“Addressing about 100 wide-eyed Wyoming high school students learning about government and the political process,” Vice President Cheney yesterday repeated one of the key fabrications that helped send the United States into war.
During the question and answer session, one student asked, “I was wondering — I’m not trying to start a debate, or anything, but do you still think that the Iraq war can be won?” Cheney immediately answered “yes,” adding, “I think we’re making significant progress now.”
He then launched into a justification of the war, citing the September 11 attacks. “The fact of the matter is Iraq is part of the global war on terror,” he told the students. “And you’ve got to go back and look at what happened on 9/11.” Cheney recounted the tale of the late al-Qaeda operative Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, one of the administration’s great pre-war myths:
The worst terrorist we had in Iraq was a guy named Abu Musab al Zarqawi, a Jordanian by birth; served time in a Jordanian prison as a terrorist, was let out on amnesty. … Then when we launched into Afghanistan after 9/11, he was wounded, and fled to Baghdad for medical treatment, and then set up shop in Iraq. So he operated in Jordan, he operated in Afghanistan, then he moved to Iraq.
The implication that Zarqawi helped justify the war was thoroughly debunked last year by the Senate Intelligence Committee, then chaired by Bush loyalist Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS.) It found:
Saddam Hussein attempted, unsuccessfully, to locate and capture al-Zarqawi and…the regime did not have a relationship with, harbor, or turn a blind eye toward Zarqawi. [p. 109]
Adding insult to injury, earlier in the event, Cheney was asked about the “values or philosophy” he has developed during his 40 years of government service. He answered, “I basically developed a great respect for American history.”

That old gas bas will lie to anyone! I’d love to hear something from any of the students.

June 4th, 2007 at 8:04 pmThere are no words that I can say that will address this problem. The Cheney problem. Other than “resolve.” There is no greater imperative than to remove these neoconservative madmen from the power they hold. We all need to resolve to do that.
Virtually nothing can be accomplished but holding the line until 2009 when we can bring sanity back to this country. Until then, the insanity and megalomania will continue. The lying, the deceit, the flaunting of the people’s will, the corruption and the eroding of the Constitution. All this not to mention the devastation, torture and murder that has been done in our name.
RESOLVE, folks. This is really job 1.

June 4th, 2007 at 8:20 pmThe fact that Cheney refuses to admit the reality of the Iraqi War to our nation’s high schoolers, and moreover to himself, makes me sick. To date, the war has cost over $340 billion dollars—money which could have been spent much more wisely and with better end results. It is estimated, for example, that the expenditure of a mere $19 billion would eliminate starvation and malnutrition worldwide. In a time when the current defense budget is $522 billion, the goal of eradicating world hunger is clearly well within reach. Thus, it is clear that the occupation of Iraq needs to end, and it needs to end now without regard to what this will do to United States interest in Iraq’s oil. There are simply much more important issues that need to be addressed. It’s time that Cheney faces the reality of failure.

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran’s president said on Sunday the Lebanese and the Palestinians had pressed a “countdown button” to bring an end to Israel.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who triggered outrage in the West two years ago when he said Israel should be “wiped off the map”, has often referred to the destruction of the Jewish state but says Iran is not a threat.
“With God’s help, the countdown button for the destruction of the Zionist regime has been pushed by the hands of the children of Lebanon and Palestine,” Ahmadinejad said in a speech.

June 4th, 2007 at 8:32 pmComment by Merlin — June 4, 2007 @ 8:22 pm
Well, Merlin, I don’t know about wizardry, magic, and the such.
When a regular person states his or her opinion (e.g. Cheney: “I think…”), there is no truth-value that can be assigned to that utterance (the statement of opinion).
This is because in order to determine the truth or falsehood of a statement, that statement has to refer to an inter-subjectively verifiable object or objects. The statement can then be verified empirically by observation.
In the blurb that TP has provided above, the author says that cheney repeats one of the many fabrications about iraq, and then a quote is provided in which Cheney is asked is about his *opinions*.
I point out that, there is no way to empirically verify another person’s opinions because they are private thoughts or sensations and are not inter-subjectively observable.
Therefore, to accuse Cheney of stating fabrications by stating his opinions, is utter nonsense.
**This does not mean that Cheney’s opinion’s are factual, however. It only means that we can not say that an opinion is true or false. It is neither.**

