UPDATE: The link above is to a new piece comparing Bush’s poll numbers to those of other presidents, but the 28 percent number isn’t new. (Sorry Atrios.)
For the record, I care. Congress can lose the war on terrorism. The “free preview” in the link posted above ends with “Those ratings are still better than the marks President Jimmy Carter received in July …”
The man who takes his advice from cut-and-runners like Perle and Wolfowitz, imbeciles like Rumsfeld and Bremer, and pathological liars like Rove and Cheney and he wonders why his approval rating is 28%? An unpopular President escalating an already unpopular war with no end in sight–at least Bush will have this 28% cheering him on as he strolls toward the end of his term ready to hand the mess he made to the next President to “lose.”
No problem Bush’s polls could be zero and still Americans will let the crime wave continue. Our troops are being killed in larger numbers no problem.
We’ll see 300 to 600 soldiers killed a month for Americans and White House no problem. If the election for President were on the same day as the voting for American Idol well Bush would continue to be President as Americans would rather vote for an American Idol. As for the Dems poll numbers it doesn’t matter. As most of the people testifying in the Congress hearing the GOP is setting up a one party system. All the DOJ and Branches of Govenment and Supreme Court will follow the Republican law. Yes a one party system and if your not with us your against us is the new Constitution.
For the record, I care. Congress can lose the war on terrorism.

For the record: BULLSH!T.
The war on terrorism was lost the minute there was no criminal investigation into 9/11. Before that, we still had a chance. The real terrorists are the War Profiteers, and you are either too stupid or too blind or too much a slave to authoritarianism to see and understand.
Our entire government is subserviant to their Corporate Masters. We the People are allowed to live at their leisure.
Congress’ approval is so low because people want them to do MORE to STOP BUSH!! 70% of people oppose the war, and substantial majorities/pluralities side with the Dems on every single major issue. If Congress would do more that the people approve of, then they’d be more popular.
If you can’t see that, you’re not opening your eyes.
They lie for a reason–to influence the populace. And 28% (+or- a few) still back this maniac. That is Rove’s legacy. Well done, good luck with your many future indictments. We won’t miss you.
The man who takes his advice from cut-and-runners like Perle and Wolfowitz, imbeciles like Rumsfeld and Bremer, and pathological liars like Rove and Cheney and he wonders why …
When I read this post I thought it was about Jake, but then realized it was about Bush. Little matter, however, since they both belong to the same collective.
“What’s the approval rating of the Democratic Congress?”
What is the personal approval rating of each individual member of Congress, dear heart?
In any case, as already noted above, your question is a non sequitur. Bush’s approval rating is his responsibility alone and he’s now entering historic territory.
What’s the approval rating of the Democratic Congress?

Personally I think that this whole stupid Republicans vs. Democrats rhetoric, is complete load of nonsense designed to keep the “unwashed masses” at each other’s throats, while we are robbed blind. Both party’s are populated with the rich elite, who look out for the interest of their class, and not the working class.
However, if you really insist on playing this stupid game, here are the stats…

You are absolutely right! I do not approve of what congress is doing because they are not doing ENOUGH to stop Bush and his band of liars and thieves.
If one wants to review actual polling numbers, check out this link:
About 30% of Germans supported Hitler up to the day he committed suicide in his bunker in Berlin. Basically about 1/3 of any nation are gullible people who seem to like being ruled by a savage leader.

Because millions of us don’t want to leave the troops hanging in the wind, that’s why.
Comment by Jake — May 30, 2007 @ 1:33 am
No, Jake, YOU want them where they are: trapped in an ENDLESS occupation in a country in the midst of a deadly civil war! You and the rest of your murdering, warmongering, mindless 28% want ANOTHER year to go by with DEAD troops EXCEEDING the nearly 1,000 YOU KILLED this past year.
You belong in a cell next to our current corrupt president on Gitmo, for aiding that coke-head, numbskull in his killing spree and his CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY!
Yaknow….this is more telling when you actually sit down and read it.
Jake, your idol? 48% of people polled found him to be ‘poor’, and 22% found him to be ‘meh’ (only fair). 22% found him to be good, and 7% found him to be excellent (lemme guess. You’re part of that 7%?). Lastly, only 2% of people surveyed couldn’t make a decision about Bush.
Now, what about that Congress you like to bash?
Thankfully, we have _three_ sets of numbers there. Congress as a whole:
3% think they’re doing very good.
24% think they’re doing good.
43% think they’re doing fair.
