The do-over presidency.

The do-over presidency.

Fox News’ John Gibson to Dan Bartlett today: “A lot has happened obviously in the Bush presidency, and there are undoubtedly things that, in private thoughts, people say, I wish I’d done that differently. What would you take as a do-over?” Bartlett: “Well, there’s too many to count now.”

Gibson: “What would you take as a do-over?”

Bartlett: “Well, there’s too many to count now.”

That’s strange… the president couldn’t think of any mistakes he’d made. Nor could the Secretary of State…

No wonder Bartlett had to resign. He just didn’t fit in, I guess.

  3. Tom3 says:

Well, theres too many to count now.

    Too many mistakes.

    Too many laws broken.

Too many of our kids coming home in boxes.

That about sums up Chimpy’s presidency.

  4. KnightErrant says:

So many fuck-ups, so little time.

  7. Jake says:

I would have fired ALL the U.S. Attorneys in 2005.

  8. Namtillaku says:

I wouldn’t do anything over, but I didn’t vote for him either.

  9. marlow says:

Yes, move on past this flaming train wreck of a presidency, never mind the shatterred wreckage and twisted bodies, nothing to see here. Go home and…HOLY CRAP! YOU MEAN HE GOT A BLOWJOB?

  10. Pickles says:

Gibson, the guy who coined the term, “ooga booga fever”? That guy? F ‘em. F Bartlett too.

  11. Jake says:

For the record, the President has stated his trade of Sammy Sousa was a mistake.

  12. Jake says:

Sammy Sousa, great-grandson of John Phillips Sousa, no doubt.

  13. Pickles says:

    Chimpy’s birth was a mistake.

  14. madmac says:

How about the country voting for Gore in 2000!

  15. kelso says:

“What would you take as a do-over?”

Bartlett: Uhh… the 2006 election when our party got a ‘thumpin’.

#15 You forgot to mention the 3,500 innocent lives lost to a war of lies – and add to that the souls of about 600,000 iraqi’s – when this invasion is deemed to be totally “illegal”, then this gang of thugs will be up on charges of “war crimes” by an international war crimes tribunal and that, folks, just isn’t going to be very pretty. I’ll be Dumbya will be able to admit that he’s made at least one very serious mistake when they get hold of him.

  19. CaptainMantastic says:

Before Bartlett, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s resignation last November marks the last major departure from the Bush administration.

Novemeber to June, what is that seven month’s? This administrations crack up may be the slowest in history.

  20. PTF says:

    I’d start with a do-over of the 2000 election.

  21. justice says:

    veritas

I thought that was covered with war crimes, thanks for adding spelling it out is better. I believe the death tolls are even larger than stated but we don’t really know since they won’t report things correctly

  22. KRank says:

    Comment by veritas — June 1, 2007 @ 6:14 pm

No, you’re wrong about that. We’ve got a permanent presence in Iraq, Bush’s military-industrial complex buddies are raking in the dough, and they’ve even gotten the Congressional Dems to bend over and buy into the war. it’s a win-win all around for these guys. Well, except for the troops killed or injured. But then, you know, they volunteered, right?

  23. Jer3saw says:

Can we ask that question to the Supreme Court?
I bet they wished they would have selected Gore instead of Lipps Bush.

  24. Bob says:

The way the guys work, the nearly 3500 KIAs in Iraq would be one mistake, and the nearly 26000 wounded would be one. All those hundereds of thousands of innocent civilians who ‘accidentally’ had their homes and lives destroyed: one mistake.

    Oops, so sorry.

  25. barrelhse says:

Thank god- I thought it was just me who couldn’t keep track of them all.

Here represents the end of the ride!

    http://pressesc.com/01180629622_dollar_falls

The United States dollar is facing imminent collapse in the face of an unsustainable debt, the United Nations warned today.

United States debt, which had now deepened to well over $3 trillion, might turn out to be unsustainable in the rest of 2007 or next, putting further downward pressure on the United States dollar, Rob Vos, the Director of the Development Policy and Analysis Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), told correspondents at a Headquarters press conference.

See you on the other side.

  27. rapier says:

He’s quitting because he can no longer defend the White House in the Justice Department scandal. He should have quit months ago. I suppose he didn’t till they could find a replacement. I’m dying to know who will take this job. Defending the indefensible for the most despised president in history. Not a good gig.

United States debt, which had now deepened to well over $3 trillion, might turn out to be unsustainable in the rest of 2007 or next, putting further downward pressure on the United States dollar, he said. Since its peak in 2002, the dollar had depreciated vis-à-vis the major currencies by some 35 per cent and by 25 per cent against a broader range of other currencies.

Jus lemme lie down here a sec…*snore*

  33. =*= says:

3 Trillion is chump change. There are reports that the U.S. debt is 9 trillion, and that if corporate rules are imposed it’s actually 56 TRILLION, but supossedly 80 % of that is medicaid and Social Security, which some geniuses are arguing shouldn’t count, since they can be, get this, canceled. Then, there’s Walter Burien, who maintains that Uncle Sam actually MADE over 8.2 TRILLION in 1999 ALONE, by thoughtfully investing OUR money for us, and furthermore that they’ve been doing this forevah, but don’t hold your breath waiting to actually receive any of it. Someone has to pay Cheney’s weaponsmaker pals for Cheneys oilwar pals so they can all have more. Wouldn’t want them to go without an ultra deluxe pile, plus a spare, on every continent. Then, of course we must consider that our sole Constitutional Congressional right to issue our U.S. currency was completely ended by Tricky Dick to pay for the brutally expensive Viet Nam adventure, so our buck is somewhat, ah, less than it might be. Oh, and, er, Shrub financed Cheney’s demands by selling us out to China. It’s heartwarming to know we have genuine patriots with good old fashioned family values leading America, n’est ce pas?

