Griffin blames NPR for global warming controversy.

“All I can really do is apologize to all you guys…I feel badly that I caused this amount of controversy over something like this,” said NASA administrator Michael Griffin, who recently told NPR that he doesn’t believe global warming is a “problem.” He went on to blame NPR, adding, “Doing media interviews is an art. Their goal is usually to generate controversy because it sells interviews and papers and my goal is usually to avoid controversy.”

  1. Tom3 says:

Yet another crooked, lying, spinning Repuke.

Griffin is also shutting down the satellite program that monitors global warming.

And NASA has a history of editing and censoring global warming reports to minimize the threat.

  2. Perry Logan says:

He feels badly. He talks badly.

“my goal is usually to avoid controversy… while doing what I’m told by my masters… ooops, did I say that last part out loud?”

    NPR = Globalist Agenda

7 out of every 10 stories is about trying to convert Americans into global citizens in preparation for one world government.

  5. Zooey says:

    Another whiner.

The media is using my own words, in context! Waaaaahhh!!

  10. badger says:

NPR exploited him to sell interviews? How on Earth does NPR “sell” an interview? This guy has 5 pHd’s and he doesn’t understand the concept of public broadcasting.

Also, take a look at the MSNBC story this is based on: They have a tease for their discussion section saying “Did Griffin have a point?”.

  11. Eric says:

NASA has proven global warming cannot be controlled or changed by humans. Mars and Jupiter are experiencing the same fluxations in temperatures due to solar activity. Majority of this is hot air from Al Gore. I watched his movie and was laughing so hard at the spin that I asked Blockbuster to put it under the Comedy section – and they obliged. What is the socialist agenda behind the theory that man is causing global warming and has control over it? Follow the money……it’s going in Al Gore’s pocket.

Griffin was talking about what happened in the media AFTER the NPR interview.

Wow, did you stay up all night writing that line? Did it take a team of experts? Or do you pay good money for this material? Truth, truth… did Dennis Miller write that for you?

  15. spit take says:

Ah, yes. Another fine example of the Republican tradition of accepting -er, assigning blame.

I was always taught that a man takes repsonsibility for his actions. Republicans must be taught that a man takes responsibility for finding someone to blame for his actions when they don’t turn out so well.

    Pathetic.

  16. powkat says:

It was NPR, not Fox. And Jonny – your precious Bushies are globalists – they want their global corporations to make them lots of money, and they will invade and occupy any country on the planet (globe) to make that happen.

  17. Unholy Moses says:

Um … last I checked, NPR doesn’t need to sell anything since they’re not run by advertisers.

And what the hell ever happened to that “personal responsibility” the right always whined about during the ’90s?

  18. Badmoodman says:

    Twit and a half.

“Their goal is usually to generate controversy because it sells interviews and papers and my goal is usually to avoid controversy.”

He does realize that NPR is a non-profit media channel, right?

Wait a minute, are Republicans even able to conceive of this concept?

  20. Toliver says:

    republic of stupid,

  21. Toliver says:

    War4Sale,

He’s talking about the media hype outside of and after the NPR interview. This is not difficult to grasp.

  22. margaret says:

Toliver – how do you know that?

    the quote from Mr. Griffin:

“Doing media interviews is an art. Their goal is usually to generate controversy because it sells interviews and papers”

Sounds like he’s referring to the interview to me.

  23. Ben B says:

No no, their goal isn’t to generate controversy. Their goal is to expose stuff you do that generates controversy. It’s you, douchbag…

  24. Toliver says:

    Common sense margaret.

The media explosion following the interview is what he’s talking about. Had the press ignored the interview we wouldn’t be talking about this now.

Do you doubt that the media generates controversies for ratings/circulation?

  25. Toliver says:

Feeling a little unhinged today Ben?

  26. Namtillaku says:

Hopefully that scientist who excoriated Griffin last week on his statements to NPR will chime in again.

  27. margaret says:

I think you’re reading things into Griffin’s quotes Toliver. I heard that interview and talked about it with people before it even appeared on TP.

    How’s Paris doing in jail? Wait a minute – I don’t care!

  28. Namtillaku says:

The media explosion following the interview is what he’s talking about. Had the press ignored the interview we wouldn’t be talking about this now.

We SHOULD be talking about this, Griffin is dead wrong on climate change – his own scientists tearing him a new one over his comments. Then this superstitionist tries to deflect criticism onto the organization that interviewed him? Indefensible.

  29. spit take says:

    Re #23:

Ever notice how, when right-wingers are bereft of logical arguments, they always fall back on “common sense”? Then they explain how this “common sense” actually clearly shows that black is obviously white?

    Fascinating.

  30. Ben B says:

    Toliver,

It is true that it is in the interest of the media to have controversy. But to dismiss all controversy because of that is not rational. There is real controversy out there (like the head of NASA changing the mission statement so it doesn’t say to understand and protect our home planet then say it’s not his job to protect the planet) and there are fake controversies out there (who gets Anna Nicole Smith’s baby).

Judge the controversy on its merits. This one has merits, as it again exposes a pattern of ignoring the global warming problem or deferring the problem (although he debates that it is indeed a problem) elsewhere.

