Young attractive women = pole dancers.

Last week on MSNBC’s Morning Joe radio talk show — which airs during the former time slot of Don Imus — host Joe Scarborough brought up former senator Fred Thompson’s wife, Jeri, who is significantly younger than Thompson. Without any evidence, Scarborough wondered whether “she works the pole.” Watch it:

I always thought “she works the pole” meant something else.

  2. Larry Flynt says:

Actually it does. These guys dont know the true meaning of it.

  3. Blue Fairy says:

Isn’t this the Joe Scarborough whose young female assistant was found dead in his Congresiional office or some such?

  4. Zooey says:

That’s disgusting! What the hell is wrong with these idiots?

BTW: Click on the link next to Jeri’s name, and scroll down to the picture of Fred & Jeri. Jeebus, the man married an infant.

You’re not supposed to date (or marry) anyone younger than your kids.

  5. lestatdelc says:

Isn’t that just the Olde English spelling for the newspeak of pol (as in poltico)…?

    ;-P

  6. Zooey says:

I think Joe should have Fred on his show and ask him if Jeri “works the pole.”

I’d be interested in Fred’s response.

Idiot. It would have been just as inappropriate to speculate if Fred worked the snatch.

  11. Zooey says:

    Comment by gummitch

Sorry, I read it wrong. I thought is said she was 25 — 4 years younger than his child.

    My bad. Pass the worms….

So now the standard of public discourse is to be a boorish pig? This is the apex of society? I would have thought a dozen years of rule by the Moral Majority would have resulting in something at least slightly higher than Porky’s.

Speaking of which, I’d pork Kucinich’s babe ahead of Fred’s.

    *snort*

Dude, I’m eating the worms, ok? Don’t make me look at that gorgeous red hair.

I don’t date men younger than my sons. I am wrong to hold anyone else to that standard, especially a man. Geez…..

  16. Tom3 says:

She’s been working Fred’s withered old pole forever but he can’t get it up,

  17. Keith says:

Maybe we’ll all be treated to another one of Thompson’s Kinky Friedman performances (gotta see Kinky’s campaign commercials with the cigars to know what I mean) where he sits in his library and tells Scar that he should go to a mental hospital

Anyone surprised one of the resident “closet case” b!tches would post this? Who’s *pole* did you work today – loser? Was it Rove, Bush or Jake today?

  22. AboveTheClouds says:

So Scarborough thinks the “last great hope” for the Republican Party is married to a “pole dancer?” Of course, all of America knows that the GOP is circling the drain along with Bush’s legacy–the failed Iraq occupation.

  23. Jay Randal says:

See the GOPers think dirty things about each other’s wives too.

  24. shane says:

Well Fred’s such a looker, who could resist?
    /sarc

But some troll said Scarborough’s a liberal now, I don’t think so. He is definitely too smarmy to be a Dem, definitely still Repuke.

  25. JTitor says:

Joe should talk. How about Lori Klausutis? What I want to know from Joe is why Lori Klausutis died in his congressional office and not such much as a peep from the press? What about when questioned about it Joe: “I asked you why you aren’t in Congress. You said that you had sex with the intern, and then you had to kill her.” Scarborough laughed and replied, “Yeah, well, what are you gonna do?”

A young female employee of one of Florida’s Congressmen had died unexpectedly in the Congressman’s office. There were no witnesses to her death and the cause of death was not apparent. Klausutis’ boss, Joe Scarborough had recently resigned from Congress prematurely and unexpectedly, amid rumors about his marital fidelity and soon after a divorce. He had also abruptly resigned as publisher of the Independent Florida Sun, claiming that resigning from Congress and as publisher was necessary to spend more time with his sons. The results of the mandated autopsy, however, were deemed “inconclusive” by Dr. Michael Berkland

Dr. Michael Berkland, it turns out, has a very interesting background himself. Recently relocated to Florida, it is a matter of public record that Dr. Berkland’s medical license in the state of Missouri was revoked in 1998 as a result of Berkland reporting false information regarding brain tissue samples in a 1996 autopsy report. Berkland does not deny the charges.
It’s also a matter of public record that he was suspended from his position as Medical Examiner in the State of Florida in July, 1999

My hears are still ringing from “since Joe is now a liberal.” WTF? Did he forget to sacrifice a goat at the last coven or what?

  27. Jay Randal says:

“She works the pole”? Scarborough has a very nasty mind, so he might be thinking she smokes Thompson’s pole, so not a stripper pole dancer.

For the record, I amended my statement to include only myself.

Try to keep up, old man.

