Scandal-Plagued Doolittle Quietly Votes To Protect Ethically-Challenged House Members

Yesterday, the House passed a resolution referring Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA) “to the ethics committee, demanding that the panel report back on whether his expulsion is merited.” The motion, introduced by Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH), was overwhelmingly supported by members of both parties. Only 26 members voted against it.

One of the dissenters is especially conspicuous, as he may one day face a similar predicament to Jefferson: Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA).

Doolittle is currently the subject of a federal investigation over his ties to corrupt lobbyist Jack Abramoff. In April, the FBI raided his Northern Virginia home, after which Doolittle threw his wife Julia under the bus, claiming she was the target of the search. Since then, however, he and his wife have set up separate legal defense funds.

UPDATE: Doolittle attempts to explain his vote here.

  2. Tom3 says:

Jeez, that porker is his wife?

And he threw her under the bus?

I bet it broke an axle.

You know, for us Liberals and Democrats always claiming that we support our troops, I have seen no where in any left wing blog any type of tribute to our brave soldiers for June 6, 1944.

    D-Day invasion of Europe.

So much for us supporting our troops, eh?

all talk and no muscle behind our cheap talk.

  9. Zooey says:

It’s probably a good idea to investigate all of those voting Nay on this.

    Just sayin’

    # 8 PeeCee: Off-topic much?

On-topic: I wonder how much of a fuss the right wing will kick up when Doolittle gets indicted?

Oh, that’s right — I forgot: when a Democrat gets indicted, it’s justice following its course. When a Republican gets indicted, it’s a partisan witch hunt. Do I have that about right?

How about dedicating a whole thread to the great men from Britain, America and Canada that were part of D-Day.

How about dedicating a whole thread to the Allied men that died in the Normandy beaches?

Once again, we talk a good game when we claim to support our troops, but our actions always show otherwise.

How about you, which branch of the armed forces did you serve?

you got it wrong my son,

it is….when Democrat gets indicited, it’s a partisan witch hunt. When a Republican gets indicted, it’s justtice following its course.

if you re-type the above, you will have it right.

c’mon kid, I am the greatest and smartest President ever, I am right and you are wrong.

We Democrats never break the law, it is those nasty Republicans, ok?

Well done PeeCee, you’ve accurately captured the essence of your Republican “Support the Troops” mentality. Congratulations. It’s not often we see honesty from trolls.

  25. Bluedog49 says:

Once and for all, if TP will not purge this piece of sh*t who calls himself Clinton, can we at least not respond to him. He vomits out crap every day here and today, he’s not even attempting in his pathetic way to be on topic. I’ve had posts eliminated for being off topic, even though they made sense. This inbred, home-schooled excuse for a human being doesn’t even attempt to make sense.

  33. JosephW says:

To the troll masquerading as President Clinton:

You should be aware that just 3 years ago, there were scores of threads commemorating the 60th Anniversary of D-Day. This year is the 63rd Anniversary. Do you see many birthday cards or wedding anniversary cards that make any special deal of #63?
TRIBUTES are normally reserved for MAJOR anniversaries.
But, even more importantly, I’d like to know how a dedication to the DEAD IN NORMANDY shows any type of “support” for “our troops” fighting TODAY in Iraq and Afghanistan. In my opinion, it does just the opposite, by honoring people who DIED in an era when their fellow countrymen were making personal sacrifices on the homefront while the current troops are fighting for a government which asks NOTHING of its people (and even less of its obscenely wealthy) in the “homeland”.

  34. Tom3 says:

And another Repuke troll tries to say the Dems were against ethics.

    Another Repuke lie.

Scroll up, troll. Try READING the story.

It says the bill was “was overwhelmingly supported by members of both parties. Only 26 members voted against it.”

    Dumba$s!!

you are the perfect sheep that my party goes after.

thank you, thank you, a million thanks.

  42. President Clinton says:

Scandal-Plagued Doolittle Quietly Votes To Protect Ethically-Challenged House Members

    headline of this thread…

yet, my toolish blog doesn’t talk about the fact that more Democrats voted against this than Republicans. hmmmm…..yes, they took lessons from me well.

    I love it!

  43. Bluedog49 says:

Funny, I don’t remember any repubs calling for the expulsion of Bob Ney even after he was convicted, mush less indicted. And, I don’t remember a big, spalshy press conference on Ney or Delay either.

I’m still waiting for any republican to explain his or her support for the way repubs tirelessly worked to maintain a system of forced prostitution and forced abortions in the Northern Marianas.

Oh, Bill-wannabe, don’t be so modest. You received a prestigious Rhodes Scholarship, which got you into Oxford. I would have done the same if I had been a good enough student, but, of course, I was far from that. Also, I used my Daddy’s connections to jump ahead of hundreds on the Texas National Guard waiting list. But even the “champagne unit” of the National Guard was too much for me, and I went AWOL for a long time. Of course, again I had the connections to get away with it.

  46. Democratic Sycamore says:

Yeah, #20, who else is NOT surprised that Young didn’t support this. There’s a little investigation going on in AK right now that ain’t gonna be so pretty for the Republican Party.

  47. rational says:

Why don’t you people question the ethics of the world savior
Al Gore’s ethical compass requiring him to lie to the country
using the US government as his platform? Of course I’m
speaking of the impending doom of global warming.
Where do you think all the money from his concert series
and carbon points will really go?
