How dare anyone accuse Sen. Stevens of being a crook. He just got a favor that any other red blooded American would get from an Oil Company big wig. I mean come on, it’s not like he doesn’t make enough money to pay for it himself. You liberals are just jealous because he got a new two story home rather than stay in the one he had. If a politician can’t take a bribe, I mean, donations from a friend, what’s the world coming too. I personally believe Sen. Stevens when he says, “I am not a crook”, or to paraphase President Nixon, “I am not a crook”.

Everytime a Republican pads his pockets, liberals start claiming they are crooks. I mean what’s up with that? You mean a elected official can take an honest bribe anymore? What ever happened to the good ole days, when only half the guys in Washington were on the take. Now a days they pretty much all are on the take.

Sounds like that clown wasn’t one of ‘em.
Lots of historic homes here in town and not much spare open space, so you see it often here. Often the structures were very well built and raising them is a great option that preserves open space.

That is exactly the plan we have for our house!
It is done all the time here in the totally overpriced Bay Area. This will make my $389K house in to a $750K house, We can add a huge living room, a giant kitchen, and another bathroom at least. Making all the existing rooms on the existing floor into bedrooms… Since our house is wood frame construction, and was already raised about 4 ft in the 50s, I have no qualms.
That is if the economy doesn’t tank to the point that we can’t sell it!
This house is our hope for a leg up into the exalted ranks of people who can afford health insurance, vacations etc… wish me luck!

Lifting a house and adding a new first story is not only common but in many cases a great, cost effective idea (not that I defend Stevens in any way) but it is a viable strategy for some remodels.