June 4th, 2007 at 8:38 pmZarqawi WAS in Iraq.
However the thing that Cheney keeps conveniently leaving out of his insipid rhetoric, is the fact that Zarqawi was harbored by the KURDS (not Saddam) in Northern Iraq.
The one thing they keep avoiding to mention, is the fact that Saddam ran a SECULAR country and Muslims generally despised him.
Zarqawi and the Kurds had found a common enemy in Saddam.
Of course, in keeping with the strange bedfellows, that the US has a history of keeping, the Kurds just so happen to now be OUR allies in the region.
And meanwhile, we find ourselves in this current mess, because most Americans are more concerned with American Idol and Paris Hilton, than they are with keeping informed about such matters as this.

When a regular person states his or her opinion (e.g. Cheney: “I think…â€), there is no truth-value that can be assigned to that utterance (the statement of opinion).
Sorry to let you in on a secret, but Cheney is NOT a regular person. He is the Vice President of the US. His every utterance is taken, and used, by the corrupted MSM, as “truthful” history in the making. Regular people do not have access to the intellegence data and the real goings on behind the scenes that the VP or the President have. Because of this, alone, their thoughts and words are far more than simply opinion. As this administration has said, no one has the right to question the words they utter. “You’re either with us or you’re with the terrorists.” is the way Bush put it.

Given the frequent delusional statements made by Cheney, isn’t there valid cause for concern that he may be in an advanced state of dementia? If he were an airline pilot, hopefully, his employer would require him to undergo neuropsychological testing and a neurological exam to determine if he is suffering from such a condition. His job could conceivably place far more lives at risk than the previously mentioned pilot, so such an examination would be even more critical for someone in Cheney’s position. If the results are negative, then the only other conceivable explanation is that he is a chronic liar. In either case, he shouldn’t be allowed to continue placing millions of lives at risk. So when is the book, “Cheney on the Couch” going to be appearing in the bookstores?

Avoiding attacking suspected terrorist mastermind
Abu Musab Zarqawi blamed for more than 700 killings in Iraq
By Jim Miklaszewski
Chief Pentagon correspondent
Updated: 7:14 p.m. ET March 2, 2004
With Tuesday’s attacks, Abu Musab Zarqawi, a Jordanian militant with ties to al-Qaida, is now blamed for more than 700 terrorist killings in Iraq.
But NBC News has learned that long before the war the Bush administration had several chances to wipe out his terrorist operation and perhaps kill Zarqawi himself — but never pulled the trigger.
In June 2002, U.S. officials say intelligence had revealed that Zarqawi and members of al-Qaida had set up a weapons lab at Kirma, in northern Iraq, producing deadly ricin and cyanide.
The Pentagon quickly drafted plans to attack the camp with cruise missiles and airstrikes and sent it to the White House, where, according to U.S. government sources, the plan was debated to death in the National Security Council.
“Here we had targets, we had opportunities, we had a country willing to support casualties, or risk casualties after 9/11 and we still didn’t do it,†said Michael O’Hanlon, military analyst with the Brookings Institution.
Four months later, intelligence showed Zarqawi was planning to use ricin in terrorist attacks in Europe.
The Pentagon drew up a second strike plan, and the White House again killed it. By then the administration had set its course for war with Iraq.
“People were more obsessed with developing the coalition to overthrow Saddam than to execute the president’s policy of preemption against terrorists,†according to terrorism expert and former National Security Council member Roger Cressey.
In January 2003, the threat turned real. Police in London arrested six terror suspects and discovered a ricin lab connected to the camp in Iraq.
The Pentagon drew up still another attack plan, and for the third time, the National Security Council killed it.
Military officials insist their case for attacking Zarqawi’s operation was airtight, but the administration feared destroying the terrorist camp in Iraq could undercut its case for war against Saddam.
The United States did attack the camp at Kirma at the beginning of the war, but it was too late — Zarqawi and many of his followers were gone. “Here’s a case where they waited, they waited too long and now we’re suffering as a result inside Iraq,†Cressey added.
And despite the Bush administration’s tough talk about hitting the terrorists before they strike, Zarqawi’s killing streak continues today.