27% think they’re doing poor.
4% Undecided
I can agree with them. This congress definitely gets a ‘meh’ from me. But looking at those numbers compared to your boy George’s numbers — as many people think Bush is doing _BAD_ as Congress is doing ‘Meh’. I can agree there. Congress is on my Sugar Honey Ice Tea list thanks to this last bill, but BUSH has had the perpetual place at #1 on that list. And now, to REALLY deflate your little bubble.
Republicans in Congress:
3% of people find them to be doing an excellent job.
20% of people find them to be doing a good job.
41% of people find them to be doing a fair job.
33% of people find them to be doing a poor job.
4% undecided
Sliding more to that area of Presidential Dislike.
And Democrats?
5% excellent (+2% over Republicans, +2% over Congress)
29% good (+9% over Republicans, +5% over Congress)
34% fair (-7% under Republicans, -9% under Congress)
24% poor (-9% under Republicans, -3% under Congress)
7% undecided
Analysed this way, Congress is a far cry better than Bush, and I can appreciate those numbers.
What about Nancy Pelosi, you say?
5% excellent (fancy that…matches Democrats in Congress)
25% good
33% Fair
23% Poor
14% Undecided
What have we got here? Well, looks like most people are only lukewarm on Pelosi. Strangely enough, a decent selection of them don’t know what to make of her yet (this makes sense).
And Harry Reid, the guy you guys love to hate?
2% Excellent
19% Good
35% Fair
17% Poor
26% Undecided
Yeah, he only has 21% between Excellent and Good (’Positive rating’) 35% + 17% is 52% ‘unfavorable’ (I still take umbrage at this…’fair’ is not unfavorable. ‘Fair’ to me is pulling a C in a course. Yes, it’s not good, but I’d rather a C than a D or heavens no, an F). But when you break that down, most people think he’s OK…just OK, mind you, but still OK. And a big chunk, bigger than any other category but ‘Fair’, doesn’t know what to make of him. And a stinging slap on the face of those who are Bush supporters — If you add Pelosi’s 17% poor rating to Reid’s 23%, you’re STILL 8 points below Bush’s poor rating of 48%. Oooh….that stings. So whose rating is actually worse?
Now, for you trolls. Every time you spout this bullshit about the
Democrats having a lower approval rating than President Bush, I’m going to repost this, wherever I see it. Everyone else? Spread this around. Let the world in general see the difference between the approval ratings, and emphasize that the Republicans and President Bush have much higher poor readings than the Democrats. This is the only way we’ll be able to triumph over this bullshit.
================================================
Now, how I wish they’d rate a President or a Congress would be by Grade-Point Average. Ask someone to give each person a letter grade from A to F. A = Excellent, B = Good, C = Fair, D= Poor and F = Failing. Intuitive, and we’re all used to it. My grades and some comments:
Sec. of State Rice: I (Incomplete)
She gets a massive ding because she’s associated with Bush,
and she has this nasty habit of saying stupid things. However,
Secretary of State isn’t a job that stands out and I’d have to do
heavy research to give her an ABCDF grade. If Pressed, I’d give
her a U (Unsatisfactory), but I can’t give her a weighted grade
at this point.
President Bush: F
A Presidency marked by secretive assaults on personal liberties,
a rollback on the progress of Science, and the abdication of our
place as country to be respected, even if we fuck up. We will be
spending years undoing what this cretin has done.
Vice President Cheney: F-
There is not enough vitrol in the world to give Cheney what he so
richly deserves. This man is everything that is wrong with the
Republican Party and American Citizens in general — hateful, spite-
ful, above the law, and foul-mouthed. If I could give him a grade
below F, I would.
Democrats in Congress: C-
This grade is lowering. Every day the Democrats cave into the
Republicans is a day that they get closer to joining the
Republicans. Time to start using the tricks the Republicans used,
and mastering the skill of public relations.
And speaking of the Republicans…
Republicans in Congress: D-
They are enabling the policies of Bush and are being obstruction-
ists. If it wasn’t for the Democrats, the national wage would still
be $5.15, we’d be looking at a ‘Defense of Marriage Amendment’
filtering down the ranks of the state assemblies, and Bush would
have had his blank check a long time ago
Congress in general:
Just average the Republicans and Democrats if you want this
grade.
