First internal assessment of escalation negative.

“Three months after the start of the Baghdad security plan that has added thousands of American and Iraqi troops to the capital, they control fewer than one-third of the city’s neighborhoods, far short of the initial goal for the operation, according to some commanders and an internal military assessment.”

    No shit….

All those dead — troops and Iraqis — for NOTHING.

  2. Wayne A. Schneider says:

How many times do we give them “one more chance”? How many more of our brave heroes must pay the ultimate price for this misguided experiment in world domination? How many more families will suffer the terrible grief of losing a loved one to war? How many people can honestly say that this was for a good cause, when we all know by now that the reasons they gave us for its absolute necessity were lies?

Everyone agrees that as soon as our troops leave, all hell breaks loose and the sectarian violence really takes off. So if that’s the case, why stick around? The Iraqis have been showing little passion for taking over their own security, but why does that mean we have to do it? After all, even under Saddam, there were police and army forces to enforce the law. Why aren’t they willing to do it now for a much more acceptable cause? Why do we have to keep dying on their behalf? And how many more innocent Iraqis will die because we are there?

It’s time to leave Iraq. Now. This minute. This very second. There is no longer any justification for keeping our soldiers there. bring them home – NOW!

You mean the greatest OIL WHORE pResident EVER?

  8. Jay Randal says:

Bush does not care, he just wants Iraq’s OIL. At least Rep. Dennis Kucinich has the balls to say the Iraq occupation is about OIL only.

Where are all the trolls? Seems like this would be a perfect story to draw them. They could complain about how this is great news for the traitors on the left who want America to “loose”.

  12. Jake says:

The first assessment of U.S. troops after the Battle of Kasserine Pass was negative as well. War is hell, people.

  13. Jeff G says:

It is only about the oil. Even ThinkProgress seems to ignore what is going on with the Iraq Hydrocarbon Law. The only mention of it seems to be in the comments section. Wikipedia has more info on it than seems to get covered here. Yet another smoking gun to impeach Bush and Cheney and the Democrats are still looking for their spine.

  14. JPark says:

The first assessment of Custer’s troops after the Battle of Big Horn was negative too. Sometimes losing is losing, especially with losers running the show.

War is hell and occupation is stupid pointless hell.

And you, trolljake, are a small-minded creep who trivializes the sacrifice of American and Iraqi lives with everyone of your trivial and smart-arse posts.

  23. the republic of stupidity says:

The Battle of Kasserine Pass: Significant as the first large-scale meeting of American and German forces in World War II, the green and untested American troops, who were led in an inept manner by their commander…

“who were led in an inept manner by their commander…”
“who were led in an inept manner by their commander…”

So Jake has a point to make after all. He recognizes ineptitude when he sees. Jake, are you suggesting we need to get rid of the Commanderer-In-Chief?

  24. Jake says:

  25. the republic of stupidity says:

    No.

    Comment by Jake

But jake, the commander at the Battle of the Kasserine Pass was in ept and the Army made changes.

Bus is clearly incompetent. Doesn’t that mean we need to make changes if we’re going to win this war?

  26. Willy says:

What in the hell is the matter with terrorist-loving right-wing Bush-enablers like Jake? Bush has given Osama everything he ever dreamed of having: eternal war in the mid-east, bankruptcy of the American treasury, increasing hatred for Americans and lots of American troops for target practice. Bring the troops home now. Stop fueling the fires of hatred towards Americans. Stop using the troops as cannon fodder. Stop the terrorist-loving Republicans.

    Comment by Wayne A. Schneider — June 4, 2007 @ 12:08 am

There are millions, even billions, of reasons to keep our troops in Iraq. They’re called dollar bills; profits; bonuses for CEOs! Poor people’s kids die so rich people’s kids can live a better life.

That’s the “noble cause” Casey Sheehan and thousands of others have died for.

  28. Vinnie says:

    Comment by Jake — June 4, 2007 @ 12:28 am

Then you’d think Georgie would’ve worked a little harder to avoid going to war. In fact, he did the exact opposite. He PUSHED hard and fast to lead us to hell!!

  29. Ben Dover says:

On May 1, 2003, while on board the USS Abraham Lincoln, Chimpy stood in front of a huge banner that proclaimed “Mission Accomplished.” Then on May 31, 2005, Deadeye Dick Cheney proclaimed that the insurgency is “if you will in its last throes.”

    Now the “surge” isn’t working.

You dont suppose Bush and Cheney have been lying to us do you?

  30. hterrya says:

Where is the study group that insisted that a surge, WITHOUT carrying out ALL of the other steps outlined by the group, was DESTINED to FAILURE?

They did their study and then shut up. Did the “decider-in-chief threaten them with death or Gitmo if they didn’t STFU?

What a bunch of “Girlie Men!”

  31. Fan_of_Man says:

negative? from bushco? say it aint so….

who expects anything different from state sponsored terrorism.

  32. trippin says:

Why do these military commanders hate America so much?

  33. Wayne A. Schneider says:

You’re probably right, Briseadh, as usual. It’s too bad that most Americans do not understand that our constitution guarantees us a republic, not a capitalist society.