You couldn’t be any more of a jackass because of punctuation. You’ve already peaked without it.

Is that a challenge?
You can’t get enough of me, can you?
June 4th, 2007 at 10:47 pmWhy is Cheney at a High School anyways? He should be charged with child abuse for telling teenagers bald-facred lies.
June 4th, 2007 at 10:49 pmbald-faced lies not facred a typo.

Good night to you, nuncle.
June 4th, 2007 at 11:11 pmA give a failing grade to this website on coverage of the missle shield that Cheney wants to shove into Europe. Not on damn word of it. A whole bunch of normal crap. We all know Cheney is a monster, but do you all know how close we are to setting off the big one ? Because Cheney wants to whip up support for the military budget, he has decided to bring back the cold war. No one gives a damn here (even the American Whore herself is getting free press here tonight), meanwhile the Russian and Chinese military are in full global assault mode. 10 tics ahead to midnight, people. Come on !!! How can we not be mounting a full assault on this situation. Sleep children…sleep..
June 4th, 2007 at 11:34 pmDid anyone bring up the fact that the Pnetagon asked the White House twice to attack Zarqawi’s hideout in Kurdish-controlled northern Iraq and Chimpy and the Organ GRinder turned it down each time - so that they could use him to lie to high schoolers later…

June 5th, 2007 at 12:20 amAfter 9/11, Bush promised to get al Qaeda members anywhere they were discovered.
In 2002, an al Qaeda guy in Yemen was blown up by a Predator drone aircraft’s Hellfire missile, while driving down a Yemeni road and talking on his cellphone.
U.S. intelligence knew this al Zarqawi al Qaeda guy had set up shop next to the Kurds in northern Iraq at least one year before the start of the Iraq War. Therefore, Bush and Cheney (but especially Cheney) knew that he was there, sitting in the no-fly zone in northern Iraq, with overflights occuring daily by U.S. and British fighter jets.
And they didn’t order these planes to blow al Zarqawi’s location off the map. They could have done this anytime during the twelve months or more that they knew he was there.
In other words, whyile they rounded up al Qaeda guys all over the place, Bush and Cheney (and Blair) left al Zarqawi alive and well in northern Iraq, letting him live to later organize “al Qaeda in Mesopotamia” and actually get U.S. soldiers killed (and Iraqi citizens killed) after the start of the war in 2003.
This is what one of the kids should have asked Cheney: why did you let al Zarqawi live while taking out all other al Qaeda guys that could be found? For the same reason you let Osama bin Laden escape the trap of Tora Bora in Afghanistan, allowing him to flea to Pakistan?
June 5th, 2007 at 4:52 amAttention student of Wyoming:
Do you know that Mr. Cheney has built a concentration camp in your state, adjacent to the Seminoe Reservior…it called “Swift Luck Greens”
Google it!

