“Sen. Craig Thomas (R-WY) is listed in serious condition at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., where he is battling infection and undergoing a second round of chemotherapy for blood cancer.”
In this day and age, infections are once again very serious business. Because of antibiotic abuse and overuse, there are so many drug-resistent bacteria that are deadly. What a shame… hope the doctors find some compound to kill off the infection. May you recover, Senator.

My grandmother was a great person who never did harm to anyone and the love of her family and large group of friends were a testament to how kind, generous, and compassionate she was.
When she fell ill, there was not a peep or mention from the folks here or in any news media.
But, here we are with news of ill health for a senator that has an abysmal voting record in regards to civil rights, energy and environment, social development, and defense issues.
Am I to weep or feign concern? No. Just as none of you did so for my grandmother.
Health issues are always a matter for family and friends and really shouldn’t be discussed out of that venue. That’s just common courtesy and respect.
So, I will not weep nor wish anyone well about this. Don’t know the man or his family and will not put my nose in their business. However, in regard to my business and what Senator Thomas has done to myself and my country, I say anything that keeps him out of congress is fine with me.

I’m confused. If we’d known your grandmother was ill, we certainly would have wished her well.
Wishing Sen Thomas well takes nothing away from anyone else.
Didn’t say that TP or we TP Readers are Fox News. Just wanted to eliminate the question that may pop into some minds on “what does this mean to his seat?” The answer is nothing. We can focus on the man.
Joe, Punchy
The article indicates blood cancer, not an infection. The range of these cancers range from leukemia to marauding red cells (Remember red cells carry monoclonal DNA). Without some basics, I cannot deliver an opinion, but, with Chemo, life extension can be about three to ten years. Caught too late, the years become months or days.
Fed the Fcuk Up!,
There are people on this planet who share empathy with those who are unfortunate enough to suffer an illness. I know that my passing will barely cause a ripple in the fabric of time but that does not separate me from caring for others.
I didn’t think the point was that complex. But I’ll try to clarify.
You (in the royal sense) were unaware and unsympathetic of my grandmother’s illness and no one faults you for it, it wasn’t your business nor your concern.
The same is the case for us (royal again) in regard to Mr. Thomas. I certainly wish him no ill will but his health issues are none of our business.
Now, Senator Thomas is our business. His political history and actions are such that any non-evil that removes him from congress is a positive thing. If you agree with Senator Thomas’ record and service, then certainly wish the Senator well. If you don’t agree with the Senator, then all you are doing is wishing yourself harm.
My wishes for Senator Thomas are that he leave office and stop harming myself, my family, and my country. My wishes for Mr. Thomas are none. Don’t know the man, don’t wish him any harm.
I understand, but I believe your comment to be a bit hypocritical.
Do we now send “best wishes” daily to all the innocent Iraqis who are clinging to life by a thread due to the actions and activities of our military forces? No.
So, why is it we would want to send our “best wishes” to one of the players that has made the Iraq Genocide Project so successful, but not send “best wishes” to the victims of that project?
Not trying to bash your sensitivities, just offering some perspective.
#21 – FTFU! I would send best wishes to the Iraqis if I could. I certainly wish them well. Along with everyone else who has health issues, or lack of access to education, or insufficient food or…
I’m sorry to hear about your grandmother and I hope that you and your family come through it well. I lost my father last year (careless of me, I know) and I didn’t expect that to be covered anywhere in particular.
Still, I didn’t get upset when other people mentioned how hard life was treating them at the same time.
Fed the Fcuk Up!,
I have a long record of caring statements for everyone on all sides of this conflict.
My mother died because Ford Motor Company designed a faulty hood latch on her Lincoln. Am I taking a sledge to every Ford product on the showroom floor? Am I asking for the total annihilation of the entire Ford gene pool?
There is a space between hate and logic, I hope you find it.
I see my point has been missed entirely. I was not seeking sympathies for my grandmother, nor was I “jealous” that Mr. Thomas was receiving such sympathies.
Let’s see if I can make this even clearer:
Sending your best wishes to SENATOR THOMAS is akin to wishing Dr. Mengele a happy birthday back in 1943.
Sending your best wishes to MR. THOMAS is nice in a polite sense, but wholly irrelevant if you do not know the man or his family.
But since virtually no one here knows the MAN, then you are all sending your best wishes to the SENATOR.
Funny how a famous or known person (usually only whites) gets sick or dies and everyone stumbles over themselves to send best wishes.
But a few hundred thousand Iraqis? Fcuk ‘em.
And a few thousand US service members? Ho hum.
But I’m sure that the 40,000 or 50,000 wounded US service members are receiving daily emails and love-o-grams from so many people that they can count them on their prosthetic hand.
How easy and conveniently we offer ourselves sympathy, and excuse ourselves and our government for the murders we have perpetrated.
But we’re sensitive! Look, we even offer our sympathies to someone who advocates genocide and wipes his ass with our constitution.
I understand your passion, but please understand this is not an all or nothing situation.
Just because we wish Sen Thomas well, does not mean we do not think of all the other people who need the same. It’s simply not expressed in this forum.
Wishing harm on Sen Thomas, or anyone else, only lessens our humanity.
I say you show compassion for anyone who is sick and suffering, even if he has not lead his life righeously.
You don’t size up a person and then decide if they are worthy of compassion or not, that doesn’t seem righeous to me.
Hmmmm … which way to go here. Honesty vs faux patronizing.
His NO vote on HR 1591. Not good.
He voted to give $32.93 billion to Energy. Not good.
He took 85,000 in lobbyist contributions. Not bad .. but Not good.
Out of State contributions close to 400,00. Not good.
He served in the military. Real good.
Supporting a madman that led to the death of thousands of innocent human beings and turning a blind eye to the families of dead US soldiers. Plus Vets battling the untold cost of generations of families member afflicted by depleted uranium, with no conscience … vs … this guys leukemia?
Yeah .. it really must suck being him right now. Honesty wins!
#32 – jd,
Do not condemn the man. His values are just as valid as yours and mine. I personally disagree with them, but do not wish him ill. That would lower me to being inhuman.
The infection that he likely had has no drugs left to treat it. Bethesda Naval is seriously contaminated with Acinetobacter Baumannii that the military medical system spread nosocomially throughout the field hospitals in Iraq, Landstuhl, Walter Reed Bethesda Brook Balboa, the VA system and to community hospitals all over our country.
Senator Thomas may well be another casualty of the Iraq War.