Speaker Pelosi: C
Her fortunes rise and fall with her party. She gets a slight (0.3
GPA) boost because she didn’t cave with her party, but she could
have had a higher grade if she only said no to Bush’s Bill and
taken the risk that the Republicans would have said bad things
about her
Senator Reid: D+
Too much like an Elephant in Donkey Clothing for my tastes, and
he has the stench of corruption on him. And, unlike Pelosi, he
voted for Bush’s little spending bill.
If you read the WSJ article above, the are spiinning W’s bad ratings as well, not so bad, after all Carter’s was lower, they fail to see that Carter did not bring the country to the brink or destroy his own party.
“Among other individuals included in the poll, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) saw her approval rating fall to 30% in April from 38% in February, shortly after her swearing-in as the first female House speaker. Approval for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) slipped to 22%, from 23% in February but up from 19% a year ago.”
Since this thread is about the President’s approval rating, I think the comparable 27% approval rating for Congress as a whole is indeed a relevant statistic. Thank for the info — I could not access the pay-per-view part of WSJ.
The results of a new poll of American Muslims was just released, and a full 74% of them don’t want to stab you in the groin and eat your eyeballs. It can thus be said that Muslims in America have integrated into society much better than many have feared (you don’t want to see the poll results on that for Muslims in Europe, though).
I can probably get 28% of all voters to agree that the national anthem be replaced with the Macarena. 28% doesn’t even get you invited to prom. 28% is guessing randomly on a multiple choice test.
28%?? For a party that claims to represent a majority of Americans, what does it say that almost a majority of their own party hates their leader?
62: That wasn’t in the pay-per-view section, Jake. Try clicking on the links before spewing your masters’ talking points.
66: They aren’t? last time I checked, they are between 33% and 50% of the total House and within a sliver of 50% of the Senate. And contrary to what your masters were wanting to do with the Democrats in the 109th, the 110th is standing up for its principles and letting them have their voice. Regardless, even if the Democrats didn’t, your masters’ faceman in the Whitehouse, Bush, ensures they still have their power by threatening to veto everything that comes out of the 110th Congress. No position of power? Somebody, whose name starts with a letter and ends with two digits, doesn’t understand how their system of government is supposed to work. I guess that’s why he supports the theory of the Unitary Executive, cause these whole Checks and Balances things are so hard to understand, yaknow?
Where is this aleged 28%????
I know lots of People who voted for & supported this buffoon.
Notice I use the past tense because not a single one of em’ is so stupid as to not finally see through the crap to the boondoggle.
I know we’ve got paid shills on this board who still blindly support Bush.
As far as I know that doesn’t even count & the rest are simply argue hounds who love to get people’s goats (I’ve got a couple buddies that go on blogs just to inflame & piss People off so I know they’re out there).
I simply can’t find a real person who still supports Bush…
“The results of a new poll of American Muslims was just released, and a full 74% of them don’t want to stab you in the groin and eat your eyeballs.”
LOL… Still going with the discredited talking points, dear? You do realize that polls of the general American public show that the U.S. public as a whole scored worse on such questions than did U.S. Muslims, right?
You know, in a way it’s comforting to see Jake pop his misshapen head out from where he’d been hiding for so long. I see he’s even trying to resurrect his 75-year-old-Korean-War-vet persona. And of course, Jake wouldn’t be Jake if he didn’t wander off-topic and try to distract from the truth of Bush’s dismal poll numbers.
I’d like to thank the Bush cultist named Jake for mindlessly rushing to his keyboard to ask “What’s the approval rating of the Democratic Congress?”
This gave fact-based posters the opportunity to site the polls showing that Congress has better approval than Bush. Another question: how many times in the last 50 years has Congress had a higher approval rating than a President? Bush cultists are not going to like the answer.
OK, Timmy’s post at #61 is just another example of the weasily way Bush cultists will search for the answer they want to find. Little Timmy is quoting a Wall Street Journal article from over a month ago. In the mean time, two other major polls (AP-Ipsos and Diago-Hotline) have found Pelosi’s approval ratings to be 45 and 40% respectively.
Timmy, most of the posters here are quite familiar with Google. Take your silly, dishonest games somewhere else. They don’t really work here. As liberals, we tend to be fact-based in our discussions.

May 30th, 2007 at 5:45 amNancy Pelosi’s approval rating is 53%–quite remarkable, since the American media has not given the Democrats a fair shake in at least 15 years.
May 30th, 2007 at 6:34 amWho won American Idol?
May 30th, 2007 at 7:55 amActually, the 28% approval was skewed upward by simpatico votes in Ohio; these are the same dead people who voted for him in 2000 & 2004
May 30th, 2007 at 8:01 amBecause millions of us don’t want to leave the troops hanging in the wind, that’s why.