June 5th, 2007 at 6:49 amBoy, you know this takes the cake. And by the looks of Cheney lately, he has been taking a few cakes.
When THIS EVIL F**K starts infiltrating young minds with this garbage — I want to puke.
The EVIL UNLEASHED IN WYOMING. This should be the caption.
June 5th, 2007 at 8:01 amVery possibly the worst example of a human being I have seen in my entire life.
June 5th, 2007 at 8:51 amWhat a disgusting, lying, criminal slob.
And he’s still in office, making these appearances in front of young minds.
The fact that he’s not in prison says quite a bit about our system of justice and government.
It’s pretty obvious now, the only thing that will stop them is a **********.
Back in the Reagan days, I thought Cheney didn’t suck quite as much as most scumpublicans. Boy, was I deluded! That guy really takes the cake for the lyingest sack of shit in government.
June 5th, 2007 at 12:17 pmI wonder how can anyone who is educated actually ask this clown to speak in their school. If he has been proven a liar and he has, how does a school justify bringing a person in that they know will be spewing rhetoric and lies. How is that eduacational or for that matter beneficial to a students learning.
June 5th, 2007 at 12:30 pmNico - “Recounted the tale” of Zarqawi??? You’re treating the VP’s speech like Hans Christian Anderson…..Al Zarqawi was drawn to Iraq because THAT is where the fight is….Better he be killed there than Main St. in Topeka Kansas. I wish Dems would see that this fight is a fight for civilization…..and I’m not cheering for 7th Century Muslim “civilization” to win…..
June 5th, 2007 at 3:23 pmWTF?! Seriously. Why is this man still welcome in Wyoming?
June 5th, 2007 at 4:13 pmAnd yet again, Think Progress busts a nut about Cheney saying absolutely nothing wrong. Was Zarqawi in Iraq after we invaded Afghanistan, or not? Hm, as the Senate report indicates, he was. Did Cheney say that Zarqawi was working with Saddam? No, he did not.
Ah, I just love it when Think Progress lies about Cheney lying.
Good job again, douche bags, and good job again, blind sheep, for guzzling it all down - again.
June 5th, 2007 at 6:48 pmthe sad part is that he has told so many lies that he really doesnt know what is the truth or not. all of that texas tea has gone to his brain.
June 5th, 2007 at 6:53 pmI don’t think he is lying. I think he really believes it. To me that’s even more scary than if he had been lying.
June 5th, 2007 at 6:54 pmDon’t be too harsh on ‘ol Pokey - nor his boss Gumbey. Both really do believe what they say - they’ve got no choice now, (too invested in the whole mess at this point). But lets not focus too much on what was said by the VP. What really needs focus is the fact that the war on terrorism is horse s**t. The sad fact, I believe, is that there is NOTHING to be done but to pack up from the Middle East, stop our support of secularist middle east leaders, and go home. And get prepared for the coming religious wars of the 21st century. The lessons we should have learned are plainly laid out in the books “Imperial hubris : why the West is losing the war on terror” and “Through our enemies’ eyes : Osama bin Laden, radical Islam, and the future of America”.
June 5th, 2007 at 7:41 pm#93. Cheney’s only goals in life it appears are a) to enrich his interests in the Defense industry and b) to enrich his interests in the oil industry, tell us now that #93 is correct, and so frighteningly obvious that one really has to wonder wether we will indeed get through the next 19 months. This could be the last case of mass delusion, a fatal strike at the epicenter of world power. Someone was right earlier, the Russians are losing it, the wheels are coming off and here you’ve got Cheney (I count Chimpy out at this point - my only fear is that he starts hitting the bottle like Nixon did) counting how many speeches and corporate Chairmanships he will be offered (mmm, Oil co or Offense company - both !!). We are near a cliff. I see it as September of 1963. The Russians are making a power move, sensing a weakness in Cheney and a near riotus public revulsion. Keep the price of oil high, and we have the reverse of Reagan’s strategy to break the Soviets back. Highly dangerous times ahead people. It is the ultimate failure of this horrid period in American history, and no one is even talking about it. Classic.
June 5th, 2007 at 7:42 pmThe WMDs were found, in South Carolina.
They are being manufactured by the US at the Savannah River Site, which has been operating since the 1950s and refined tritium to go into nuclear weapons of mass destruction (WMDs). The US has more WMDs than any other country in the world. Pointing the finger at someone else and saying “you have WMDs” was rather extremely hypocritical, like a mass murderer calling a theif a criminal