While I might not agree with his politics I wish Senator Thomas well, and hopefully a speedy recovery.

June 4th, 2007 at 4:56 pmGood Luck Senator! Hope you pull through!!
June 4th, 2007 at 4:57 pmThat’s never good.
I don’t know his politics, but that really shouldn’t matter at times like this. He’s a fellow human being.
Hold tight, Sen.
June 4th, 2007 at 4:58 pmGet well soon, Sen Thomas.
June 4th, 2007 at 4:58 pmI wish him well and a good recovery.
June 4th, 2007 at 5:03 pmSenator Thomas,
June 4th, 2007 at 5:04 pmAll of us at TP are pulling for you. Pray, sieze the moment and get well.
Ah, geez, that’s how my father died. I wonder if it’s a bone infection.
I think that hopes for a recovery may be misplaced here.
Hope the end is peaceful.
June 4th, 2007 at 5:13 pmBlood cancer sounds bad. I hope he gets better.
June 4th, 2007 at 5:14 pmtrust me. Blood cancer is HORRIBLE. It’s the patients I deal with every day….

June 4th, 2007 at 5:24 pmWhat’s blood cancer? Huh? Leukemia? Red blood cells cannot get cancer, as they lack a nucleus.
June 4th, 2007 at 5:31 pmWe wish you a speedy and complete recovery, our prayers are with you and your family.

Wyo. Stat. § 22-18-111 (a) (i)
So more reason we can focus on wishing him well in his batter – it will have no impact on the Senate despite a Democtratic Gov in Wyoming.
