And the American people were enormously disappointed in Nixon’s performance by 1975.

As for who I voted or didn’t vote for in 1968, you presume to clairvoyant.
You can’t possibly know who I voted for, so clearly, you have no idea what you’re talking about.

(Hint, A**wipe, I was 15 in 1968.)

But I did vote for Nixon in 1972. And today, if the choice were between Nixon and Bush, I’d take Nixon w/out batting an eyelash. Nixon was paranoid as Hell, but at least he was intelligent, and he didn’t run around telling people that God talks to him.

As for dealing w/ the mess he was dealt by his predecessor, you’ve got that totally right. It was a mess and Johnson was rightfully vilified for it. At the time, the “left”, as fools like you like to refer to it as, hated Johnson completely. He helped get 50,000 plus American soldiers killed in a war that should have never been fought in the first place.

Nixon actually did some good things, like opening up a dialogue w/ China. Other than that, his presidency was a mess, but nowhere near the mess George II is making.

Well, yeah, Nixon had to fix the problem he was dealt by his predecessor, and he didn’t want to make the problem worse by immediately cutting and running. The American people were by all accounts happy with his performance in 1972.

Actually, I was around at the time. LBj was pretty thoroughly vilified at the time, M12. Many, many, many cheered when he chose not to run in 1968.

1969: President Nixon endorses “Vietnamization” of the war, replacing returning US troops with South Vietnamese forces and secretly intensifying bombing of North Vietnam and Viet Minh supply lines inside Cambodia. Marines secretly invade Laos.

Hardly seems like Nixon was saddled w/ a war he didn’t want. he is theo ne who chose to invade cambodia, after all.

As a matter of fact, that cadaverous old ghoul Kissinger is STILL poking around in governmental affairs, isn’t he?