  34. katy says:

    i had thought i heard 9 trillion recently…
hard to even comprehend such numbers…

i heard then that 9 trillion dollars
would make 9 million people millionaires…

could that be correct? … oh, my aching head…

  36. justice says:

of course if the US Attorneys had been fired for legitimate reasons and not because they didn’t want to be complict in the crimes the Bush cabal were perpetuating ELECTION FRAUD and stuffing the DOJ and nationwide USAttorney’s offices with Loyal die hard racist neocon christinistas, none of this would be at issue.

you neocons always leave out the FACT that these ARE BUSH APPOINTEES, HIS GUYS. That is why he didn’t throw them out any time previously! Only when they cooked up this hair brain scheme trying to throw the election did they get caught.
You all assumed it would be a “one day story”

    LOL

    oopsie for you
    JAIL JAIL JAIL JAIL
    scooter’s up on Tuesday! WooHoo!
straight to the slammer. Walton, straight to the slammer!

but republicans are crooks, can’t win a fair fight and think cheating is ok (so long as you don’t get caught) all for loyalty to part. You totally lost any shred of patriotism or integrity and now you will pay.

  37. Maeven says:

Before Bartlett, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s resignation last November marks the last major departure from the Bush administration.

Nobody can find Rumsfeld’s letter of resignation (Drudge says it’s been made secret; White House says it doesn’t know where it is and FOI requests have come up with “Can’t locate it”), and according to a couple of sources (Wayne Madsen is one), Rumsfeld appears to still be working in the government out of an office in Virginia.

  38. Jay Randal says:

Gibson just wants to be Bartlett’s secret sex partner, so ignore them.

    …we ARE where we are…

…we must PUNISH those who put us here…

    …before we can move forward…

    …otherwise…

…we remain divided, discouraged, distraught, disgusted, distracted…

    …and ultimately…

    …disunited…

  41. Zooey says:

    Too bad the DEAD don’t get a f*cking do-over.

  42. yathink says:

But war criminals get a pass now in America. Do over this:
“The Apprentice” in the June issue of The American Prospect explains it all. They all need to go to jail, now, not in 2009. Will any Democrat be willing to impeach any of them? Or are we all living in another universe where up is down, war is peace. Oh, right, it’s America in 2007.

  43. Peter Principle says:

You mean Bush and Cheney were there, too?

  44. Jesuit Witch says:

My favorite sequence of telling words: “A lot has happened obviously…” Soooooo, what are you witty folks doing to stop this war? We are getting back out on the street for the summer every Wed. at 5 p.m. here in Flagstaff, Az.
Oh yeah, and if you’re shopping big box, you’re supporting the shitheads obviously.

Maybe instead of being so f*cking snide, you could post a link to more information — we have several commenters in Arizona.

    Thanks.

    Dreamers abound in USi.

  50. chuck says:

“What would you take as a do-over?”

This is what passes for political discourse in this country.

Could we please, please, raise the bar just a little bit higher? I understand the desire to appeal to Joe Blow, but . . . come on. What is this? 2nd grade?

  51. Solomon says:

Congressional Elects being circumvented and bills being passed without being read or debated…
Federal Attorneys being fired for political leanings,
    and replaced with appointees…
Military leaders being fired for political leanings,
    and being replaced by appointees…

    Congressional- Check…
    Judiciary- Check…
    Executive- Check…
The people in outrage over corruption in the system…

I wonder if the government is just getting ready for some political turmoil.

  53. FumbDuck says:

    REVOLUTION IS THE SOLUTION!!!

    Save the Earth
    NUKE ISRAEL!!!

  54. Pitchforks & Torches says:

There will be no revolution. The economy collapsing will take care of this on its own. They’ve ransacked the USA and in fact, the entire world.

The corporations are sitting on $1 Trillion in loose cash right now. I fully expect them to buy back their stocks and take control of their companies when the market adjustment finally arrives. It’s been put off three years longer than I’d expected.

I don’t expect these corporations to thrive, because what’s left of the middle class is living on debt right now. The corporation’s customers are going to be broke soon.

It’s not surprising that things have turned out this way. McKinley, Wilson, Hoover, Nixon, Reagan, and Bush the Elder all tried various ways of pulling off the same sham, but Cheney has been working in the back room for decades setting this up.

Iraq has proven to us that the rich would rather kill than pay taxes. The national debt is not going to be paid back. We’re going to have to live with the consequences, period.

  55. James Gawthrop says:

If only Bush would get a blowjob, or a $400 haircut, or yell YEE-HAW so we could get rid of him. Blowing up the World Trade Center to start a global war of genocide based on race and religion, abolishing habeus corpus, the Magna Carta, the Bill of Rights and the Geneva Convention certainly does not warrant removal from office. These things should be encouraged in the name of freedom.

  56. Tom says:

    Gibson is a bozo.
