhere. Americans must wake-up to demand that Bush be removed from the presidency.
May 28th, 2007 at 11:45 am“At least 3,813 U.S. soldiers have died in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.”
May 28th, 2007 at 11:58 amMy thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the 3813+, and specifically the son of a former boss, killed in Iraq two years ago; and with the families of the dead and injured, resulting from the shootout in my town a week ago.
May 28th, 2007 at 12:05 pmThere are no names of Fox pundits’ kids or relatives on the list, Neocons kids are also not there on the list….
These people ,instead, making good money out of this war like Wolfowitz and others like him…
Politicians also who keep voting for this war and spend billions of dollars on it…have no kids on this ‘list of the fallen’, or even in Iraq; but they keep talking about how sacrifices of others are important.
May 28th, 2007 at 12:07 pmKate you are correct.
The military has a KIA classification and a DOW (died of wounds) classification. (There’s another for accidental death but I forget the acronym.)
Unless they report both numbers, we don’t know the real death toll in Iraq.
And we will never really know the horrendous Iraqi civilian death toll.
May 28th, 2007 at 12:11 pmAppalling that ANYONE should die in a war at all in our age of knowledge and understanding.
Appalling.

May 28th, 2007 at 1:10 pmthe repugnican “patriots” are outside waving their flags, exhibiting their love of country – that’s all they do.

May 28th, 2007 at 1:49 pmFor conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty:Sergeant First Class Paul R.

May 28th, 2007 at 5:03 pmMILLETT, LEWIS L.
Rank and organization: Captain, U.S. Army, Company E, 27th Infantry Regiment. Place and date: Vicinity of Soam-Ni, Korea, 7 February 1951. Entered service at: Mechanic Falls, Maine. Born: 15 December 1920, Mechanic Falls, Maine. G.O. No.: 69, 2 August 1951. Citation: Capt.

Rank and organization: Corporal, U.S. Army, Company H, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. Place and date: Near Taejon-ni, Korea, 24 and 25 April 1951. Entered service at: Gallup, N. Mex. Birth: Gallup, N. Mex. G.O. No.: 85, 4 November 1953. Citation: Cpl.

Rank and Organization: Staff Sergeant, U.S. Army, U.S. Senior Advisor Group, IV Corps, Military Assistance Command. Army.

Rank and organization: Sergeant First Class (then S/Sgt.), U.S. Army, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Place and date: Republic of Vietnam, 19 February 1968. Entered service at: Trenton, N.J. Army.

Wetzel was serving as door gunner aboard a helicopter which was part of an insertion force trapped in a landing zone by intense and deadly hostile fire. Sp4c. Sp4c. Wetzel displayed extraordinary heroism in his efforts to aid his fellow crewmen. His gallant actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the U.S. Army and reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of his country.

That is certainly what the brief implies?” A Foreign and Commonwealth Office official was forced to conclude that the government “should not be rubbishing the Lancet’.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,,2044157,00.html#article_continue
The prime minister’s adviser finally gave in. He wrote: ‘The survey methodology used here cannot be rubbished, it is a tried and tested way of measuring mortality in conflict zones’.”

“If we are mark’d to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God’s will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne’er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day. ”
– Wm. Shakespeare, King Henry V

Okay, you are right, but I live in the midst of red necks who believe that the people of the world are inferior unless they have blonde hair and blue eyes.

Ya know walt, I’ve personally been associated with literally thousands of conservatives over the years and I’ve never seen a skinhead except on television. Apparently they aren’t common among average American conservatives. That must be because they are sort of a radical fringe group. Which would seem to make your comment a bit of a *gasp* smear. Hmmm, imagine that.

Skinheads exist. I’ve seen and heard them in my little piece of heaven called Idaho. Just because YOU have never seen them, except on the tee vee, doesn’t mean they haven’t inflicted themselves on society.
But guess what? They got chased out of Idaho, and they have learned to “pass” in ordinary society. They might be your brand new Christian neighbors!
And here you are…..all worried about the Muslims.
Heh.

Now, zooey, there ya go again, misinterpreting what I said. I didn’t deny that they exist. I was just making sure walt was aware that skinheads aren’t common among your average conservatives. Folks around here us that neo con term to describe anyone to the right of them so often it seems to take in everyone from conservative dems to nazis. And I know walt doesn’t want to give the wrong impression about anyone, being a fair minded progressive and all.
May 29th, 2007 at 12:12 amAlso, skinheads are no more Christians than you are. You could call yourself a Christian right now, but it wouldn’t make it so. Same with them. So they would have to be my new atheist neighbors claiming to be Christians.
Dream on…..

Walt is a genius. His father was a genius. For real. Some members of his family are geniuses. I know cuz I have personal communication with him. Look at every post made by him and see that he doesnt engange in any little squirmish like we do, for example. So, in my opinion, Walt is more aware than any of us. You can type your little faces with ASCII and laugh all you want, but the fact is that you are wrong as you were wrong from the beginning and will continue to be wrong. No matter how much you want me to be a moron, you are wrong. No WMDs, No Saddam ties with Al-Qaeda, fabricated proofs for going into war…you are in the loser side.

My, my, my, aren’t we in a snit! For all your fawning over walt, walt’s post suggested a position that was misleading. Walt isn’t perfect is he? Nor was his father, nor his other family members. And I don’t WANT anyone to be a moron. Not a good thing for the human race. Unfortunately, some people prove I don’t get what I want.
May 29th, 2007 at 1:32 amKindly name at least 3 billionaires who paid less taxes than you did in 2006.
I guess I should assume you were lying when you said this:
“I’m saying that the G W Bush Admin is not willing to live up to its obligations and our nation’s commitments. Life is not fair when a billionaire pays less in taxes the I do.”

Perhaps all these children of Liberals joined the military because of all the liberal Hate America Crap they have had to endure from thiei Parents , so why don’t you go steal some flags off of soldiers graves and burn them like the did in Washington State and Boston

Millionaires fill US Congress halls
By Jean-Louis Santini
