Fired staffers say McCain was anti-religious.

“‘In the end, you came away with the strong sense that they had contempt for the faith-based community,’ says Marlene Elwell, one of those fired staffers. Elwell, a prominent Christian-right activist, was hired by McCain in December 2005 to be national director of his ‘Americans of Faith’ coalition. ‘The way we were being treated it was as if we had leprosy.‘” Doesn’t McCain get any credit for being the first out with a press release on Jerry Falwell’s death?

LOL we already knew that McCain used the rar-right religious freaks just to enhance his run for the presidency.

  2. RoboTroll 3000 says:

    McCain is a strong-on-defense maverick.

Liberals are godless. Ann Coulter said so.

    Bill Clinton had leprosy.

    Heh.

    Don’t screw over the help…..

  4. toasterhead says:

Leprosy? Does this mean John McCain had illegal Mexican immigrants on his campaign staff?

  5. erin says:

I’ve lost all respect for McCain. I respect the fact that he thinks fundamentalists are a joke; I don’t respect the fact that there just another group he’s sold out to in public.

  6. ann says:

When is the religious community going to understand that politicians don’t give a damn about them beyond getting their votes?

#6 – When are the politicans going to understand that they need to quit catering or even pretending to cater to a small sect of the country that has grossly different values than the rest of the country? I mean isn’t some of this catering the reason why W is in office?

  9. Oversight is a Bitch. says:

How will the Republicans’ Christian base react to this? Let’s review, their Presidential candidates are basically:

McCain: : holds the faith-based community in contempt (see above).
Guiliani: : wears dresses and lived with a gay couple
Romney: a Mormon. In 2004, Mormons were specifically excluded from participation in the National Day of Prayer organized by Shirley Dobson (wife of James Dobson) because their theology was found to be incompatible with Christian beliefs.

    This should be fun.

    None of them respects religion.

No religious person could use religion as a cheap political tool to appeal to hateful instincts of homophobes, bigots and xenophobes the way the “Religious” Right does.

  14. whiteyfresh says:

not me personally. One of the patients in the clinic i work at was just told his 2nd transplant(for blood cancer)didn’t take-he’s a couple years YOUNGER than I am. 16. President Clinton says:

YES!!! We welcome you McCain to our party! The party of anti-religion, anti-God!!!

We have always known your true colors. why is TP blogging about this, we should rejoice that another Republican has joined our ranks.

Not only McCain, don’t forget this administration showed their true colors long ago. Neo-cons, all of them, wear religiosity as a badge, duping conservative christians.

  18. Wolftrouble says:

Christian activists claiming discrimination against them!? Now this is a new turn of events!

    Oh wait, no it’s not.

  19. Plantsman1 says:

I’m certainly no fan of McCain, but the him having some disdain for Christian fundie types doesn’t necessarily make him anti-religious. People need to stop thinking of a fundie every time they hear the word “Christian”. They are certainly the squeaky wheels, but they still constitute a minority of Christians in this country.

Unbelievable, son, my left wing sycophant follower, let me tell you. Winning in 2006 is not big accomplishment, according to political history, we were suppose to win in 2006. so winning this past November is not exactly a huge accomplishment for our party. No party has ever kept control of Congress after the President has been in office for two terms. Political historical fact. Take it from me, your master, your god, your President. I know more than you do, my toolish sheep.

Furthermore, we were also suppose to win in 2002 and we didn’t. In fact, we have not won a meaninful Congressional election since….well, for a long time now.

Now, we are able to keep control in 2008 and we win the Presidency, then I would say that you can rejoice. In the mean time, son, please shut up. This is an order coming from your master, your god, your President. The greatest President to ever set foot in the Oval Office rug since JFK, or so Shane (who loves my d*ck tells me so).

The Democrats won because of the liberal movement to grow spines and stand up to bullies. And it’s working. Though, I’m not a Democrat. They are too conservative for me.

No party has ever kept control of Congress after the President has been in office for two terms. Political historical fact.

The past doesn’t necessarily define the future.

Personally, I think we should switch parties as we do – it tends to keep the country moderate, which is a great place from which to serve both sides of the fence.

  40. ann says:

#8 – politicians will continue to pander to the religious right because they do such a great job of voter turn-out on such non-issues as same-sex marriage. And yes, this pandering is part of why GWB is in office. How dare you insult me? your President, the smartest person to ever set foot on the Oval Office rug? You must be the Hillary type. Uneducated, opinionated, and with a pole up your ass. Certainly not mine, since I wouldn’t touch that thing Hillary even if I was paid a million dollars. You probably have the same issues.

Women today, you guys were easier to control and manipulate in the 1990s. Ahhh, those were the days. Oh wait, many of you easily manipulated, silly, emotional, stupid women still believe that I was a god.

    anyway,

    1) Winning in 2006 is not big deal. Democrats were suppose to win, us barely winning and not controling both houses by a bigger margin is a big deal. Once again, after a President has been in office for two terms, he tends to lose Congress by a considerable margin.

    2) We were suppose to win the 2002 elections, we didn’t. This speaks tons about pur party.

    3) Winning in 2006 has nothing to do with any type of Liberal shift in American politics, please kid, open up a book and study. You are giving our cause and our party a bad name. winning in 2006 had to do more with people wanting a new party and being tired of Republicans. We convinced Americans that while we in the Democratic party are evil, we are less evil than the Republidan party. There isn’t a Liberal shift in our society. Trusth me kid, I am the greatest President to ever have step foot on the Oval Office rug, or Shane tells me (she who loves my d*ck) (by the way, do you want to see it, Monica loved it!!!)

    4) Yes, my party, I dictated what you think. All I see you doing is spewing the talking points that we have ordered you to spew. You are a tool for my party, for me, for my wife, my Edwards, Kerry, Kennedy, Pelosi, etc. You are my tool, so stop trying to believe you have an independent thought, because you sound just like my wife. Stop fooling yourself kid. but it is ok, as long as you say what we want you to say, as long as you think as we want you to think, y ou are ok.

    5) Shut the F*ck up? what is this all about, how dare you give an oder to me, a man, your greatest President ever. Shut up woman, before I pimp slap you like I pimp slap all the woman that I did in the Oval Office. I’ll teach you a lesson or two about trying to oder me around, silly woman. Now get down on your knees and suck my d*ck. Moncia did it well, see if you can match her.

Maybe they can say that McCain treated them like his former captors.

Would you STOP torturing me with the Bible already?

    – John McCain, ready to be whatever it is you want me to be, for your vote.

  60. Paul in LA says:

President Clinton apparently can’t decide which propaganda she wants to spread. First she’s talking about ‘our party,’ and then she announces she’s not a Democrat.

Here’s a clue: WE HAVE CAUGHT ROVE AND THE RAPEPUBLICANS STEALING OUR ELECTIONS SINCE 2000.

We have proof that the elections were stolen in 2000, 2002, 2004, and 2006, but HOWARD DEAN’S 50-state strategy brought in enough wins that we took the Congress any way.

And now we have new, honest SecStates in FL, OH, and CA, so the rightwing vote-fraud machine is in serious trouble. Your claim, the claim, that it has anything to do with ‘balls’ is ridiculous. We won in every election since 2000, but the tabulations were rigged. And we will continue winning, especially as that rigging is ripped down, because in fact WE HAVE THE DEMOGRAPHICS ON OUR SIDE FOR DECADES TO COME.

Republicans know they can’t win elections without fraud. That’s why they steal them. And they know that they can’t win with the truth — that’s why they LIE, incessantly.

You seem to be lying, so I’ll presume you’re a Republican. It’s a safe bet, these days.