PUKEY, IGNORANT TROLL, Jake! UNDER THE BRIDGE!
May 30th, 2007 at 8:35 amDear God, did I just say “OUR current corrupt president?”
I meant “…YOUR current corrupt president…,” meaning PUKEY, IGNORANT TROLL, Jake, and the rest of the murdering, warmongering, mindless 28%!!
May 30th, 2007 at 8:43 amYaknow….this is more telling when you actually sit down and read it.
================================================
May 30th, 2007 at 9:46 amToo much like an Elephant in Donkey Clothing for my tastes, and
he has the stench of corruption on him. And, unlike Pelosi, he
voted for Bush’s little spending bill.
If you read the WSJ article above, the are spiinning W’s bad ratings as well, not so bad, after all Carter’s was lower, they fail to see that Carter did not bring the country to the brink or destroy his own party.
May 30th, 2007 at 9:49 amI guess re-election is out of the question.
May 30th, 2007 at 10:01 am“Among other individuals included in the poll, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) saw her approval rating fall to 30% in April from 38% in February, shortly after her swearing-in as the first female House speaker. Approval for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) slipped to 22%, from 23% in February but up from 19% a year ago.”
May 30th, 2007 at 10:07 amJeremy:
Since this thread is about the President’s approval rating, I think the comparable 27% approval rating for Congress as a whole is indeed a relevant statistic. Thank for the info — I could not access the pay-per-view part of WSJ.
May 30th, 2007 at 10:24 amIn other polling news.
The results of a new poll of American Muslims was just released, and a full 74% of them don’t want to stab you in the groin and eat your eyeballs. It can thus be said that Muslims in America have integrated into society much better than many have feared (you don’t want to see the poll results on that for Muslims in Europe, though).
May 30th, 2007 at 10:30 amstill 28% of the populations are alchoholics
May 30th, 2007 at 10:37 ampatrick1
polls show that 100% of American troops shoot kids for fun in Iraq so long as they look military age
May 30th, 2007 at 10:38 amCongressional Republicans aren’t in any position of power. It’s silly to poll them at all.
May 30th, 2007 at 10:44 amI can probably get 28% of all voters to agree that the national anthem be replaced with the Macarena. 28% doesn’t even get you invited to prom. 28% is guessing randomly on a multiple choice test.
28%?? For a party that claims to represent a majority of Americans, what does it say that almost a majority of their own party hates their leader?
May 30th, 2007 at 10:51 amIt does not appear that the Bush team feels polls are relevant. Maybe even the electorate isn’t relevant.
The Bush team seems to have a way of not letting reality interfere with its “vision”. Once the Bush team gets a “vision”, it will “stay the course”.
It is only too bad that the Bush team is managing America’s resources rather than its own personal resources.
May 30th, 2007 at 11:56 am62: That wasn’t in the pay-per-view section, Jake.
May 30th, 2007 at 12:02 pmWhere is this aleged 28%????
May 30th, 2007 at 12:13 pmI know lots of People who voted for & supported this buffoon.
May 30th, 2007 at 12:14 pmYou know, in a way it’s comforting to see Jake pop his misshapen head out from where he’d been hiding for so long. I see he’s even trying to resurrect his 75-year-old-Korean-War-vet persona. And of course, Jake wouldn’t be Jake if he didn’t wander off-topic and try to distract from the truth of Bush’s dismal poll numbers.
It feels like TP again.
May 30th, 2007 at 12:19 pmI’d like to thank the Bush cultist named Jake for mindlessly rushing to his keyboard to ask “What’s the approval rating of the Democratic Congress?”
This gave fact-based posters the opportunity to site the polls showing that Congress has better approval than Bush. Another question: how many times in the last 50 years has Congress had a higher approval rating than a President? Bush cultists are not going to like the answer.
May 30th, 2007 at 12:43 pmOnly 5% of respondents in Iran agreed that the killing of civilians is sometimes necessary. In the U.S., it was 24%.
May 30th, 2007 at 12:46 pmOK, Timmy’s post at #61 is just another example of the weasily way Bush cultists will search for the answer they want to find.
May 30th, 2007 at 1:39 pmPresident Bush: F
Vice President Cheney: F-
Actually both of them would have “EXPELLED for academic fraud” written on their transcripts.
May 30th, 2007 at 4:23 pmgood his ratings equals his IQ
May 30th, 2007 at 5:18 pm
