There was no way that giving checks to poor people who didn’t have access to jobs was ever going to help them achieve economic stability and success.

Similarly, we’ve failed in Iraq for precisely the same reason. The Massive Government Program To Spread Democracy, Which Couldn’t Possibly Go Wrong turned out to be the wrong tool for that job. There was no way that invading and occupying a country, without involving the locals in any way, shape, or form, and then installing a government that didn’t have the support of the public, was ever going to bring about democratic governance.
