One of Scooter Libby’s “most ardent defenders, Richard Carlson, a former chief of the Voice of America who serves as a member of a defense trust set up for Libby,” reacts to Patrick Fitzgerald’s latest filing which again states that Valerie Plame was covert:
I think it’s certainly unseemly that he is kicking him while he’s down. For Fitzgerald, to get on his high horse, it’s disgusting and he should be ashamed of himself.
Richard Carlson is the “bow-tied father of bow-tied television pundit Tucker Carlson” who “sent a courier with a check to Libby’s Virginia home…on the morning of his perjury indictment.”

Was the courier wearing a bow tie too?
May 29th, 2007 at 10:58 pmYeah, it’s always somebody else’s fault.
May 29th, 2007 at 10:58 pmClearly, rotten apples don’t fall far from the tree.
May 29th, 2007 at 11:00 pmSpeaking of Scooter Libby, it turns out that likely GOP presidential candidate Fred Thompson is a charter member of the Scooter Libby Legal Defense Trust. Quite a reversal his days as a hero of the Watergate hearings.
For the sad story of another Republican who no longer believes in “law and order,” see:
May 29th, 2007 at 11:00 pm“Fred Thompson: Watergate Hero Turned Plamegate Villain.”
What a waste of money.
May 29th, 2007 at 11:01 pmRichard Carlson = Felon Enabler & Supporter = Crook
May 29th, 2007 at 11:04 pmyeah to these clowns treason is a trifle.
I wish they would have publically released the “letters of support” that his criminal cronies sent to the judge.
May 29th, 2007 at 11:06 pmRichard Carlson needs to get off of his “high horse,” and get a clue about the type of person he’s helping monetarily.
May 29th, 2007 at 11:08 pmYes it makes since for supporters of the criminal Adminstration to get mad at Fitzgerald for doing the job and keep to the oath he was sworn in to do.
May 29th, 2007 at 11:10 pmNow if he was like the Attorney General who lies under oath and has the selective memory lost problem that would suit the GOP. Plame was a covert agent working to find out if Iran was developing nukes if so how far they had gotten. As the White House leaked her name the operation ended. Now we don’t have a covert agent to get that information. As Plame and her family will live in fear for their lives for the rest of her life.
I notice bow-tie Dad didn’t mention that in his comments. Libby covered up for Cheney and Rove. Libby lied under oath and the jury found him guilty. Fitzgerald and his team did their jobs and now the media and friends of the White House want to attack him for that. I would have thought Monica should have been put in the job, then there would be no charges against Libby or anyone else. An honest lawyer was in charge of the Libby case and that was the White House’s mistake. Tony Snow knows you don’t been and honest lawyer in to investigate GOP, you put a lawyer that’s loyal to the criminal White House as well as loyal journalist so the crime wave can continue. Judge Walton will set Libby sentence at the Max and Bush will have to pardon him or he will go to jail.
He’s mad because Fitzgerald made a pre-sentencing filing with the court?

Heh. It must not have been flattering to Libby.
May 29th, 2007 at 11:21 pmAlthough, presentence investigations are strictly confidential, so Libby must be sharing….
Well, I’m no fan of Don Imus, but he got it right when he called the kid “pussy” Carlson.
May 29th, 2007 at 11:22 pmThe pre-sentencing memo(pdf ) that got leaked.
He made a point connecting to the IIPA statute.
And yeah he is asking the judge to throw the book at him, maximum sentence.

Thaks for the warning on the pdf, Wayne. Do you know if the investigation is signed by Fitz, or a separate investigator? I can’t imagine that Libby leaked this report, unless there are bunch of sappy letters attached. And I can’t imagine Fitz leaked it…..
May 29th, 2007 at 11:47 pmTucker has a father???
Go figure…..
May 30th, 2007 at 12:09 amAnd I can’t imagine Fitz leaked it…..

