America’s worst governor.
“Life these days for Gov. Jim Gibbons of Nevada might kindly be described as suboptimal,” the New York Times reports.
In the last few months, Mr. Gibbons, a Republican, announced a plan to turn coal into jet fuel to raise money (problematic, as Nevada has no coal to speak of) and proposed paying for a $3.8 billion shortfall in highway construction money by selling water rights under state highways (it turns out the state did not actually own the rights).
He told a local editorial board he could not pronounce the name of his energy adviser because she was “Indian” — she is Turkish — and vetoed a bill that would stop budget-busting tax breaks for builders of “green” buildings before issuing an executive order to end them anyway (with the exception of four companies).
Mr. Gibbons is the subject of a Federal Bureau of Investigation inquiry into whether he failed to report gifts from a military contractor while serving in Congress. The governor, who would not be interviewed, has denied wrongdoing, and once suggested that Democratic operatives might have paid off newspaper reporters who have written about his troubles with the F.B.I.
No one accuses Gibbons of being uncreative. During his gubernatorial campaign, he said that “liberal, tree-hugging, Birkenstock-wearing, hippie, tie-dyed liberals” ought to be used as human shields in Iraq.

I thought the worst was Governor Butch Otter of Idaho.

“Jumping Jimmy may finally remove Teddy from the top of the worst pick-up list. Teddy at least got his date to the bridge where old Jimmy couldn’t even get out of the parking garage.

But due to no state income tax (thanks casinos!) and a “less taxing” way of life, right wing retirees from Calif. and other states have been selling their overpriced homes over the last 15 years, moving to Nevada, buying a good, cheap new home, and nest-egging the balance. The by-product is that they vote Republican right down the line. The independent, real Nevadans who vote for the best candidate regardless of party are out-gunned. Dead meat. So a moron like Gibbons can call his opponent “Dina Taxes” (the smart, progressive Dina Titus), scare the selfish old fools and “arrivistas,” and get elected. Nevada just ain’t for Nevadans no more.

I have to agree on the Rick Perry comment. Perry is a disgrace to the State of Texas. Our state parks rank 49th out of the 50 states of the Union, and all that bastard is concerned with is building his monstrosity Trans Texas Corridor. I hope that boondoggle never gets off the ground. Perry is nothing more than a lackey of Chimpy McFlightsuit.

Really? Franklin Mountian State Park is #1 in the country. Six out of the top 20 state parks in the U.S. are in Texas. Please cite your source where it states that Texas state parks rank 49th in the U.S.
