Time hires Dick Armey as new blogger.

By Nico Pitney on Jun 4th, 2007 at 2:07 pm

Time hires Dick Armey as new blogger.

Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-TX) will be a new contributor to Time magazine’s blog Swampland (to balance its cadre of liberals like Joe Klein and Jay Carney). In 2005, Armey participated on a panel listing the “Ten Most Harmful Government Programs.” Among the 10 were Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the Endangered Species Act, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

UPDATE: In 1995, Armey referred to openly gay Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA) as “Barney Fag.” “Armey maintains it was a slip of the tongue.” (HT: TP commenter OB)

The same immoral politician who once called Barney Frank “Barney Fag,” then claimed it was a “slip of the tongue”? I’ll be watching for Dickwad Armey’s posts on Swampland. Ooops… did I say “DICKWAD ARMEY”? My fingers must’ve slipped.

    “Ten Most Harmful Government Programs”
Harmful to who? These programs were designed to fit a specific need, to help people who can’t help themselves because of bad luck or poor choices, or for the welfare of the environment (i don’t like poo in my rivers!) These programs are damaging to GOP because they work so well, and people want more.

    Where’s a current copy of time ? . . . I need to wipe my ass .

We do and that is all that matters. Because the news and blogs on this site are not written for you. They are written for us di*khead. We don’t care about how you feel or your point of view. You are a traitor to this country.

hopefully, it IS a last ditch effort… this BS has gotta stop…

I’m ashamed to say DICK Armey is from my home state. In fact, during the past several years, Texas has spit out a slew of corrupt, asshole, repug politicians! Let’s see: Dubya, Turd Blossom, DICK Armey, Cheerleader Kay, John Cornyn, Tom Delay (what a doozie!), Henry Bonilla, Harriet Myers, Gonzo, and of course, our recently re-elected by-a-minority asshat, sorry excuse of a so-called governor: (p)Rick Perry. Also, let’s not forget his butt-kissing LT, David- do-nohting -Dewhurst.

    MSM is just that.
Omitting real news stories, keeping the ADHD American public full of Lohan & Hilton, making shit up, teasing you for 4 minutes on a ‘headline’ story while giving it 15 seconds of ‘real’ coverage.

    Who needs Time?

They voted me Person of the Year, & I don’t even read the rag!

  14. Marie says:

I think Time magazine has slipped a few notches in the recent years, but this is going to push them down even further.
They have no balance to their columnists, and Dick Armey will only make them more off balance.
They are fast becoming not the news magazine of their past, but another propagandist outlet for the repugs…….they have such a shortage. (snark)
When is this going to stop? When will there be fair and balanced coverage in the news media again? Is it lost forever?

Nice try, Kevin, but no one said “only liberals should blog”.

Let me see if I can explain it to you so you’ll understand: he issue is that a mainstream news organization sees fit to hire as a blogger someone who has shown the poor judgment and juvenile argumentation that Dick Armey has shown over his career.

If you mean to extend that outcry to the equivalent of “only liberals should blog”, then you’re tacitly admitting that ALL conservatives are as flawed in their judgment and juvenile in their tactics as Dick Armey. If that were the case, then you’d have a point.

WTF are you rambling about? Scroll up to your post. Read it. Realize that no one deleted your post or banned you from posting in the future. Try posting a similar message at a conservative and/or right wing and/or republican and/or what-the-F-ever they call themselves on the non-progressive (regressive?) side these days, and see if your right to “free” speech is honored.

And, while you’re here, straighten up and try not to be such a git.

Nicely put, Katy. Regressives sure have a hard time with “entitlements” until it’s a fellow Regressive whose entitlement (in this case “a job”) is threatened.

Sorry to interrupt your Regressive circle-jerk there, Mr. P, but the consultants reviewed your name-change suggestion and wanted me to tell you that it was so hilariously stupid that they probably won’t be able to get any more work done the rest of the day. They thank you.

someone who hasn’t heard that quote, AND has never

Poor little closeted, self loathing President f*g. I hate to inform you of this. While there’s no “disease” in being gay, nor a “treatment” for it – there is a treatment for “homophobia”, which is in fact a mental illness – and can be treated.

It’s also typically related to a self-loathing associated with repressed sexuality, and most commonly found in Pedophiles, and closeted gay people. Please, get treatment – because in the closet, you’re just an annoying and whiny little b!tch…

What does TIME appointing Dick Arrmey & Home Land Security have in common – FEAR. As Sen Clinton is schedule to have a debate in NH, Home Land Security tells us that JFK Airport is going to blown up with jet fuel which doesn’t burn. This is time just before the the Democratic Debate. De Ja Vu? Just as Dr Kevorkian is released from prison, the same Dick Armey at the House Comm hearings told in the future Sen Clinton 1993 that he was going to be her Dr Kevorkian on her health plan. Hilary Clinton called him on that at the committee hearings and all his peers on the committee from both side of the aisle broke out in laughter. Dick Armey turned beet red which both he & TIME should do with this weak explanation of his new job. Is his wife getting a job with TIME like she did in government when he was a Congressman?