Probably not Fitz.
But it was filed with the court ( had to be ) and it’s not exactly secret. So Fitz’s staff, the judge and his staff as well as Libby’s counsil could have gotten a copy and leaked.
May 30th, 2007 at 12:12 amLot of possibles.
I need to fix a quote:
“For Carlson, to get on his high horse, it’s disgusting and he should be ashamed of himself.”
I read Fitzgerald’s latest filing and it is purely professional. The lawyers in the Bush adminstration don’t understand Fitzgerald, because he is a real lawyer, whereas they are cracker-jack lawyer-crooks.
May 30th, 2007 at 12:14 amCarlson pere, like Carlson fils, is a well-paid distractionist. His client, Irving Lewis Libby, was convicted by a jury of his peers on four felony counts related to lying about events surrounding the unauthorized disclosure of national security secrets in a time of war. That was after Mr. Libby spent millions of donated dollars in his defense; no public defender for this double Ivy Leaguer.
Were the shoe on the other foot, Carlson be arguing for full disclosure of letters of support by “card carrying members” of the ACLU and PFAW. He would be shouting for the death penalty while giggling and sweating over the prospect that a political enemy might spend three years at hard labor while sharing a small cell with a big guy named Bubba. But then, hypocrisy is a defining characteristic of today’s neocons. The letters in support of Mr. Libby should be disclosed, along with the names of contributors to his legal defense fund.
There is no sound legal basis to allow him to remain free while he pursues his legal appeals. Perhaps it was Mr. Libby that Mr. Cheney had in mind when he told graduating West Pointers that America’s enemies would be quick to attack our Constitution while being the first to demand its benfits when in peril.
Mr. Libby still thinks he did nothing wrong, he was just “following orders”. Pending the outcome of his two to three-year appeals process, Judge Walton should send Scooter to federal prison, where he can explain over and over what his nickname does not mean.
May 30th, 2007 at 12:16 amPunks like Carlson are upset because they thought they could buy a Washington legal dream team that would easily streamroll a lowly federal prosecutor and his handful of assistants. But the gang ran into Fitzgerald, who has closed all the exits and given no quarter. These psychopaths aren’t used to being cornered and tend to lash out to extremes when it happens.

The mob underestimated Fitz as well. LOL.
May 30th, 2007 at 12:34 amRichard Carlson, you juvenile little girl, the truth is the truth. Don’t kick him while he’s down?!?! WTF does that have to do with anything you partisan hack? The truth is the truth. If you weren’t such a corrupt sack of crap, you wouldn’t be so perturbed by the truth. Reich-wingers are children trapped in adult bodies!!!!!!
May 30th, 2007 at 1:06 amLOL — Fitzgerald gave “no quarter” to Karl Rove, huh? Joe Wilson and I must have missed where he was frog-marched out. Does anyone NOT on the “Ignore List” have a YouTube link I can catch up with?
May 30th, 2007 at 1:11 amJake, you are a moron. You still defend an obviously guilty loser. MC Rove is your hero, isn’t he?

What part of “obstruction of justice” don’t you understand, Jake? Seriously. Fitzgerald said, specifically, that he doesn’t have evidence against Karl Rove that he can indict on, same for Cheney and the rest of them, because Libby obstructed his investigation. If Libby wasn’t obstructing justice, Fitzgerald would have been able to continue the investigation, and go after Rove and Cheney, and possibly the PotUS.
You cannot possibly have attended any legitimate law school, or you would know these facts. Obstruction of justice stonewalls investigations, which is why you prosecute anyone who commits obstruction of justice. You know, so that you can either work out a deal and push the investigation through said stonewall, or can at least punish the individuals that are preventing the wheels of justice from turning.

Oh, I get it you two. But we must pull some of the less despicable plays from the Neocon playbook. They repeat lies over and over to “change reality” as they like to call it. We, the truthtellers, must hit them back just as hard, repeating the TRUTH over and over to “keep reality” so to speak. See, the truth has a nasty habit of, well, ringing true. The more you hear the truth, the more the truth is corroborated by other facts and truth. Lies, on the other hand, always come back to bite you in the ass, eventually. Lies need more layers of lies to continue to work. The truth needs only itself, nothing more.
One little thread of truth can unwind the entire ball of lies. So, repeat the truth, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. Never stop repeating the truth. Eventually, the slow, but inexorable march of truth will be heard. The more footsteps heard in that march, the better.
May 30th, 2007 at 1:53 amCarlson family are a wee bit nutty. Father gives checks to criminals and his son pontificates on TV wearing a bow tie.