Somebody’s got to do something about global warming, and that’s not happening. Start buying stock in companies that construct sea walls and hope it will earn you enough money to buy food once the idea farming locations move from the US to Canada and we’re stuck with a lot less rainfall….

  31. Dr. S says:

    Sells interviews?

  32. Toliver says:

I have to remind some of common sense because many are bereft of it.

The man obviously know that NPR isn’t a commercial enterprise. The media hype AFTER the interview is why we’re talking about this.

He said that it isn’t the job of NASA to fight [the theory of] AGW. He’s correct there. He also said that we don’t know what the “optimal climate” is. That’s a reasonable opinion IMO.

It’s sad that too many people try to find a reason to hate their political rivals from just about every article they read in the paper. I understand some websites are even devoted to it.

Mellow out a little and enjoy life I say.

  33. Toliver says:

    Ben Keskin,

There’s quite a bit of speculation in your post [#29].

  34. Shawn Fassett says:

This was from the AP story – NASA administrator Michael Griffin said in the closed-door meeting Monday at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena that “unfortunately, this is an issue which has become far more political than technical…”

Talk about missing the point. “more political than technical” ???

  35. Toliver says:

Yes, much of the hysteria surrounding climate change is political.

  36. spit take says:

#33 Oh Confused One, please point out the “speculation” in post 29?

All I see is “observation”. Not the same thing as “speculation” at all. Maybe you should brush up on your vocab?

    So?

  38. Marq says:

this whole administration can not take responcability for its actions. NONE OF THEM

It was the media’s fault Paul W had to leave
Runny said it was the troops fault Iraq is going so bad
Alberto blames congress for his mistakes

Now we are going to blame the person asking the questions for the response. New Bush Logic – It is not the person who threw the punch that is at fault, it is the dude that got in the way…

  39. wags says:

Oh yeah, NPR is all about sensationalist muckraking. Always have been.

    /sark

  40. Katie says:

Their goal is to “generate controversy” by reporting exactly what someone says. Griffin would have liked NPR to somehow edit the program so that it didn’t make Griffin sound like such an idiot.

Well, Mr. Griffin, if you say the words, you own the words. So, stop whining. Perhaps you should never do another interview.

Pretty much. If you don’t portray all other countries (except Israel) as ooga-booga-disease-ridden, terrorist-harboring, freedom-hating, islamocommunofascist kakistocracies just waiting for the USA to invade, liberate, and convert to Christianity, you are a globalist.

  43. Hollis says:

Sell interviews! And they let this man spend taxpayer money? He steppped in it and expects us to believe he was pushed. Argh!

  44. Toliver says:

    spit take,

I goofed, as it was post #30 I was thinking of when I posted the word “speculative”.

  45. buckles says:

It’s the media’s fault (again). Gosh, how original.

Let me get this straight… the Repubs accuse Dems and liberals of not having the cajones to fight terrorists (which isn’t even true), but on the rare occassion these guys expose their ego for a second of honesty, then get called on it, they proceed to run into the corner while pointing fingers at everyone else. *sigh* What a bunch of…

  46. spit take says:

    Toliver, correction noted.

  47. bezelt says:

You truly need to espouse the traditional Republican (Bush team) knowledge-base if you work for the United States government but under the Bush team.

And it still is a mystery how much weather knowledge the Bush team possesses. But if the Bush team can “stare down” Congress. It can likely “stare down” all the world’s weather scientist.

Even if the Bush team is wrong about its weather ideas, so what? Just add another train wreck to the Bush team’s collection of train wrecks. And they are many.

  48. War4Sale says:

    Okay, Toliver.

So your suggestion would seem to be that NPR not report Michael Griffin’s quotes that might prove to be politically embarrassing to Michael Griffin?

  49. theswan says:

Another of the “culture if lies”. Only a fool would believe his explanation.

Look for this tag line to become the GOP enablers next argument for doing nothing.

Gee whiz, our life is the result of an “Intelligent Design”, so who are we to meddle as seas rise, deserts form, water becomes scarce and millions die.

  51. Joseph Raglione says:

    Gentle People:

For those of you who may still doubt the existence of global warming, simply go to Google and search out Glacier melt. Sweden and Switzerland have been documenting Glacier melt for over one hundred years. They have documentation and pictures to prove the rate of melt. Go see for yourselves. Unless the Glaciers freeze up again within the next twenty four hours, the evidence cannot be disproved.
I have been on the World Wide Web for over twenty years and I have read a great many science based information newsletters documenting the progress of global warming. It has gained in momentum during the last twenty years and in my personal opinion, if we don’t stop this runaway train within the next ten years, human Life on Earth will suffer terrible damage!
    Signed: Joseph Raglione
Executive director: The World Humanitarian Peace and Ecology Movement.
P.S. After one hundred years, Greenland recently discovered a new Island off it’s coast. ..once the ICE MELTED proving it was in actual fact, an Island.

  52. Joe R. in Texas says:

I simply do not know where to start…so I will just relate that “Shrub” is an embarrasment to the state of Texas. His appointees to various positions are criminal in nature, and . . . . no need to continue rambling; that being said, however, what do the ethical breaches, of the appointed officials say about the paradigm shift of our culture.