June 5th, 2007 at 9:30 pmI am extremely disgusted with the liberal and general ignorance of the technical community. Bush and Cheney have both made mistakes in my opinion. However, there were quite a few reasons that the US went to war with IRAQ. None of them being that they were in connection with Al Queda. However, they had the money and the power within the middle east and it has already been found as fact that the Iraqi Intelligence Officer was in attendance at the pre 9-11 planning meetings.. that is the extent to which I would say that Iraq had any direct involvment with 9-11. But, you have to realize that Sadam did not like the US and that he would assist anyone in doing anything to hurt the reputation of the US. The world is in a much better situation now that Sadam and his Sons are dead. I am Proud to be an American and yet even more Proud to have had a chance to serve my country as an active duty soldier.
GO ARMY!
June 5th, 2007 at 9:42 pmAnother thing that I must say to all that post to this article is:
You must remember that Freedom is NOT free and American was not founded without war. DEFENSE is was keeps our country FREE. If it were not for our service members. We would most likely not be an enlish speeking free country today with the so called freedom of speed, religionm etc. that we have today. Do some real research and find out for yourself. Don’t just believe the first thing that you read or hear. Look at the situation from all sides before an opinion is formed.
June 5th, 2007 at 9:49 pmbecause under Saddam’s Iraq you could just jump the border avoid the military police and Republican guard and get free treatment with Saddam Hussein without tacit approval. Saddam had firm control of his government he knew about something like this happening. He may not have directly approved it, he may not have encouraged it, but Cheney’s comment isn’t incorrect in any reguard. The connection of al qaeda and iraq is tentative at best, but this is a fact. and that quote by Roberts is one quote, that doesn’t contradict what Cheney said. Zarqawi was in Iraq period. That’s not a lie, that is incontrovertable and Roberts doesn’t challenge that. If Saddam wanted to capture him all he had to do was call up his own hospital.
June 5th, 2007 at 10:04 pmWhat do you expect from a person who cant even raise a “straight” daughter.
June 5th, 2007 at 10:10 pmNo wonder why his daughter became a lesbian……
June 5th, 2007 at 10:13 pmI can not belive that these people are still trying to make up belive in there bull. THE COUNTRY KNOWS WHAT YOU DID TO ALL THOSE PEOPLE ON 911, AND FOR YOU PEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW, U SOON WILL. IF OUR STUPID MEDIA LETS US.
June 6th, 2007 at 1:23 amI find it interesting that you call Cheney a liar on the Iraq / Al Queda connection yet, when the Cliton administration back on Nov. 4, 1998 made the same connection in their indictment of Osama bin Laden and used it to bomb the Sudanese “Factory” it doesn’t count. The Clinton Administration stated that Iraq was working with Al Queda In regards to weapons research. Why is that not posted? It was even in the New York Times I believe in Nov. of ‘98. How soon you forget.
June 6th, 2007 at 1:48 amPoor George and his little brain probably believes” the world is a safer place now” lie. He no doubt thinks that the terrorists “will follow us home if we leave Iraq.” George, don’t get me wrong, I salute those in uniform who defend our country and I understand that you must do what you are ordered to do. And if you must believe the outrageous lies in order to justify your ordered actions, then so be it, but , you do so at the risk of intelligent people thinking you are … a moron, I am sorry George, but you sound like an idiot. If you want some respect, Just hold the position that you will do as ordered because it’s your job. You took the oath and you are bound to serving that oath. Period. No matter what reason the Govt. tells you. You are doing your duty for your country. Most people will respect you. Don’t wrap yourself up in the politics of it, cause you just sound stupid. I, thank you for your service nonetheless.
June 6th, 2007 at 2:09 amThere is an easy way to stop the war. Let all guys rasponsible for it sent their children to the war. I bealive It will finishe the war sooon.
June 6th, 2007 at 6:27 amDid anyone hear about DICK addressing the West Point graduates, he said (paraphrasing) …”You took an oath to defend the United States…” Actually the oath didn’t say anything about defending the U.S., but, they did swear to defend the constitution. There goes DICK again making things up as he slithers along. He knew better than to mention defending the constitution, for fear of being shot for wiping his ass with it.
June 6th, 2007 at 6:44 amThanks for this.
June 6th, 2007 at 6:48 amWhy shouldn’t Cheney continue to support the war and justifiy it any way that he can……He’s making money hand over fist due to his connection with Halburton..eliz1234
June 6th, 2007 at 12:40 pmOsama .. head of Al-Qaeda..