  33. Jackson says:

Why is it that people are foolish enough to think that bigotry cannot be expressed through sexuality? If Joe denounced a homosexual or Muslim through religion would people defend his “religious” views? Of course not. Jerry Falwell tried that whole, “If you’re against my sermons of intolerance, you must be anti-God” bit.

This is the same song and dance number, but with a woman as target on the basis of gender and hysterical screams of, “You must be anti-sex to question my intolerance!” Do you honestly think that if people truly embraced sexuality that women would be demonized for it? Please. Puritanical streaks of misogyny-fueled moral hysteria are alive and well when every female sex act is a damn slur and sex is still referred to as filthy, dirty, nasty, etc..

Oh, and stop it the whole “PC police” rhetoric. If anything, it’s quite anti-PC to denounce the intolerance of women in society, especially by men (trust me).

  34. Jake says:

Anyone else NOT on the “Ignore List” want to comment on Kucinich?

  36. Jane E. Schneider says:

I’ll bet TP’s sorry they put this thread up! :-D

Can we possibly hope that Joe meant “work the polls”?

  37. Jay Randal says:

No Jane, Scarborough was referring to something sexual.

  38. smafdy says:

If anyone knows about working the pole, it’s Scarborough.

  39. justice says:

Was it investigated? Im sure her family is devastated. If you fall because you faint, you do not have fractures like this woman did. Does anyone know if the police investigated it?

Sorry, Jay, I was making a feeble attempt to take the high road. Unusual for me, I know.

  41. frank says:

Honestly.. you should all withhold judgement until you hear the entire clip. Scarborough just got done talking to the traffic woman, who was talking about using pole dancing as a work out.. and that “working the pole” is what kept her in such good shape. Don’t go off the edge until you know the full story.

  42. gorn by any other name says:

  43. JPark says:

Hey, I am all for pole dancers. I am looking for a nice, liberal, intelligent, funny pole dancer!! I am not asking for too much am I? :)

  44. Ben Dover says:

Why is this newsworthy? How many American kids died in Iraqnam today? How much did the federal budget deficit increase today? What is the Bush Administration doing about the increase in crime over the last two years? Everyone but the Republic Party trolls was upset a week ago when CNN announced it was hiring someone to cover “news” like Brittney Spears, Paris Hilton and Michael Jackson. By putting this garbage about Joe Scarborough on your page, TP is no different than the new segment on CNN.

  45. Chris says:

My hears are still ringing from “since Joe is now a liberal.” WTF? Did he forget to sacrifice a goat at the last coven or what

If you saw the way he kissed Ms Bill Clinton’s ass you would know he is a liberal.

    Yes.

I see a big difference from a decade or so ago, when women enjoyed some measure of respect. People did not openly, outright degrade women in public. But it’s come to this. Slowly. First we were no longer seen as women in the media – we became girls. And from girls we became “girls gone wild” party girls. Then we were seen as whores. And not even an 80’s era “heart of gold” whore, but a dirty, cheap, stupid whore.

It’s such an easy jump from dissing rich kids like Paris, opening calling them whores and making jokes about sex acts on late night tv, to ALL women in america being dirty little seducers.

Joe asking if she works the pole is like asking on air if she swallows. It’s locker room talk, and when it’s said in the open, it carries a new dangerous message. The message is that women are to be used, and NO ONE but your own mother needs to be respected.

I used to think they were trying to turn back the clock to 1950, but it’s not that. They’re trying to make us dirty and powerless enough to deserve wearing burkas. We’re to be a non-entity in america.

    This has got to stop.

And I don’t think it’s going to stop until we all hit rock bottom.

  48. Andrew says:

    I agree with #44.

Also, “working the pole” is a bit different than “dancing on a pole.”
    Hint: pole = penis

  49. Parrotlover77 says:

Two words about that time slot: Stephanie Miller

  50. Parrotlover77 says:

They’re trying to make us dirty and powerless enough to deserve wearing burkas. We’re to be a non-entity in america.

Isn’t that one of the supposed goals of the “islamofascists?”

Which begs the question. Who is it REALLY that “hates our freedoms?”

  51. RickyScorpio says:

The New Republic’s Chris Orr says (LINK) that “before the comment, Scarborough had been talking to Tracy Burgess, the WFAN news anchor and, evidently, a bit of a fitness freak. (She apparently also used to appear as a guest on Imus.) Burgess explained that ‘I am taking vertical pole…. It’s a pole and you exercise on it.’ There was a little minimally risque banter on the subject before Scarborough declared, ‘Housewives across America taking to the pole… for health and fitness. Hey, have you seen Fred Thompson’s wife?… You think she works the pole?’”