It’s AMAZING how these azzhole-lickers of TRAITOR Bush GLOAT that Bush and his CRIMINAL cronies have committed TREASON.
Imagine if this had been a DEMOCRAT in a DEMOCRATIC administration.
Carlson, Coulter, Rush, and all of Foxnews would be SCREAMING 24/7 for IMPEACHMENT and PRISON.
The fact that Bush’s azzhole-lickers are SILENT shows that they put PARTY and TREASON about their country, the USA.

I think we are the results of too many lies for Bushco to keep up with. Thats why the DOJ issue has all but blown wide open.
May 30th, 2007 at 2:17 amAlot of things are coming unravelled now.
The truth is always easier to remember than that lie you told last week.
Bah,
I think we are the results of too many lies
Should be:
I think we are seeing the results of too many lies
=P
May 30th, 2007 at 2:59 amMr. Carlson should be ashamed. My best friend was overseas covert at the time. He and his team were jerked out of their assignment and moved. The entire network they had been cultivating died. America is LESS SAFE>
May 30th, 2007 at 6:52 amIt stands to reason that when one officer is outed, many associated people are too. We have no idea how badly this outing disrupted the agency.
I know it disrupted one aspect in particular.
Maybe Mr. Carlson would like to assure his own safety all alone but I wanted the CIA covering my butt. Tooo bad they can’t anymore. Too many associates and covers were blown.
THANKS SCOOTER> heck of a job dude
I think it’s certainly unseemly that he is kicking him while he’s down.
I love it when Republicans whine about facts.
Kick ‘em again!
May 30th, 2007 at 8:58 am.
I still say that the fix was in with Fitzgerald. If he truly believed that Valerie Plame was covert (and it looks like he did) and he had confessions from several administration officials, including Karl Rove, that they had outed her, then why in hell didn’t he try any of them for treason.
One has to remember that Fitzgerald is a RepubliCON appointed by Bush. I believe that the Bush Crime Family either has something on him or made him an offer he couldn’t refuse to go after Libby only. They couldn’t get away with whitewashing the whole thing, so they chose Libby as their sacrificial lamb.
May 30th, 2007 at 9:09 amFitzgerald is actually registered Independent.
May 30th, 2007 at 9:15 amJake–your post about Fitzgerald’s party “registration” is UNTRUE. Check with the IL Board of Elections–I did, after the Dems rolled over on the war funding.
May 30th, 2007 at 9:24 amP.S. to “Moderation”:
I “understand” obstruction of justice. Seriously. Do you understand that someone claimed that Fitzgerald gave “NO QUARTER†to Karl Rove? That means Rove would have been charged regardless of obstruction of justice. Criminal conspiracy, most likely. But, keep in mind, this is just about Karl Rove. Established DoJ policy would have precluded indicting a sitting President or Vice President in any event. Even I know that without attending law school.
May 30th, 2007 at 9:38 amP.P.S. to loretta:
I will believe Mr. Fitzgerald’s statement regarding his registration before I believe yours.
May 30th, 2007 at 9:40 amHeck, I will even trust Huffington Post on that before you:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ ben-schwartz/ patrick-fitzgerald-the-4_b_43326.html
He indeed registered as an Independent, but withdrew that registration when he discovered that was also an official party. According to the Washington Post, he registered to vote without party affiliation in both New York and Illinois. Therefore, Patrick Fitzgerald is not registered to vote in Illinois as a Republican OR a Democrat. He may have changed his status to unaffiliated. Perhaps you’re confusing him with Peter Fitzgerald (no relation), former Republican senator from Illinois?
May 30th, 2007 at 9:46 amno–not at all. It was indicated, however, that PATRICK Fitzgerald was a Republican when he was splashed across all of the papers at the beginning of this thing. There is no party affiliation as related to voter’s registration in Illinois, which I think is his official residence as he IS employed in an official capacity here. You guys really play with the sematics.
May 30th, 2007 at 10:05 amRepublicans love to hoard their stolen money to pay their fleet of lawyers for their whole bag of SIN.
