Sacrificing Doan to save Gonzales.
Robert Novak reports that the White House is so preoccupied with saving Attorney General Alberto Gonzales that no one in the White House is helping GSA administrator Lurita “cookies on the table” Doan: “The White House has done no more to help Doan than it did for Bloch. One congressional Republican asked a senior White House aide why. The response, he said, amounted to this: This is a very tough time for us when we are preoccupied trying to save Alberto Gonzales, and Doan will just have to save herself.”

Maybe Lurita can get the recipe from Martha Stewart. Did Martha ever finish her book on fashion tips for decorating your cell? I have to say, Martha was pretty good about that. She did her time and didn’t complain. Let’s see how well the GOPers deal w/ jail time.

The Admin doesn’t care if they are viewed as incompetent, so Doan will be left holding the bag. And she credibly cannot blame anyone but herself.

Somehow I don’t think Mizz Lurita’s got it in her — homemade cookies or strength of spine.
I don’t like Martha Stewart for a lot of reasons, but I was impressed at how she did her time AND did it on her own schedule. That gal’s got stones.
