Wearing a pair of sunglasses newly purchased from an Iraqi market, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) said yesterday: “Overall, I would say what I see here today is progress, significant progress from the last time I was here in December. And if you can see progress in war that means you’re headed in the right direction.” Watch the video:
As ThinkProgress noted last night, U.S. soldiers contronted him with a very different message: “We don’t feel like we’re making any progress.” The soldiers wanted to know, “When are we going to get out of here?”

Mr. McGoo sees progress.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:27 amMighty Joe has absolutly no credability with anyone who is not a bootlicking 28%er.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:27 amAnd if you can see progress in war that means you’re headed in the right direction.â€
Wow…we have a genius.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:29 amI think those are blind man’s glasses.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:29 amOh yes, and Geroge W. Bush also thinks progress is being made in Iraq.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:29 amU.S. soldiers contronted him with a very different message: “We don’t feel like we’re making any progress.â€
What would any soldier know about war better than this guy? Get a grip.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:30 amI take it those were rose colored sunglasses he bought
May 31st, 2007 at 11:30 amLIEberman is a Man Without Honor or Credibility.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:30 amLieberman: ‘I see progress.’
Me: ‘I see stupid.’
May 31st, 2007 at 11:31 amI see dead people
May 31st, 2007 at 11:32 am#8 Yep, I think he is really sucking up for a VP slot.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:32 amI like the scroll at the bottom of that screen capture, making the full message: “Sen. Lieberman makes a surprise visit to Iraq…in bathroom”.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:33 am“I see dead people.”
May 31st, 2007 at 11:33 amI bet there’s lots of progress inside the Green Zone, where he’s not wearing a flak jacket and a helmet… and where he’s, from that videotape, about 10 feet from shelter should the whine of incoming shells be heard…
But, when he was outside the Green Zone, surrounded by troops, wearing a flak jacket and helmet….
May 31st, 2007 at 11:33 amThose aren’t sunglasses.
They’re blinders.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:34 amLIEberman, why don’t you jump ship and become a Repuklican. You’ve showed your true colors over the past couple of years. I think you are a disgrace.
For fear of being put in Gitmo, I cannot say what I wish would happen to you.
You suck.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:36 amthe seventh sense: i see dumb people.
bush. lieberman. mccain. fred thompson. giuliani. cheney. romney. etc.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:38 amI hate being put in situations where I’m actually rooting for insurgent snipers….
May 31st, 2007 at 11:40 amDid joe LIEberman pay for that secret iraqi trip out of his own pocket?
if not, he needs to pay it back.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:43 amit’s a McCain Moment, folks!
May 31st, 2007 at 11:46 amLieberman is a punk and a bitch.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:46 amFrag the f*ck.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:47 amJoe is really an Israeli spy.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:47 am“I see dead people.”
that would’ve been more honest a thing to say…

May 31st, 2007 at 11:48 amLieberman: “Life in Iraq is so bright, I gotta wear shades.”
May 31st, 2007 at 11:53 amSenators Lieberman, McCain and Graham like to shop at Iraqi markets few times a year.
Escorted by a good number of US soldiers with Helicopters flying over head to tell us how things are going great overthere.
Now how much in dollars are these trips of photo-ops. is costing taxpayers?
May 31st, 2007 at 11:53 amI guess nobody is doing the ‘adding’.
“He’s as blind as he can be,
May 31st, 2007 at 11:55 amJust sees what he wants to see,
Lieberman, can you see me at all?”
Thanks a lot Connecticut!!!
May 31st, 2007 at 11:55 amGuess the always obnoxious and dishonest Lieberman saw how well that shopping trip in Baghdad worked for McCain and his party and just couldn’t resist going himself. Just spouting his usual bovine excrement. What a waste of space and oxygen!
May 31st, 2007 at 11:57 amI think I know where Joe is coming from. He thinks that if we leave Iraq, violence may spread and threaten the existance of Israel. I believe that may have some truth to it, but denying the reality of on the ground in Iraq is also harmful. He should be working on political and other strategies so that when we do leave, the violence is contained. I think Joe Biden has the best plan so far.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:58 amand threaten the existance of Israel.
Comment by Benny Goldstein
I think the existence of Israel is threatened by Israel.
May 31st, 2007 at 12:06 pmJust another delusional sycopahnt for the Bush crime family cabal.
May 31st, 2007 at 12:34 pmJoe Lieberman says that strolling through Baghdad is more fun than judging the Blackberry Pie competition at the Litchfield County Fair. And I believe him, because Joe Lieberman is a Good Man. George W. Bush looked into his soul and said so.
May 31st, 2007 at 12:34 pmJoe Lieberman: “I see what I want to see”
May 31st, 2007 at 12:44 pmCould American jews be American firsters so long as there’s a state called Israel.
May 31st, 2007 at 12:47 pmThe dancing Israelis who were caught videotaping 911 said on Israeli Tv that they were there to video the event, that proves prior knowledge.
They were released and sent back to Israel by an Israeli citizen who’s now Head of Homeland Security.
Face it folks, less than 3% control the other 97% and we sheeple let them get away with it.
Solution:
All jewish owned businesses must be identified, and a countrywide boycott of those businesses must take place.
If mighty Joe sees progress - would he mind stating what progress would that be?
Progress is being made in what exactly -
- the amount of deaths in the month of May?
- the amount of funds that are being?
- the amount of Iraqi’s dieing each month?
- the amount of electricity the Iraqi’s get daily?
- the amount of oil that was supposed to pay for this war?
- or is it the amount of stupidity that Joe spouts in each interview?
Hating stupid daily
May 31st, 2007 at 12:49 pmLieberman & Chertoff are up to their eyeballs in Israeli plans to dominate the entire Middle East.
Chertoff doesn’t really ‘have time’ for DHS matters; it’s all about Israel.
May 31st, 2007 at 12:53 pmI really do wish Joe would stop sucking up to this president and call the facts as they are. He used to be an excellent senator from my state, but he really made a mistake by painting a rosie senario there. As far as Israel, #32, I was mearly making a guess to what his motivation might be, but this is no need to bash Israel.
May 31st, 2007 at 12:54 pmIf you’re inclined to see “progress” in an overflowing cesspool, OK, sure, I’ll buy that you see progress in Iraq.
May 31st, 2007 at 1:01 pmWhat is most sad about this story is that an IED didn’t get Holy Joe. Maybe with more significant progress his next trip that fantasy of mine can come true.
May 31st, 2007 at 1:05 pmAccording to Lieberman there will always be “progress” in Iraq no matter what happens on the ground. Just like President Cheney, the insurgency will always be in its last throes.
May 31st, 2007 at 1:13 pmWell, when Iraq is ranked last (121st) in the World Peace Index, then I suppose the only way is up - hence the ‘progress’
Bottom 5 (least Peaceful)
117 Nigeria
118 Russia
119 Israel
120 Sudan
121 Iraq
Top 5 (most peaceful)
1 Norway
2 New Zealand
3 Denmark
4 Ireland
5 Japan
The US makes it in at number 96.
May 31st, 2007 at 1:45 pmHey Joe: What U.S. Troops Really Told Sen. Lieberman on His Iraq Visit
The night before, 30 other soldiers crowded around him with questions for the senator.
He wrote them all down. At the top of his note card was the question he got from nearly every one of his fellow soldiers:
“When are we going to get out of here?”

May 31st, 2007 at 1:56 pmJoe of Mesopotamia, with shades, adopts a cool pose as he prepares to run for Lord Mayor of the Baghdad Green Zone.
May 31st, 2007 at 2:09 pmLieberman sez “I see progress.”
I say, “I see an opportunistic rat.”
May 31st, 2007 at 2:10 pmI am thouroughly dismayed that my taxes were used to help pay for Holy Joe’s shopping tour of Iraq. It’s a lot to pour in to make sure he has a new pair of sunglasses.
Of course, if he had also spent his time listening to the main question coming from the troops: “when are we coming home?” and not have been determined to show what a “success” the surge has been, then I might not feel quite as I do.
The closet Republican could have thrown off his protective chest covering to show us how much success we have achieved. Wouldn’t that have been exciting?
Under The LobsterScope
May 31st, 2007 at 2:42 pma gun would have complimented old joe’s flak jacket & helmet, especially if it were pointed at his head. now that’s progress
May 31st, 2007 at 4:05 pmPerhaps those FAUX-kley’s are rose-colored.
Or he has an organic mental disorder. That would explain it, too.
May 31st, 2007 at 4:59 pmLittle joe and grampa macain should team up both have same IQ-0
May 31st, 2007 at 5:44 pmLIEber-trash lies worse than Dubya Dunce Decider Despot Dummy.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:24 pmFrom the video yesterday, all he saw from Baghdad was the back, shoulder with shoulder of the marines protecting him.
June 1st, 2007 at 9:32 ami blame his sunglasses.
